- Ragnar agrees to King Horik's request that he not execute Jarl Borg until they find a new ally. Floki learns from Helga he is to become a father and he suggests that they marry. He refuses to invite Ragnar however and his ill will towards his Earl becomes obvious. Aslaug is worried about her current pregnancy. The seer tells Ragnar that Athelstan is still alive. Ragnar receives word of a possible new ally but Rollo is suspicious, not having heard of this particular Earl. Ragnar is in for a surprise in store. King Aelle of Northumbria arrives in Wessex and King Ecbert proposes a marriage between his eldest son, Ethelwolf and Aelle's daughter Judith.—garykmcd
- King Horik considers freeing Borg to overpower and eliminate potential crown-rival Ragnar, especially since no alternative ally seems available. Then an unknown earl asks Ragnar to meet in the forest, where he learns it's Lagertha, who now commands her late abusive husband's hundred warriors. Bjorn is insecure about father's limited trust and love lessons from Floki, who rewards his lover Helga's pregnancy with a marriage, without inviting the earl. In Wessex, king Ecbert's confident Athelstan witnesses the arrival of his Northumbrian former king Aelle, who accepts an alliance to fight off the Vikings and attack neighboring Mercia, sealed by their royal heirs' marriage. Instead of liberation and revenge, Borg faces the cruelest execution known to Vikings: the blood eagle, which bars access to Walhalla unless he suffers the cutting of his ribs and baring of his lungs without 'cowardly' clamor.—KGF Vissers

Meanwhile King Ecbert and King Aella has a meeting to deal the attack to Mercia and to share the kingdom between them. Ecbert proposes the wedding of her son with King Aelle's daughter to seal their alliance. Ragnar receives a mysterious emissary of an unknown Earl that wants to join forces with him.
