Somehow something got lost.
i-spookie18 December 2019
Somehow womanhood got viewed by manhood. A love story, sure, but all in the limits of how men thinks women loves. Fiers. like them, without thinking, like them. Lesbian love can be both of that, but different. This film did not catch that. But, ok, I enjoyed it ;))

Confusingly bad

Warning: Spoilers
The story is about two women (one married, one gonna-be married), who fell in love. They got caught, fights here and there, happy ending. I love lesbian movies, I've seen a lot of them, and probably I'm biased, but I liked most of them, and I wanted to love this movie too.

This could have been a good movie, even a great one. But it isn't.

The whole film is just scattered. No story-building, no motivation. I somehow understand why Marie fell in love with Ayla (Marie seems reserved, and attracted to the free-spirited woman), but Ayla motivation is unknown. We didn't see them TALKING to each other. Okay, they had sex, but love (especially life-turning love) requires a little more than that. There was no character-building, I didn't feel any connection with the women (or any other character fot that matter).

The music was just simply bad. The string plucking was very irritating, and didn't fit for the whole story.

The actors/actresses were not THAT bad. Especially Ina Weisse, her Marie was the most developed character in the whole movie, and Ina delivered it beautifully. Kudos. I cannot decide if Erika Marozsán was good or not. Her Ayla was very annoying for me, and if it was the point, Marozsán did a good job. The others: Meh.

The chemistry was good between the main characters, but without the plot, it was just some random sex scenes.

3 points for Ina Weisse and the chemistry.

Breathtaking love story!!!

This was the best love story between two women I have ever seen. The romance, erotic chemistry between Marie and Ayla was just mesmerizing in every way. I am so very happy their love for each other conquered all that they had been through. What an absolutely sweet wonderful ending or I should say beginning with the airport scene in each others arms. I would love to see a part two of this beautiful love story, where Marie and Ayla finally move into their snail shell shaped house and live happily ever after. BRAVO!!!!

A bland version of Carol
Horst_In_Translation15 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"Ich will dich" (pretty baity and equally abd title to be honest) or "I Want You" is a German television movie from 2014, so this one has its 3rd anniversary this year. It was directed by Rainer Kaufmann and written by Kathrin Richter (has worked with Kaufmann several times before) and Jürgen Schlagenhof, also an experienced writer. Like most German television films, it runs for 1.5 hours exactly pretty much. This is the story of a married woman with children who discovers that she is actually a lesbian, or at least bisexual, when she meets the fiancée of her husband's buddy. So you see it is actually the story of two women and the problem here is they were/are both in heterosexual relationships, married or about to marry, so they really have to deliver in terms of story-telling to make up for this not exactly realistic plot idea. Two women falling in love despite actually going for men previously? That's right. It sounds a bit like the story of the Oscar-nominated "Carol". Admittedly, you have to say in this film's favor here that it was released before "Carol" and not just made because of the big success of the American movie. Anyway, lead actress Ina Weisse sure looks pretty similar physically and in terms of acting to Blanchett.

Now about the story here, there were occasionally okay moments, but overall I just wasn't convinced. The film dragged quite a bit and I felt on several occasions that there were scenes that added almost nothing to the film. The movies was probably at its best right after the two women spoke to their men and Noethen (probably the most known cast member) really shines there and is probably also the MVP of the film. But it gets worse very quickly afterward again when the film turns to generic drama with the apparent split-up, right after they told their husbands and the character of Marozsán randomly decides that it's still not what she wants. This was drama for the sake of it and same can be said about the forced happy ending. They just included one significant plot twist scene after the other and completely forgot to elaborate on it convincingly. Admittedly the movie sucked quite a bit before that already, especially in the first hour. The character presentations are not bad, but the action just isn't enough for anything over one hour and then they rush it all in towards the end. The negative certainly outweighs the positive here and I give this film a thumbs-down. Not recommended.

Blown-away by unexpected love
vivaldi-bgd10 May 2015
I was taken by this film :) especially by Ina Weisse whose acting was flawless. On-screen chemistry between the two ladies was very convincing. Despite fast and furious falling in love, it was not built properly from the beginning. We should have seen some sparks between Ayla and Marie right at their first meeting. Later on, the storyline did not give them more time to build their relationship. There are gaps which could have easily been filled with more details. Everything happened too quickly when in fact should have unraveled more slowly. Ayla's character was not developed sufficiently to express how much she fell for Marie. We should have seen more of Ayla's fears, thoughts, wishes and doubts. And Marie, she was simply blown-away by this unexpected love.
