Despite a routine plot, an over the top climax & many unwanted songs it still fairly entertains due to its action, confrontation scenes & Manoj Bajpai.
bobbysing19 March 2015
If one wishes to list the negative features associated with this first biggie of 2015, then TEVAR has got many. Beginning with once again being an official remake of a south hit titled OKKADU (Telugu – 2003) revolving around the same old repetitive plot seen many times before with a much longer length than required due to many below average unwanted songs thrown just at the wrong timings slowing its otherwise racy pace quite severely. Full of fights, swords, guns, goons and murder it has all clichéd characters ranging from a carefree boy-hero, his group of friends, a police officer father, a caring mother, a bubbly sister, an active politician with his cunning brother and a heroine who is the center of attraction as always in a typical Bollywood film.

But despite all the above mentioned flaws, I am still not willing to ridicule the film completely since it does give you many decent masala moments within this fixed format and has many technical merits in its favour too ranging from a pulsating background score, excellent camera-work and some well-conceived long action/chase sequences shot on actual locations, providing the much required exciting moments throughout along with some fine performance delivered by the known names.

Starting with an enjoyable local feel of a small town TEVAR opens energetically featuring Kabaddi, an introductory fight and a well- choreographed song "Superman" in the first 15 minutes. But then goes back to all formula twists as Sonakshi and other major characters enter the screen with some entertaining dialogues. Its major plot gets revealed just after the dragging "Radha" song and the film becomes entirely predictable post that sequence unarguably. The poor songs keep hindering the pace one after another adding to the over-length of the film making it more than 150 minutes long. And then, though the film keeps coming up with some engaging moments at a regular basis both before and after the interval, it sadly all ends with a pretty poor, obvious and over the top climax that should have been altered.

However what still makes TEVAR a fairly entertaining film for the masses is the sum of few well written dialogues, superbly conceived action as well as confrontation sequences and Manoj Bajpai alone to be straight. Arjun Kapoor gives an honestly worked out performance (particularly in the action sequences) justifying his banal lead character making a visible effort but his overall impact still lacks the punch probably due to the thin voice texture and a bit of over-confidence. Astonishingly Sonakshi Sinhaonce again does a similar 'seen before' kind of role as if she is doing it in a sleep walk whereas the supporting cast efficiently lift up the film featuring the impressive Raj Babbar (as the father), Deepti Naval (mother), Subrat Dutt (as Bajpai's sidekick),Rajesh Sharma (as the politician) and the girl playing Arjun's younger sister.

Returning to Manoj Bajpai, the main savior of the film, its really amazing how he manages to add a lot of newness in a character that he has already played in a few films before. And that's exactly the reason why he is considered one of the most gifted actors of our present times unanimously. In other words TEVAR majorly survives due to Manoj Bajpai ruling the scenes in particular along with the worth watching action, dialogues and cinematography capturing the local feel effectively. Having said that, its editing taking out at least 3 songs and few sequences could have resulted in much better film for sure.

Directed by the talented Amit Ravindernath Shar as his debut film, it does give you glimpses of an experienced man who knows his job well. And I hope he chooses a fresh theme next time coming up with a complete entertainer surprising both the masses as well as the classes together. The man has got the eye and probably an ear too as he aptly uses a soft sad number "Main Nahin Jaana Khereyan De Naal" towards the end that is an original song sung by the maestro Tufail Niyazi from Pakistan.

Ending on a nostalgic note, whenever there is a film like TEVAR solely made for the masses and smaller centers, I prefer to watch it in a single screen theater if possible as that remains the best place to watch such movies with the energetic roaring crowd instead of the silent, sophisticated audience of a multiplex. And all readers above the age of 35 would readily agree with the fact that watching a Bollywood masala movie in a single screen theater makes a major difference in your viewing and enjoying the film altogether without any doubt.

In short, nothing can beat the experience of watching a typical masala Hindi film at a single screen and its really sad that the coming generations are going to miss it. So if you love watching these movies specifically made for the masses and are a fan of Manoj Bajpai too then TEVAR can be tried as a one-time watch for the exceptionally talented actor alone, preferably at a single screen.

