So bad, yet I still waned to keep watching...
SenorLengua21 August 2015
What a bad movie. Bad plot, bad script, bad directing, bad acting, bad editing…just bad. Except for Daryl Hannah.

But this movie is one of those movies that is bad, but good. This is one of those movies that can't be taken seriously, yet is interesting enough keep watching. It has all the clichéd moments and plot lines, yet is just far enough away from cliché to be worth watching. There is no nudity, the bathing scene is, in context of other movies of the genre, humorous rather than sexy. There were a couple of moments of Commando, but then Vinnie Jones reappeared on screen and I couldn't take the movie that seriously (and I tend to have a fondness for Vinnie Jones movies for some reason).

Overall, this is one of those movies where details are almost completely unimportant, and evidenced by my texting throughout, and not feeling like I missed anything. Of course, as a fan of the Lost series, I did see a few similarities. And like that show, there were a few major story questions that went unanswered. But they did not take away from the overall entertainment. And as previously mentioned, the entertainment was provided by the just-off-cliché moments and plot twists (though one was clichéd).

This is one of those movies that could be a hidden b-movie extravaganza. It has the cast, and the heroine, Natalie Burn, appears to be on the rise. If you really have nothing better to watch on a Saturday afternoon, this is the movie. But really, wait until Ms. Burn becomes well known to watch it.

(btw - the rating I gave is for execution of apparent intent. Compared to much more serious-intent movies, and this is more of a 3 star.)

Awaken is by no means a bad movie
tarbosh220008 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A woman named Billie Kope (Burn) wakes up on a tropical island and has no memory of how she got there. She eventually meets other people held captive in this mysterious place, including Quentin (Davi), Berto (Furlong), and Stitch (Crawford), among others. While Billie relies on her combat training - by her father, played by Benny The Jet - to stay alive, she does remember she's searching for her missing sister. Unfortunately, the island dwellers are at the mercy of Rich (London), and his goons such as Sarge (Jones) and Xander (Pare) - who are holding them there so they can harvest their organs. When an important client, a woman inexplicably named Mao (Hannah), shows up with her ailing daughter, Rich tells the island doctor, Walsh (Keith) to snap into action. However, by this time Billie and her compatriots are fighting mad and are intending to get off the island by using lethal force against their captors. Much like Gilligan's Island and/or The Prisoner, will our heroes get off the island? Awaken is sort of a modern-day DTV cross between Avenging Force (1986), The Condemned (2007), and Death Ring (1992). We're glad movies like this are still being made, but it seems the only place for them to go are cable channels (some might describe them as "deep cable" channels) such as Showtime Extreme. The solid B-Movie cast goes a long way towards sustaining its entertainment value, and main star Natalie Burn certainly has the potential to go far, in our opinion. Not only did she star in the movie, she has co-story, co-producer, and stunt credits, and even is solely credited with casting. So I guess we have her to thank for getting all these familiar faces together. She even sings the end titles song, "Awaken", and is/was a ballerina, just like Assassins Run's Sofya Skya. Is this becoming the new trend in DTV action? Hopefully Skya and Burn will be co-stars in a movie together soon. They could be ex-ballerinas/cops who bust a lot of heads and fight their way up a drug ring to the evil mastermind. If anyone reading this produces these types of movies, give us a call.  There are also some similarities to Gina Carano's In the Blood (2014) - and even the recent Van Damme movie Pound of Flesh (2015). Maybe it's not just ballerinas turned action stars that are the new trend, evidently organ donation is hot now too. Thankfully, Awaken combines the two. While the movie as a whole looks good, and you can see Burn's fights well, there are some poor editing choices which mar the overall pretty cinematography. These are especially evident when someone gets tasered, the scene with the shark attack, and the Michael Pare-Vinnie Jones fight. Sadly, not only was the latter edited badly, but it should have gone on longer and been more built up in the movie. That's the match-up we've been waiting for, and it's over in a flash.

