Dr. Filmore makes a third appearance!
fybamgd11 July 2022
I really enjoy this program, and when Scott Lowell appears I really get a kick out of it! He's a great add to the team and his voice is exquisite. I wish he read books on audio as a profession. Go Scott Lowell!!

The actual who-dunnit part of the episode was good. The ending was pure mysoginistic crud. Shame on the writers!

Speed Chess
Hitchcoc27 February 2023
This episode moves into the world of chess. It turns out that Sweets is a chess master, so he infiltrates a club where the murder victim played before his death. It shows us that chess is a competitive sport with a lot of wackadoodles being involved. There is a bit of the Oedipus factor at work here. The death of the victim involves the use of pigs to eat bodies completely. There is a totally uninteresting subplot where Cam has been chosen as the female scientist of the year. Brennan, of course, believes there is only one persion who deserves such an award. Hmmm! I wonder who that could be. The ending is totally uninteresting, as is the solution to the murder.

Denigrates women in science
VaughanMurrae11 July 2022
Sweets gets to be a chess master. Cam, Angela and Brennen are "honoured" for being women in science by wearing a bikinis. The writing denigrates the most notable strength of this show which is top women in science.

Reminds me why I'd previously quit watching
flichopkinson5 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Having long been a fan of the books, I watched Bones from the beginning and was a fan of the characters and stories, even though they are so different from the books. But every now and then there's an episode with a side of misogyny so big, you wonder how it's even in the show... I'd previously rage quit when Brennan was willing to forgo the large house they wanted for their family to assuage Booth's fragile male ego (he refused to live where he couldn't afford to pay for half, as the 'man should be able to provide for his family', despite her being wealthy enough to buy their dream home for them). Now we're expected to believe that three outstanding women in science are _flattered_ that the only way they can be recognised for their achievements is through a bikini photo shoot? I've studied science and know a lot of women still working in science who've had to fight to be taken seriously in what can still be a male-dominated area. That these women wouldn't be insulted and appalled at this is unrealistic and pretty insulting to the audience as well. These might just be small things, but successful women performing these jobs can be great role models - you can't be what you can't see. To show that even these women are unquestioningly willing to be sex objects or subjugate their family's welfare for the ego of their male partner is really disappointing. And not even good scripting, as more drama could be elicited from the conflicts in these situations than just including a "funny" twist at the end of an episode...

The show attempts to humanize Brennan when in fact she is insufferabe. It's getting old.

Week after week its brennan telling her intern how great she is and hodgins managing to over do something that causes a mess and someone breaking the tempo or diverting attention to announce some exciting news , which usually isn't exciting ... booth is his usual grump self ...

Surprise, another bad Dutch portrayal
zoetp11 April 2024
Hiya Bones Booth, love the pod! Just wanted to let you know that this woman 'Ingrid Vanderlube' (which should be with spaces and double b) clearly isn't a Dutch woman. I am, and i had to rewind like 20 times to hear her speak "Dutch". The first word is Dutch but it's said so extremely bad. Some words weren't even Dutch.. Also her accent is terrible. Well no, it's an accent but it's totally not a "Dutch" accent. Most American views on us Dutchies are wrong sadly. The chess part was interesting tho, dr Filmore was fun but the science women in bikini's was degrading and not fitting with the show.
