Intriguing and Intense, worth a watch
ncunnah14 March 2014
An intense first episode from Robert Rodriguez, i enjoyed how unpredictable the gecko brothers are. I wasn't disappointed, defiantly worth a watch. I never watched the original and this might be of benefit to me, I've read reviews from people who did and they seem to find it predictable due to its similarity's in plot. But even still this is a new show and will unlikely follow the original plot every episode. Only downside is it struggled to explain the supernatural side to give me some understanding of where the shows heading, this may of been intentional though in any case it left me looking forward to the next episode. Not bad at all, there's plenty of shows out now that are a hell off allot worse than this, if you haven't watched the original don't let people who have put you off this one. 7.5/10

predictable & same as movie?

Warning: Spoilers
just watched it, I expect some kind of improvisation from the movie but its ended up similar only. They just kind of stretching it to make it long for a series. If you've watch the original movie, you know its really really good but this series is so similar so it become totally predictable. Maybe they add some new character, the Texas ranger who will look for them no matter what for the sake of his died senior, and... his cute daughter. The two lead actor, why they use those hot guy? No one can replace Tarantino character? I'm not an actor but the acting look not really good and you know there is something wrong. By the way, if you never watch the original movie I guess you will think its good but compared to the movie which is directed by the same director, Robert Rodriguez who is lately messed up with some machete, its far better. Whatever I will still follow this series because I want to know how do they improvise it, especially Salma Hayek. Clooney & Tarantino are the irreplaceable Geckos ever!

Pilot

As you should expect: it's got the Quentin Tarantino vibe; but lighter on the violence (so far) and with a sprinkling of humor, along with some supernatural elements.

Not bad for a pilot episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Not bad for a pilot episode. I watched it out more of a curiosity then anything. Funny, when one cannot sleep, I tend to watch anything off Netflix. I was expecting this episode to be awful. Woke Hollywood is dying and entertainment industry is going into the best to remake old shows/movies. Producers are running out of ideas, when a show was based off a minor character who was killed off in a B movie! What worked: Surprising the Pilot followed the essence of the original character. A Lethal Weapon style of two partners. Don Johnson is such a fine actor. One feels and likes the characters. The protagonist partner and the Bad Guys are believable and the South Texas feel was great. What does not work: With the Johnson character killed of the story/series goes into a slide. There was only so much material for a series that could be based off a B movies and a minor character. Stop watching this after a couple of shows. The series de evolves into something else. 7 stars.