Fan favorite Robert Davi wears a John Travolta/Nicholas Cage-style wig, Daz Crawford is likable, and Vinnie Jones is his usual head-butting self that we all love and enjoy. Pare isn't in it all that much, nor is Edward Furlong, who...let's just say it's a good thing that people stranded on the island are supposed to look disheveled and tired. Daryl Hannah, fresh off of Death Squad (2014) adds...something, but we're not sure what. It looks like she's finally joined the ranks of us lowly DTV dwellers. But I blame Hollywood for that. Because Hollywood sucks and seemingly only releases remakes, sequels, and superhero movies, there's no place for actresses like Hannah there anymore. And if Hannah's not going to the theater any longer, Furlong et al. certainly aren't either. But they'll always have a home in DTV - surely they can give Natalie Burn a call anytime.

It all ends with a very, very silly shootout, just as the audience's patience is wearing thin. Awaken is by no means a bad movie, but it ultimately fails to capitalize on all the assets it had at its disposal. We're hoping Burn goes up to the next level for her next outing.

Actually rather pointless...
paul_haakonsen13 June 2017
Granted "A Perfect Vacation" (aka "Awaken") had scored relatively low here on IMDb and given the ensemble of cast that starred in this movie, I just wasn't sure whether or not I would sit down to watch it. I ended up doing so, solely because it had Daryl Hannah listed on the cast list.

The movie starts out well enough, although the storyline didn't really make all that much sense in terms of being realistic or particularly entertaining. The storyline in "A Perfect Vacation" was weak and vague, and most often seemed like a muddy mess of random ideas thrown out there and put into a not particularly coherent order.

The setting of the movie was quite good, with the jungle and the Island. So there were some nice enough visuals throughout the movie, although this was hardly enough to make up for the many shortcomings of the movie.

There are some familiar names on the cast list, including Edward Furlong, Vinnie Jones, Christa Campbell and Jason London, although these are hardly talents that I am overly impressed with much less fan of these people. Alongside these were Daryl Hannah, Robert Davi and also David Keith, the two selling points for the movie in my opinion.

25 minutes into the movie and I already found my interest in the movie quickly waning and my attention span started to drift elsewhere. But still I decided to stick with the movie and see how it would turn out.

The movie is very predictable, and of course sharks would show up once people were getting off the Island to escape the horrible ordeal that takes place on the Island.

The characters in the movie were adequate, although there was not much of any character development going on. But the characters have enough details and personalities to keep remaining interesting enough to bear witness to as the movie trotted on in a very monotone pace.

"A Perfect Vacation" was just barely entertaining enough for a single viewing, but trust me, it was a hard pressed one. More than once was I tempted to get up and find something else to watch. Should you make it through the entire movie the first time, chances of you returning to it a second time is as likely as snow on the sun.

Chronically stupid and in dire need of brain transplant
quincytheodore17 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Five minutes into the movie, there's a random girl who falls three feet into the ground and breaks her neck. Then Vinnie Jones calls out how silly it is while the girl is literally looking like she's been run over by a truck. At this point you know Awaken doesn't play by any boundary of normal logic, nearly everything about it is either badly written or simply so bizarre, it becomes a legit comedy.

Story follows a group of people stranded on an island like they are in poorly made survival reality show. Eventually they realize that there is an organization that harvests their organs. Now this premise already presents a dilemma in first act. These are supposedly rare individuals, and yet they are tossed into a random island rather than a simple jail.

The mafia gets mad if these people are hurt or try to escape, even though those are the most possible outcomes. There's even a debate to select victim by their chi, since positive outlook on life fundamentally affects the organ. In one occasion a guy engages in gunfight, runs out of bullet, then decides to sprint across the yard and reload in front of the other guy's face.

These are just few of the oddities. If that doesn't deter you, the acting will. Main female lead is looking like she's auditioning for America Next Top Model. She almost exclusively wears one icy expression. It's unsure if she's mad or sad, but damn does she look sternly stoic and ready for camera.

None of the acting or writing is remotely believable. Other characters just seem shoehorned for the most awkward effect. The editing is choppy and creates unintentionally funny scenes, not that the pace is structured in the first place anyway.

I could have listed the plot holes, and the space for reviews wouldn't be enough. If anything, Awaken is so silly, it may just work as an ironic comedy.