Remake of Telugu movie 'Okkadu' didn't meet the expectations... Watch it only for Manoj Bajpai!!
sbrjiten9 January 2015
Tevar is another remake of Telugu blockbuster 'Okkadu' starring Mahesh babu. Watch it only for Manoj Bajpai's acting, otherwise I would recommend to watch the original version instead. Arjun kapoor's acting is no way match with Mahesh, the real deal is comparing Prakash raj(villain's role in Telugu version) vs Manoj bajpai, Manoj really impressed me again with his terrific acting. Sonakshi is a big let down along with supporting actors, old formula repeated again in 2015. Most of Bollywood guys are busy with remakes of south films, trying for commercial hits rather trying something new and original. I give it 5/10.

One extra star for Manoj Bajpai, Minus two for Arjun & Sonakshi

Watch it only for Manoj Bajpai. There's nothing in the movie. Feels like you watching some 90s B grade flick!

Overdose of attitude without much sense or substance
ahegde314910 January 2015
'Tevar' meaning attitude is filled with macho-ism, routine action sequences and cheesy romance. Never expected some class cinema going through it, tried having an open-mind to enjoy anything it offers but still it failed terribly. Very bad start to new year for Bollywood. 'Tevar' has nothing new using regular formula of masala drama in Indian Cinema.

Main hero here played by Arjun Kapoor is Pintu Shukla a local kabbadi player of Agra, capable of winning matches single-handedly. Apart from that he is also a human-superman always ready to help people in danger using his strength. While Arjun tries his best to give a decent act but the character of Pintu lacks motivation and direction. His one-dimensional motive of helping out anybody no matter what lacks substance. At the same time we are introduced to the villain in Mathura, Gajendra Singh (Manoj Bajpai) a crime lord and the brother of Home minister. He falls for Radhika (Sonakshi Sinha) while watching her dance and straightaway starts pressurizing her to marry him. Both Pintu's and Radhika's road cross while Pintu was visiting Mathura and sees Gajendra forcibly dragging away Radhika who was trying to escape to U.S. As always our Superman needs to save the damsel, and here on the story is very predictable and seldom engaging.

While the first hour of character development was very bland and boring, but suddenly film gets engaging in the middle with some chase sequences and interactions between the villain and hero. Manoj Bajpai is always dependable but his talents are wasted here. Even though he was great to watch in many scenes yet the character of Gajendra also like the hero is quite one-dimensional. On the opposite side, Sonakshi Sinha gives another bad performance. She was unable bring forth her romance on the screen which is the only thing her character does starring clueless at Pintu. Surprises me she gave such a wonderful act in 'Lootera', her only film I liked so far. While Pintu's family was more likable though especially his sister. The film was not pathetic until the last half-an-hour of prolonged and tiring climax with lame predictable ending.

The film is shot nicely though, its always wonderful to have Taj Mahal in the backdrop.Debut director Amit Sharma shows a lot inconsistency. All the songs do not fit into screenplay nicely and feel forced. There is also romance and song in a chase sequence in second half which completely ruins the thrill and atmosphere built up. The dialogues are unremarkable plus the action is senseless and dumb. The length of 150 plus minutes is deterrent and mind-numbing. The production value is high, but even with lots of promotion I think this film will simply fail to entertain the audience. Overall, 'Tevar' was not only a terrible piece cinema but falls hugely short even as routine Bollywood action-flick.

RATING: [1/5]

Manoj rocks in a poor remake
akshay-ak-kumar18 July 2015
Tevar is remake of a Okkadu a Telugu film released in 2003. Okkadu was remade into Tamil called Ghilli in 2004 and then also into Kannada a year or two later.

I have watched Ghilli and I enjoyed it. It worked because of two reasons - one Vijay who played the hero and two was Prakash Raj who played the villain. Prakash had also played villain in original as well as in Kannada remake.

However, the Hindi remake has come a decade too late. Hindi audiences have moved on from watching simple masala movies which the 80s doled out regularly. They want some thing new and different.

Unfortunately, Tevar cannot offer anything new. To make matters worse, Arjun Kapoor doesn't have the charisma need to make a mediocre movie into a watchable film. He fails miserably. Unlike the original and Tamil remake where the respective superstars donned the role, Arjun is still trying to make his impression in Bollywood.

