Light Hearted Cultural Romance
raj0404927 December 2013
For decades together Tamil Cinema starts when the lovers first meet and ends when the parents give the green signal. But the reality paints a contrasting story, the brief stint between engagement and marriage creates more drama than Tamil Cinema can possibly handle. Prasanna's Kalyana Samayal Sadham (KSS) explores this period and the atrocities that make it even more interesting.

Ragu (Prasanna) is engaged to Meera (Lekha Washington) and the problems that these couples face together has resulted in the 130 minutes celluloid. Barely a month before marriage, Ragu discovers that he is suffering from erectile dysfunction which he mistakes as Impotence. Along with his four friends, he ponders the streets looking for a remedy which never arrives. This forms the first half.

Second half shows why marriage is a real pain in the posterior. Misunderstandings, wrong words at the wrong time, gossiping relatives, pointless traditions and smiley balls fuse together to form the second half.

There is a genuine discontinuity between the two halves. Impotence, a very sensitive issue looses attention as soon as the first half ends. Apart from the smiley ball, there is no link or reference to it whatsoever. This creates a sombre effect and causes a few yawns. But KSS has its own pros- no songs have been inserted for the sake of inserting; no romantic numbers with the Alps background, reality speaks in every scene and enables the audience to connect with it better.

Prasanna as a debut director deserves praise as he handles with finesse and not charisma which would have spelled disaster for this type of genre. Lekha Washington is a treat to the eyes and the role has spread out her acting wings. A separate comedy track is avoided to keep the story as real and as straight as possible. But laughs are sprinkled all over the scenes right till the end. Quite a few double- meaning one liners might make the family men frown but the younger generations are bound to get a kick out of it."Pallu pona rasave" makes us hum while the rest create a subtle charm. Delhi Ganesh, Uma Padmanabhan add charm to the cast.

KSS: Enter without expectation, you will enjoy it.

One of the tastiest wedding banquet
fredberglyle27 March 2014
Initially I thought the film to be a family entertainer i.e., to be watched with a typical South Indian family on a Sunday afternoon, but was wrong. The theme revolves around few hilariously raunchy elements (based on some serious issues) would/might not be easy to see with children and/or parents. The director served this wedding banquet with superb main course (the major part of the film) that would blow your senses to the zenith. The dessert (movie near the climax) was little short of excellence. The actors did a creditable job. Script have no lines of error. Screenplay showed no act of shyness to the powerful theme for a Tamil movie.

The bottom line : KALYAANA SAMAYAL SAADHAM - this wedding meal satisfies all your taste buds. Indeed the movie too.

Good Entertainer, Funny worth a watch

I started watching this movie more out of curiosity, assuming it to be another low budget film. But it turned out to movie unlike the typical Tamil BS. This movie was a pleasant surprise.

Modern story-line, maybe not a family movie as its theme is impotence. The sensitive issue has been portrayed very well, with the exception of some cheesy double meaning one-liners, but i loved them too. The movie is what typically happens in a Tamil Brahmin's wedding. I could relate to it..

Innovative screenplay, I loved the Facebook themed screenplay. Good music, pleasant to listen to. A good rom com, which is a rarity in Tamil cinema, looking at the films which come out these days.

Good acting by everyone, Lekha is cute as a teddy..:)..She carries herself with her good acting and a drop dead gorgeous smile. I may have a crush on her...ha-ha

Hats off RS Prasanna, a tam brahm himself...good effort overall.

Light hearted, funny, engaging...this is Kalyana Samayal Sadham...Worth a watch...

A hilarious laughter fest about the big fat South Indian wedding. 'Kalyana Samayal Sadam' shows far more than just the rituals of a wedding, the film shows the chaos that goes behind a South Indian wedding.

A Big Fat South Indian Wedding With A Personal Problem.
pantheraleomaximus2 July 2014
Kalyana Samayal Saadham directed by debutant RS Prasanna is a well-made adult romcom, that keeps you smiling. 'Kalyana Samayal Sadam' shows far more than just the rituals of a wedding, the film shows the chaos that goes behind a South Indian wedding. the film is between romantic comedy and adult comedy. Love in the film is according to modern times where changing relationship status in face book is as important as life itself!!!

A wonderful entertainer with all the spices and ingredients for a complete laugh riot ... TRIVIA

1) The makers took to innovative Social Media campaign to promote the movie which was hugely successful. The director and crew have started posting their marriage picture on their social networking pages as the film is centered on a big fat south Indian wedding.

2) Actor Prasanna had sung the song 'Pallu Pona Raja' with lyrics penned by Srikanth.

The climax is extremely hilarious.

This is one of the best romantic adult comedies (rom-com) based on Tamil Brahmin marriages
amrithaveera11 January 2023
This is a light hearted fun but mature theme based movie that is well worth your time. Many of the moments are fairly relateable to south Indian arranged marriages. The direction by first time director RS Prasanna is commendable. This is the original idea behind the Bollywood hit Shubh Mangal Savdhan. Acting mentions include a great performance by Prasanna Venkatesan, good performances by Lekha Washington, Delhi Ganesh, Uma, Geetha Ravishankar, Natarajan Narayanasamy and good cameos by Kathadi Ramamurthy and Crazy mohan. In fact all the supporting cast members have done a good job. Background music and some of the songs will stay with you long after the movie. Have watched this movie several times . Forget the flaws and enjoy!