What were they thinking?
ngram-0428525 September 2015
I often wonder what motivates someone to make a movie that is this awful. It can't be money because I can't, in my wildest dreams, envision this straight to video travesty earning enough to even pay the extras salaries let alone the former A-list actors turned C-list losers. Everything about this waste of film is bad. The camera work looks likes it was done by a tweaker with ADHD, he skips from face to face with no rhyme or reason. The fight choreography was obviously done by someone who has never been in an actual fight. And the acting, if you can call it that, is only surpassed in its hideousness by the direction, which reminds me of something from one of those 60's biker exploitation movies. Hannah and Furlong should quit while they are behind. I mean, I still had somewhat fond memories of previous films they played in, like Splash and Detroit Rock City, but those memories are forever tainted by the 90 minutes of stupidity that was Awaken. Pare and Davi have always been second rate actors and this movie confirmed that they have now joined the ranks of 3rd rate actors like Natalie Burn, who by the way, should be deported back to Ukraine before she attempts to act again. Vinnie Jones was the only reason I watched it as long as I did, but even he couldn't save Awaken from being the worst film of the new century.

A clearly lobotomized cast, crew and writer
Smithius12018 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This charade starts with strangers waking up on a beach with no recollection of how they arrived and goes rapidly downhill but never recovers. It is a very basic story of bad guys stealing human organs from unwilling donors for the rich.

The acting (and I use the term very loosely) is awful throughout.

The supposed heroin is a skinny armed woman who would likely struggle to knock over a hat stand let alone out-muscle trained mercenaries twice her size and strength, her leadership is unbelievable over the weakly portrayed men of her little group and her tacky saluting of a dead comrade is the icing on the cake of her over-baked character.

The mercenaries are idiots with poor training and absolutely no field craft skills or common sense plus the fight scenes with Vinnie Jones are absolutely terrible and unrealistic.

The bad guy is pathetic and weak as he fails to control even the goonish mercenaries whilst his sidekick (the heroin's sister) could have been played by any spoilt, bitch faced teen.

The double agent in the field portrayed by Robert Davi, a former bond villain (a massive fall from grace) was predictable and tacky but the so-called "SAS" soldier was an insult to the British Army cadets under 6s group, never mind the real SAS. He was unconvincing, weak and pathetic in all aspects from the uniform (which SAS wouldn't be wearing) to the body language and onto the horrendous dialogue.

The crescendo for the bad cast and acting was the introduction of Daryl Hannah as a villainess. She was just, well... awful.

One and a half hours of life wasted watching this tripe.

Garbage
cumpeled3 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Luckily I was able to catch this one on cable, for free. I can not imagine having to have paid for this garbage and waste of reel and time. wow.. some 'once upon a time actors' like Daryl Hannah and Ed Furlong have really been desperate for work lately. Both seem to be grasping for any part the can secure. Second movie recently where you see Daryl Hannah play an overweight psychopath (poorly). Yet another movie where the main character (Billie) who was 'home trained' by her dad how to fight, manages to take out high ranking, special forces trained, killing machine military boys with just her fists and kicks that daddy taught her. Right. Pathetically unrealistic. Should have been an animated cartoon, not a movie. Place it at the bottom of your 'to watch' list, because that is where it belongs.

Just awful
blackwell418 December 2015
I can't believe that inattention to common sense detail. Really awful direction. Very poorly crafted fight scenes. Awful tactics. Fingers inside trigger guards. Movements around corners like sleep walkers. Stupid stupid action. Could this movie really make money?

How could people stranded on an island have such good hair? How was it possible that a guy on the island head was perfectly shaved every day for weeks? What is up with those pants on the protagonist ? Are we supposed to believe the pants just got ripped that way? And why was she wearing dog tags? She was never in the military?

HIRE ME!

I would provide the REAL LIFE direction to make this thing believable.

Dear sweet Jesus, please please please, no one ever hire this director or writer again!