However, if there is one reason to watch this film and thats Manoj Bajpai. This man is brilliant as the villain. He plays a ruthless man, killing people with ease and also of a crazy awe struck lover who will go any distance to make the girl fall in love with him.

Manoj had done a similar role in Road, a decade back. However, Manoj ensures that the characters are different. Check out the scenes when he 1st sees Sonakshi or when he goes to college to propose to her. Mind blowing stuff which left me in splits.

Wish Tevar was made a decade ago with Salman Khan as hero and Manoj Bajpai the villain...it would have been a rocking film.

New Year and This thing? Hated it! Should have gone for ugly!
luckyrocks6109 January 2015
Goissue ! Was that even a movie?? :( My girl insisted me to watch this in place of ugly! I shouldn't have listened her and could have not wasted my money! I thought it will be a political action comedy film... But it's Ishaqzaade all over again without the Charming Parineeti Chopra and a goon chasing them rather then their parents! Cinematography is good.. But all you will see is Taj Mahal in every scene! Sonakshi Sinha has no other work then playing Damsel in distress Or meaningless roles so this time also it's not different, Arjun's Performance is mediocre and repetitive and no need to mention Manoj Bajpayee, He is good as always! There are few scenes which makes you laugh but rest is disaster! Songs are also not ear pleaser so there is not even a single reason to watch this film... I don't go out of theater before movie finishes but today I really wanted to!! Better You miss this film and don't even watch later on TV... It's just waste, utter waste!!!

Demands Heckload Of Patience. ♦ 21%
nairtejas9 January 2015
Fifteen years into the millennium, Bollywood still hasn't learned to clip off bad elements from a film. It continues to sample tried and tested components so as to rake in the moolah, without caring a tick for "cinema as an art." Since the start of this decade, we have been served with loads of remakes and sequels, and Tevar is nothing different. Only, it regards its audience as rocks.

Tevar tells a story (for the what time now? After Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, fifth?) about a real-life superman (Arjun Kapoor) who doesn't bear any superpowers yet makes his life-purpose to help a damsel (actually a derogatory word for Miss Sonakshi) in distress out of the clutches of a ruffian (Manoj Bajpayee) by making her stay in his own house without the knowledge of his family members including his father who is a cop. As stupid as the story sounds, one will jump out of the hall in exasperation. Unfortunately, there is no improvement in the story, the narration, the screenplay, the action, or at least the humor by the time it reaches its climax. Then the climax happens and I almost smothered myself to death with the corn buds in the basket that didn't actually pop.

The makers have welcomed new year with a bombastic escapade of amateur characters that look strange even in its fictional milieu. While one gets excited with Arjun Kapoor's hot bod and stylistic stunts, the dialogs come and wreak havoc with the whole play. They are both obscene and substandard to even relish. Manoj Bajpayee is good enough as the villain, but a film about heroism will definitely take the plunge if its villain is smarter than the hero. Just what happens with the 150 minute long drama that shows no hint of stopping.

Five songs fit through the drama is like adding chili flakes in a chocolate ice-cream. Most of the story unfolds or folds in these songs which help in the combined torture.

It is true when people say that the first major Bollywood release of any year is part of a jinx and will bomb at the box office. Arjun Kapoor's opening film of the year, thus qualifies, and once again confirms that the jinx is, after all, for real.

BOTTOM LINE: If you can handle tedious stories that are more dramatic and foolish than our own year-long Television soaps, Tevar is definitely made for you.

Can be watched with a typical Indian family? YES

An insult on the face of the cult Telugu movie 'Okkadu'
ggod-9895523 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Nothing was worth watch in this yawning film other than manoj bajpayee. Arjun looks good as the action hero(he's got a good personality) but his presence is eaten away by the sore screenplay. Sonakshi- let's not talk about her.

Okkadu starring Mahesh Babu, Bhoomika Chawla and Prakash Raj was an all-time blockbuster and cult movie for many reasons which was the reason I was excited to watch this movie. Unfortunately I couldn't catch it in the theatres because of the poor response and I few days ago I saw it on TV but it didn't even worth my time.

People are comparing bang bang and brothers to their Hollywood versions and insulting them(which is true) so now I am going to compare it with few parts in the Telugu version to prove why this film was so bad.

1. Movie is about a kabaddi player so an important essence of the plot lies in kabaddi. In fact, the climax of all the south versions was in the kabaddi with the national kabaddi game as the pre-climax. But here there is only 1 kabaddi match that too in 'Rajinikanth' style!!!????

2. There was very melodious song in all the south versions in the 2nd half in the moonlight with the charminar in the background and it is presented by the hero, his sister and their respective friends to make the actress feel happy. But here, that song is replaced by a senseless party song????

There are many other reasons like this. But apart from these the major drawback is the screenplay of the film which is toooooooooooo boring and slow. Otherwise, just like for mahesh babu this film would have made arjun the next big thing in bollywood.

very good mas ala movie:- overall entertaining
grvhhhh20 January 2015
don't know y people are giving negative comments to this movie. the movie is packed with action. there is a little bit lack of story but overall a good worth watching mas-ala action flick. Songs are nice. and for those who are saying that background song Jogniya while action scenes ruined the action scenes is completely wrong. Because for me that Jogniya song has added a power factor to those action scenes, makes scenes more impactive also the direction is good. Arjun is completing the demand of the movie very well also his family members and friends(in movie) are giving their needed contribution to movie Sonakshi is also looking beautiful in the movie...but movie is lacking a little in romantic scenes. and here comes the MANOJ BAJPAYI, always good...entertaining with skill of humor and showing rage both. Raj Babbar got not enough scenes to show his acting. overall a worth watching movie with some good actions n few comedy scenes and yes the songs are also good.go n watch, you will find yourself.

Why this stupid and unnecessary violent favor!!?
dineshprakash9 January 2015
There is very fine line between courage and stupidity. This film tries to show courage but outcome is stupidity. I am unable to understand that what was that, which lured makers to buy remake right of Telgu film Okkadu, or have they changed this one so much that soul of original is dead? Director Mr. Amit Ravindranath Sharma is technically apt but creatively not. Story is very old and routine. Screenplay by Director himself and Shantanu Srivastva offers some new approach towards old happenings. Dialogues by Shantanu Shrivastava is good. Major drawbacks of this film are love scenes and action scenes, which had to be the backbone. You never feel the reason behind love. Both protagonist and antagonist almost fell for her as if any one can fell for her and go up to extent of sacrificing life. If you protect a person then you have to fall for!? Action sequences are just for violence. Neither approach is new nor visuals. Actor builds up tension by his performance but his vow to remain in undergarments makes it funny. You wont be able to feel the tension or fun at all. Same way, they show love song in a chasing sequence. Again you neither enjoy the love track neither the thrill. Festival Holy is inserted just for visual enhancement but when they travels to another city, their vehicle has full stains of color but this city is too far from any note of color, when it was supposed to be the same day or next day of Holi. Climax is lengthy and boring. The chemistry between Hero and her sister is very good and maximum credit goes to the actress who performed the sister character. Performance wise again Manoj Bajpayee is outstanding. You love his performance and presence on screen even playing negative character. His performance at the time of interval again shows his caliber. Arjun Kapoor is good. Sonakshi Sinha is fine. Raj Babber, Rajesh Sharma are OK. Subrat Dutta as Kakdi is very good. The actress, who played Pinki, lead actor sister is very impressive. Music by Sajid-Wajid is good.

Humble Hero
pjbhaumik1 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Tevar played on simple truths about corruption and righteousness. This movie refrained from indulgences and Bollywood glam. The humble towns depicted the dilapidated concrete infrastructure and resilient slums of areas under siege of corrupt politics and organized crime. There was insight into a growing sport, named Kabadi, since the local Kabadi hero was just someone doing the right thing at the right time selflessly. Selfless acts of kindness accumulated for the hometown hero, and the damsel in distress fell for him as he saved her from a gangster. Her brother was a member of media and fast on the gangster's trail. He died at the hands of the gangster along with a majority of the moral resistance to the gangster's proliferating corruption. Fear finally fell to love and respect as the few courageous patrons left in the city teamed together for helping the hero squash the gang.