Decent concept, terrible execution. 2/10
leonblackwood22 April 2016
Review: I must admit, I was expecting this movie to be worse than it was, mainly because it's a low budget Vinnie Jones film but I did stick with it until the end because I was intrigued with the storyline. Don't get me wrong, it isn't anything amazing and I doubt that I would watch it again but it still had a couple of decent action scenes and the wilderness backdrop wasn't too bad. Its about a group of people who wake up in the middle of Island, being chased by some mercenaries, led by Vinnie Jones (Sarge). There main goal is to harvest organs and sell them to an exclusive group of rich people, so when Mao (Daryl Hannah) finds out that her child is dying and needs organs to survive, she turns to Rich (Jason London), who is in charge of the organ harvesting group. When the perfect organs become available for Mao's daughter, the surgeon goes ahead with the operation, which fails and kills her. Meanwhile, Billie Kope (Natalie Burn) and two of the stranded individuals, fight to escape the island and come toe to toe with Rich's henchmen. Billie then finds out that her sister, has been working for Rich and they rekindle there relationship and try to escape together. It sounds quite interesting but it's cheaply made with some dodgy actors. The overall concept wasn't too bad but the script was awful and there wasn't any depth to the characters. Anyway, the movie isn't that great but I have definitely seen worse, with Vinnie Jones in the cast. Passable!

Round-Up: This movie was written and directed by Mark Atkins, who is known for making movies that go straight to DVD, like Evil Eyes, Knight of the Dead, Android Cop and Road Wars. This film had low budget written all over it and the, non-heard of actors were pretty poor. Edward Furlong, who became famous after starring in Terminator 2, looked awful and Jason London wasn't the best choice for the villain. Daryl Hannah's career has also gone downhill of late and I haven't seen Robert Davi in a film for some time, so the director didn't really have a cast who are in there prime. Anyway, I doubt that this film will hurt there reputations because there all starring in these mediocre movies to pay bills.

I recommend this movie to people who are into their action/horror/mystery/thrillers starring Edward Furlong, Daryl Hannah Vinnie Jones, Jason London, Natalie Burn, Robert Davi, David Keith and Michael Pare. 2/10

Cliché vanity film.
suite9225 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The Three Acts:

The initial tableaux: Billie wakes up on a beach, battered and covered with sand. Her short term memory is shot, but she remembers to find her dog tags before proceeding inland. She soon joins a chase where one side is armed, and she is among the chased. Erin is separated and killed by Sarge, the leader of the armed uniformed men. Billie escapes with Berto, Chloe, Nick, and Todd, who lead her to Quentin, the de facto leader of the prisoners. Billie swaps kidnapping stories with the others.

Rich seems to be the straw boss of the island. He's disappointed with Sarge that Erin is dead. Mao is coming the next day.

Delineation of conflicts: The gang of kidnappers/murderers would like to keep the human traffic flowing, since there is a lot of money in organ harvesting. The prisoners would like to escape with their lives. If possible, hurting the efforts of the traffickers would be nice. The gang has weapons, transportation, radios, money, and contacts. The prisoners have their good health, for a while, at least. Billie tries to figure out the connections among them.

Resolution: Do the prisoners find a weakness?

At first glance, a mediocre b movie. When examined, a potential future cult classic action survival thriller.
blaynebittner16 July 2015
The movie seems predictable. The predictable twists were taken out early in the movie to surprise us with the unpredictable twists. This makes the film more enjoyable as the plot unwinds further into the movie. There were some solid acting performances such as Darryl Hannah and Robert Davi.

After about half an hour in, we think we're still watching a b movie. Because of this intentional yet enjoyable section of the movie, we think we know how the movie will end. Some of the watchers of this movie may get frustrated because they wanted a different ending or wanted to see more skin.

As an adult viewer, I respect when movies are created with far less nudity. The movie is still a great action thriller without showing boobs, and I applaud that. Some men may not like it and rate it low for this reason.

The acting where needed from the cast was spot on. We got to know our characters and actually care about them before the killing starts. Each moment where someone we care about dies, it hurts. This brings the emotional element necessary in good thrillers to immerse us into the movie entirely.

The climax is later in the movie than most aggressive action thrillers, which makes this movie refreshing and different.

There has been a longstanding trend of overly happy every after endings, and while the ending isn't the most sad, its not typical and its a lot more realistic. I'm remaining vague and neutral to prevent spoiling the plot. What I am getting at here is that the ending and the second half of the movie venture far off stereotypical Hollywoood in a lot of the plot twists.