Pinto aur Gajender ki hide and seek!!! Tevar is for people who like masala entertainers... BE WARNDED
jmoneyjohal9 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Pintoo Shukla (arjun) is the son of an IPS officer (raj babbar) and he is gutsy, rough and tough but at the same time knows how to respect and treat women. He loves Kabaddi and heads to Mathura. In tha place lives Radhika (sonakshi) who falls in the eyes of the notorious Bahubali Gajendra Singh (manoj bajpayee) desperate to marry her. A chance incident ends up with Pintoo clashing against Gajendra and what happens from there forms the rest.

The director has come up with a action packed romantic storyline and while the presentation was rich, the narrative was engaging enough. The dialogues were well written. The script was familiar but the screenplay made it lot better. The background score was melodious and three songs were worth watching. Cinematography was the main strength to this film. Editing was needed more because the films drags at places,15-20 min trim was needed. Costumes were well designed to suit the backdrop while the art department was natural. Arjun Kapoor has shown his improvement once again and he does a very good job. Sonakshi Sinha made her presence felt. The best among the lot is Manoj Bajpayee, he was too good. Subrat Dutta was impressive, Raj Babbar was seen in a great form after awhile, Rajesh Sharma was apt. Shruti Haasan sizzled with her song.

The film is the remake of the Telugu blockbuster Okkadu starring Mahesh Babu and it must be said that the director has not deviated from the original. The first half goes about with certain elements of humor, romance and action. The interval bang was interesting and the second half has the same momentum filled with action and drama. The climax sequences came out well. Overall, this is a film which has been packaged with the right kind of commercial masala that would appease the audience, yes the story is done to death but works, reasons being the film is surrounded with entertaining sequences, the acting is top notch, and action is great. Only negative is the films pace. Finally this a film which should attract all masala film lovers its not made for lovers of serious art cinema. A mass film.

A Routine Fare!
namashi_19 January 2015
Relying on outdated Bollywood Masala, 'Tevar' is, at best, A Routine Fare, that adds nothing new to your plate. There are a few striking sequences here, but overall, it lacks novelty.

'Tevar' Synopsis: A Kabaddi player rescues a young woman from a gangster, who's wants to marry her at any cost. The fight between the good & bad begins....

'Tevar' has a slow first-hour, where the characters & their motives get established. The story hardly moves & some pointless songs pop-up occasionally. The second-hour picks up well, with the story progressing in a feverish pace & the confrontations between the Hero & Villain pack a punch. But, 'Tevar' is lengthy. At a 158-minutes, the film feels a bit too stretched!

Shantanu Srivastava's Screenplay is outdated, however, a few sequences are nicely written. Amit Ravindernath Sharma's Direction is stylish. Cinematography is rustic. Editing isn't crisp enough. Music by Various Artists, is foot-tapping. Action-Sequences are impressively done.

Performance-Wise: Arjun Kapoor enacts the macho hero with honesty, but he doesn't particularly stand out. He's decent, that's about it! Sonakshi Sinha doesn't do anything else besides crying & running. She SERIOUSLY needs to reinvent herself. Manoj Bajpai is the sole saving grace. He's simply electrifying as the despicable yet love-struck villain. Raj Babbar is in top-form, yet again! His sequences stand out. Subrat Dutta is first-rate. Rajesh Sharma is wasted.

On the whole, 'Tevar' is plain mediocre.

No Tevar in Tevar
prats-pratiksha14 January 2015
There were only 3 saving grace in the movie. First, the song - Main toh Superman, Salman ka Fan; second, Arjun Kapoor - his comic timing, action, and dialog delivery all get a 5/5 from me; and third (also the best), Manoj Bajpai - he was the perfect villain in our cute little romantic-action movie, he did manage to bring the evil aura on the screen quiet fashionably.

The only reason for below the average ranking is Sonakshi Sinha-I have nothing against her-but she spoiled the entire fun of the movie. I think its about time she quits the Rowdy Rathore-R for Rajkumar-Action Jackson-Tevar genre and start doing something where she can act besides from being the damsel in distress.

So, yes, if you are looking for a way to kill time, watch this movie, although I am not sure if it would help, because honestly, in the end of the movie, I knew what was going to happen, and could not wait for them to get it over with.

Kudos to the supporting cast of the movie, who actually did a fantastic job!

If you are longing for some masala potboiler, Tevar is a one-time watch. Otherwise , you might want to skip it.
ketgup8310 January 2015
Movie Name :- Tevar Genre : Action / Drama Rating : Average 2.5/5

Tevar is a routine good vs evil flick devoid of story and direction. What works is commendable performances and well-choreographed action stunts.

As Pintu( Arjun Kapoor) supports Radhika( Sonakshi Sinha) who escapes from the hell of local mafia Gajendra Singh(Manoj Bajpai), he falls in love with her and must fight to protect her

Directed by Amit Sharma, Tevar is a typical love story we have seen on Indian screen times. The screenplay is poor with unnecessary inclusion of songs cause hindrance to the movement of the film. The director had made sure to make a masala potboiler for front- benchers and creates a senseless caper. Cinematography is eye- catching. Editing could have been better. However , action sequences played by Arjun Kapoor , dialogues with witty one-liners are good. The actor gives good performance with serious tone in his voice. He should probably work on his looks to have conventional hero attitude. Manoj Bajpai does well in the negative role. Sonakshi Sinha is fine.

Overall , if you are longing for some masala potboiler, Tevar is a one-time watch. Otherwise , you might want to skip it. Average 2.5/5

Come to the 21st century, please.
lola-nandez24 April 2022
The movie starts with the big sin of box-office hits wannabe : they think just because two people are attractive they'll have on screen chemistry. This movie proves them wrong. Arjun seems to be forever stuck in an immature caracter that thinks he's really hot but we are not allowed to be annoyed at him cuz deep down he means well. Maybe at the beginning of his career it worked but he's too old for that now. He should really start trying to act at this point of his life. Sonakshi is just what you expect : emotional delivery similar of that of a statue. The songs are not only bad, but the timing is simply wrong every single time. It's actually quite an achievement to be that bad at directing. The action scenes are far too long, and the romance between the main duo feels unbelievable because there aren't moments when they actually talk and grow close. No time for that since we have to see Arjun trying to fight 85 people while Sonakshi stands still at the background during 90% of the movie. The plot is something a 14 yo could come up with, nothing new or interesting. Surprised so many people read the script and went on to aprove it, it's a dull story told a million times already, filled with 19th century old fashioned values.

Tevar Movie Review - 'Filmy Bhaagam Bhaag...'
moviezadda119 January 2015
Expectations: Hindi cinema is popularly known for its mass entertaining films with good blending of songs, dance, romance, action and drama. If made perfectly manner these films are loved by both masses and the classes. Filmmakers like Raj Kapoor, Manmohan Desai, Yash Chopra and many more have enhanced the level of popular films in our Hindi cinema. Along with the makers these films, mainly work due the star charisma of the main lead actor. Right from the Amitabh Bachchan era to the recent times where senior actors like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan and many more the audience love to see their favorite superstar performing the every aspect of the mass entertaining cinema. These actors along with their star power ride high on the conviction factor, which is highly missing in many of the younger actors from today's generation. Though, one can see a positive spark in actors like Varun Dhawan, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. These younger actors look promising and if play their cards perfectly might attain the super stardom required for out and out masala entertainers. Arjun Kapoor started his last year, with masala entertainer 'Gunday' followed by blockbuster hit '2 States' and a sweet film 'Finding Fanny'. After such versatile display of talent, Arjun returns back into the masala entertaining zone with his home production 'Tevar'. So let's find out, whether 'Tevar' will add up as a another milestone for Arjun Kapoor to reach his super stardom or might join the long list of bad and weak remakes we have been recently witnessing in the name of popular masala entertainers.

Story: 'Tevar' is the story of a young and daring Kabbadi player Pintoo (Arjun Kapoor), who loves helping people in distress. One day in order to save a stranger Radhika (Sonakshi Sinha), he ends up beating a political gangster Gajendar Singh (Manoj Bajpayee). Later, Pintoo comes to know that Gajendar Singh wants to marry Radhika and has killed her brother too. Pintoo has no other option than to elope with Radhika and what happens next is what the entire film is all about.