A great thing about this movie is we don't know if who we care about are going to die nor live, both antagonists and protagonists die in this movie. Rather than people walking away without a scratch from gun fights, they're getting torn apart.

In a lot of movies of this type, we feel distanced from the characters and are distracting by them overacting. However, we feel immersed into the film by the halfway through point whether we enjoy their individual performances or not.

A lot of the best movies being released in 2014 and 2015 have action scenes that are so long and repetitive that the action becomes boring. The action in this movie has quite a large variation. When one takes all parts of the movie into consideration, this movie deserves a lot higher than 4.5/10.

The action style early into the movie was a lot more simplistic. When Darryl Hannah's back story is told, we believe she can fight as well as she does. That's why being patient with the first 30 minutes of the movie is important to enjoy this film. The action is very smart in the way that it builds up to a thrilling conclusion we didn't expect because of how the movie's pace immerses us by the middle of the movie.

I will enjoy re-watching this with friends who share the taste of this movie with me. I may even buy a couple copies as birthday gifts for those who I know will like it. Not everyone will be happy with this movie. Some people will not enjoy this movie until they watch it a second time. This movie will grow on people who give it a chance.

Another positive subtle use of special effects was using colors to set the mood of the film, and help immerse us into the movie more as the movie continued.

At the end of the day, its an action movie that will never be nominated for Academy awards. Its more tailored to men's enjoyment more than women, but most girlfriends will prefer it over the action movies men usually make them watch.

"NATALIE BURN" IS EXCELLENT!!! IT'S A GOOD CHEAP B-MOVIE, JUST SHOULD'VE BEEN BETTER.
lukem-5276029 September 2019
This low-budget Thriller, here in England called "Left To Die" & not "Awaken", could have been so Awesome but the surrounding cast, even for a B-movie was terrible!!! Here in "England" the cover has a big stupid picture of "Vinnie Jones" & his name written "Big" like he's the main lead? But HE'S just a small role as a the usual mouthy thug!!! Terrible cover art.

I don't get it? It was pointless, the Director gathered a load of familiar faces & B-movie stars for an ensemble cast but didn't use any of the actor's properly at all? Felt like a complete waste of all these know the face actors!!! The stand out excellent star was "Natalie Burns" who is so good as a totally convincing bad a##, her performance was full of emotion & anger, she deserved a better film & supporting cast & Director!!! Some of the fights are really good & bloody & Natalie as "Billie Kope" is great, her role is fine & she makes an excellent tough action hero!!! I was gutted that one of my fave old school B-movie actors "Robert Davi" has a tiny & completely pointless little role as "Quintin" a guy who has been on the Strange island for a while & is abit mysterious, i say it's "pointless" because his role should've been a main part in the story as he makes a change half way through the film & should have been a big exciting part where he goes up against the "bad guys" with tough chick "Billie" but he doesn't? He walks off & is never seen again? Such a huge waste of the excellent "Robert Davi" who could have helped with them & done some cool action!!! Davi should have been the 2nd main lead after "Natalie Burn" but he was wasted!!!

oh the story is a bunch of people wake-up on a strange island & later find out their all being harvested by black market organ theifs, a good idea but mostly it's too cheesy because of the terrible acting from the supporting cast such as a pointless role for "Edward Furlong" it's terrible, we also have "Darryl Hannah" who is actually ok in a tiny role, theres also "Michael Copon" who is horrendous as an actor here!!! There's a tiny pointless embarrassing tid bit for veteran B-movie star "Michael pare", there's British bad guy "Vinnie Jones" who just does the same in every role, there's "Daz Crawford" another horrendous actor, there's also "Jason London" who is just about ok as a silly villain, there's also a very old looking "David Keith" as a Doctor who looks fed-up in his tiny part & then there's the sister of "Billie", "Kat" played by "Christa Campbell" who is just ok in her tiny role. It just feels like a massive waste of a big cast of B-movie stars!!!

Apart from some cool fight scenes that all feature the excellent "Natalie Burns" it often feels abit dull but is strangely still entertaining in it's cheap action way, "Robert Davi" who i love was totally wasted, what the hell was the Director thinking? Or the writer? A shame. Worth a watch for a new & cool female action hero but everything else is abit dull, that being said it's still an ok easy watching B-movie, even if it's just to watch the Awesome & beautiful "Natalie Burn" kick some a##, there's a few good scenes such as the "Shark" bit & like i said some good fights & i like the big Tropical island setting IT'S just a shame because it all felt wasted, just could've been so much better!!! An easy watching cheap action flick that's not terrible & there's way worse films out there.