Screenplay & Technicalities: The story, despite being an official remake of a Tamil film 'Okkadu', still has many similarities with films like 'R Rajkumar', 'Run' and most importantly Vidyut Jamwal's 'Commando'. The first half starts on the interesting note with the introduction of the characters, especially the track of Arjun Kapoor. As the movie progresses the novelty factor dries out and keeps dragging till the expected climax with lots of repetitive scenes and melodrama. There are some enjoyable scenes like Arjun fighting goons in the streets of Agra, Arjun eloping with Sonakshi, Manoj warning the crowd, Raj Babber questioning Manoj, Arjun-Manoj fight and few more. In spite of lots of stuffs happening the movie fails to catch up to its momentum mainly due to weak screenplay and lethargic length of the film. The movie should have been strictly trimmed down by twenty minutes and some more dramatic scenes should have been inserted as the soul was highly missing in the second half of the film. The camera work by Laxman Utekar is good and gives a colorful feel to the film.

Music & Direction: Music of such types of films has to be popular, but in case of 'Tevar', except for the 'Superman' song none of the songs are popular nor enjoyable. 'Radha Nachegi', 'Madamiyan' and 'Let's Celebrate' could have been avoided. 'Main Nai Jaana' and 'Joganiyan' goes well with the flow of the film. Director Amit Sharma debuts with something which has been seen end numbers of times. He tries hard to add up the small detailing in this film (Kabbadi, small streets, festivals, fairs, dialect, etc.) due to which, despite of being a repetitive product, the film looks fresh in a certain manner. Thanks to the sensibilities of Amit Sharma, 'Tevar' does not end up being another trash in lines of films like 'Action Jackson' or 'Policigiri'. If only would had he focused more on the screenplay along with the length of the film the movie would have ended up being an above average product.

Performances: Arjun Kapoor looks great and has full conviction factor, especially in the action scenes. He needs to get the right types of films and proper directors to explore his hidden talent and potential. Sonakshi Sinha is better than her worst performance in 'Action Jackson' as she has nothing much other than running to do in the film. Manoj Bajpayee is good in his role, but again, it reminds you many of his earlier performances. Raj Babber lends good support. Subratt Dutta is fine in his part. Deepti Naval and Rajesh Sharma are wasted. Shruti Hassan lacks the item girl power.

Final Verdict: So bol meri "FILMI KHOPDI" iss film mein kitna hain Dumb? Dumb? Well, it's not a bad film, but it also has nothing new to offer. The movie works mainly due to the conviction level of Arjun Kapoor with decent support from Manoj Bajpayee and Raj Babber. Though, the stale script, super lengthy duration and predictable story line work against the favor of the film. The movie is like a filmy bhaagam bhaag, where a small kid too knows that everything will happen only in the end of the film and the rest is mostly a waste of time.

Would have been 100 crore movie if it was one of three Khans
baljitg6 May 2015
Finally watched it on DVD, I thought it would have been a bad movie but surprise surprise it was not that bad at all. If the story would have been same and you would change the actor from Arjun Kapoor to Salman, Amir or Shah Rukh Khan it would have grossed over 100 crore and the IMDb rating would have been 8.2 rather than 4.1.

This goes to show the mentality of Indian Audience who only go for the star power. The acting by Arjun Kapoor is not bad, I have not seen the Tamil version so cannot compare with Mahesh Babu. Manoj Bajpay did fantastic job in this movie. He deserves best villain award for this movie.

Good masala movie for young generation

I watched movie after two days of release. mostly comments were negative. but due to its songs I watched the movie and I really loved this movie. story is old but presentation is really great. Arjun Kapoor did a excellent work. Manoj Vajpai was great. He got the full marks and he is the life of movie. Sonkshi Sinha is average. Raj Babbar didn't get time to show his acting skills. I must say if you want a masala movie then you should watch this. Don't go on bad comments every movie can't be "PK". This type of movie are also good and this movie did really great in this category. Songs are good and of all moods. Shruti Hassan looked stunning in item number. Direction is upto mark. Bony kapoor made a good movie for his son. it will definitely add a milestone in his career. from-Prashant Gupta www.caprashant.in

Surprised at the low ratings for a very good movie

Tevar is the quintessential Bollywood flick with all the usual ingredients - romance, music, dance, emotion and action. The difference is that these ingredients are very expertly packaged. Excellent direction, excellent acting by every single actor (including those with minor roles), excellent editing and great music. I have lost count of the number of times I have seen it. If you like Bollywood movies, you must see this one.