Bad and unoriginal action movie
RandomTard16 May 2021
Let's start with the obvious - this is not a mystery movie and most defenitely not a horror movie. It is a very basic action movie that has a story that has been done a million times before - it adds nothing new and I can't really understand why someone felt the need to do this garbage. The lead actress is annoing and has like one expression.

The movie it self is not badly done, they had some budget clearly. Too bad they didn't have a script.

Lousy all around movie
mm-7568726 July 2022
It is surprising that this was so bad because there were some real actors in it that I actually recognized. But the script was awful and most of the acting was atrocious. The story was an old story that has been told in so many movies it is not even close to interesting. I often wonder how movies this bad get released and what happens to the directors afterwards.

So bad it's ... bad.
slam16322 August 2022
Pretty much everything about this movie is stupid. The plot doesn't even begin to make sense. The film is just a grab-bag of cliches strung together with some of the worst dialogue in cinematic history. The lead turns in a thoroughly wooden performance, although in fairness even the best actor would struggle to make anything of the material she's given.

Everyone involved will probably want to take this off their resumes, but none more than Daryl Hannah, a first-rate actress who deserves better than this. She spends a large part of the film looking devastated and clutching a stuffed monkey, and her visible despair at finding herself in this absolute turkey of a movie is perhaps the only convincing or relatable thing in the whole film.

There is nothing here that couldn't be fixed with a better screenplay, one or two original ideas, shrewder casting choices, dialogue that didn't sound as if it had been translated into English from the original Chinese subtitles by a native Polish speaker, and a director who hadn't graduated from the "straight to video" school of filmmaking. As it is, though, it's a hot mess, but not in any enjoyable or interesting way.

1 star for the scenery, and 1 star for the stuffed monkey. I was going to award another star for the reference to "oceanic whitetip sharks", but when the sharks in question finally put in an appearance, they turn out to be blacktip reef sharks. Apparently even the oceanic whitetips wanted nothing to do with this mess.

A film of two halves which goes quickly downhill in the second one
mikesc6015 December 2017
Not too bad for some fairly easy entertainment and intrigue - if you can tolerate the unnecessarily gratuitous violence and blood which at times is pretty sickening for me. But when the intrigue ends about half way through when the mystery is uncovered, the film degenerates into comedic posturing by a ridiculous number of body guards unnecessarily threatening a couple of defenceless men and a morally bankrupt story line which could so easily have raised the tenor of the film if it had included an ounce of humanity. The only attempt at this, with a contrived reconciliation which flew in the face of all normal sensibilities was promptly snuffed out along with the most of the robotic characters that behaved as though they were supposed to have been in a sci fi movie. Even the attempt at romance was more like a pair of the 'Wooden Tops' getting together. An ill conceived plot that started well but completely failed to deliver.

Potential...lost
Peppered_Productions3 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This falls into the category of 'coulda been'. An oft-visited concept, this film had a potentially good plot, location, cast of knowns. But, unfortunately, it suffers from poor editing, acting, and day-for-nightmare.

I agree with other reviewers' criticisms of jumpy cuts, direction, and it definitely has some moments of laughably unrealistic dialog. Also irksome is cinematography comes into play. Characters are in harsh daylight, then suddenly in the murky realm of day-for-dusk.

The theme for this endeavor is 'unevenness'. It's a shame, because, with a solidified cohesive vision, it could have been a decent movie. But, as-is, it is a riff-fest waiting to happen.

A B-movie bore, aside from the supporting cast
Leofwine_draca15 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
LEFT TO DIE is a B-movie that exists under a ton of different titles including AWAKEN and A PERFECT VACATION. Whichever way you look at it, it's a pretty stupid production that benefits from poor direction turning the whole thing into a very cheesy experience. Like THE CONDEMNED and BATTLE ROYALE before it, the story sees a group of strangers being individually kidnapped and released on a jungle island, where they will become unwitting donors for an illegal organ donation scheme.

The story is vapid and clichéd, the script predictable in the extreme. The cheesy fight scenes are about as bad as you'd expect. As the lead actress, Natalie Burn has zero presence on screen. The only reason to watch this is the exemplary supporting cast, which takes some beating in B-movie terms. The triumvirate of Vinnie Jones, Jason London, and Daryl Hannah play the villains, while the protagonists are played by the likes of Robert Davi, Edward Furlong, and Daz Crawford. Even martial arts supremo Benny 'The Jet' Urquidez has a flashback cameo as the protagonist's father. It's not high entertainment, but at least the familiar faces kept me watching.

I liked it
karjens3 May 2016
Personally I liked the movie. It was an interesting plot, one that has been done before but not enough to make it tired.

Unlike others, I thought it was well acted. Natalie Burn is excellent in the very rare roll of a woman who kicks @ss. I think she has the potential to do a lot more action roles, if more people would write lead action roles for women that is.

It did drag in spots and the music really didn't help with that but I find that to be true with a pretty much any movie or show set in a forest. All in all, I found it to be an entertaining movie for a lazy day.

A Perfect Vacation
a_baron22 August 2015
This film takes its original title from the first action of its central characters, in particular they awaken on a tropical beach with a recollection of being in a fight or some such. The last arrival is our heroine, who is certainly no damsel.

The first question is who or what is behind this bizarre set up? If you have seen films of this kind before - "Kingdom Come" or the classic TV series "The Prisoner" - you will know there are two broad explanations: supernatural or human artifice. It doesn't take long for it to become clear there is nothing supernatural about "A Perfect Vacation", although not everyone is who he appears to be.

The bottom line is that an organisation - small but evil - is offering life-saving transplant operations to the rich and powerful. And guess who are the donors? They have been dumped here in the wilds so their bodies will be purified, purged of all the toxins us city dwellers have in every cell. That is about it, although the heroine has a hidden agenda, the search for her lost sister. The latest recipient is a young, desperately ill girl who is brought there by her mother. Suffice it to say, things don't go to plan. A few years from now, 3D printing will eliminate the need for transplant surgery as we know it, but we can still have a gorefest in the meantime.

There is quite a bit of action, and although the plot is minimal, the film still manages to be a little confusing, but if you like films of this nature, you'll probably like this one.

Entertaining
Halopinero20 May 2016
The term is "campy". Everyone needs a campy movie now and then and this one offers laughs (unintentional or not) as well as drama and just enough whamos to keep you interested. You can't beat the scenery. Filmed in California....but I can't determine where. Jungle scenes are studio work since we don't have jungles here. Some of the acting is weak but there are a few good scenes. Vinnie Jones is always a hoot to watch. I've always liked Daryl Hannah and she doesn't disappoint as the mysterious Mao.

It was refreshing to see an action, kick $#?% type of movie without gratuitous "f" bombs. Definitely stronger than most "B" movies.

Macy's Day Parade
bemyfriend-4018431 January 2023
Too many close-ups! I felt like I was watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade of those giant balloons; with all the big, big faces filling the screen. The film was also predictable in its action; interspersed some corny, emotion-filled death scenes. But the lead actress is very beautiful, and even did at least some of the fighting stunts. She wore a skin-tight costume, which satisfyingly showed off her athletic body, as she almost single-handedly beat up the baddies. I hope to see her again, in similar roles. Seen on Tubi, the free streaming site, which has many TV series, movies, and even live TV.

BAG 'EM AND TAG 'EM
nogodnomasters11 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Billie (Natalie Burn) finds herself stranded on an island dirty, sandy, wearing designer jeans, and full of flashbacks to her marshal arts training and looking for her sister. She meets up with similar people stranded on the island and occasionally a group of bad guys, lead by Vinnie Jones, show up and grab one for....the plot spoiler written in the movie description on the back of the DVD. Robert Davi is the leader of the island group. Daryl Hannah shows up late whose career has stagnated as an evil old woman cameo.

The film is basically formula. I waited for the twist(s) which weren't exciting. Look to see more of the talented Natalie Burn.

Guide: No f-bombs, sex, or nudity.
