Great retrospective on a bizarre and very sexy cult film
bazmitch239 April 2015
The doc starts off with the rise of Cannon Films and what films they had made.

We learn about Tobe Hopper's 3 picture deal with Cannon (this movie, Invaders From Mars and Texas Chainsaw 2) and sadly all three of those movies flopped.

We learn about the difficult casting of the Space Girl (about 50 actresses were up for the role and how Mathilda May fit the bill) and of course, filming sexy Mathilda's nude scenes. Many crew members showed up to watch her even though they were not meant to be there.

The make up artist said that the original person who worked with Mathilda was a 70 year old man who didn't get along with her so he was replaced by two woman. One of the women had the pleasure of trimming her muff everyday.

Most of the crew claimed that Mathilda couldn't speak English very well, although some of them said she could.

The crew talk about working with Tobe (or "Tobe" as they called him. Their way of pronouncing it rhymes with "robe"), Aubrey Morris tries to do a Tobe impression (even though he just sounds like himself) and then apologises "Forgive my American accent."

My biggest problem with this doc is that it is heard to understand most of the 70 year old crew members cos their accents were so thick. The worst being the sound designer. "To make the sound, I got a tin of pop with an umbrella......."

I can see why this doc was not on the Scream Factory release.

The effects, one of the matte painters said that he had to design the aliens' spaceship to look like a giant dick.

Then the film's original title from "Space Vampires" to "Lifeforce". I prefer the latter.

Finally they talk about how the movie failed and got bad reviews, but how it got resurrected on video.

Lackluster documentary for a blockbuster movie.

As this is only available on the region 2 bluray as an extra feature, we in North America had to find another way to watch it. And where did I find it? On YouTube of all places. So here I am all ready to watch this documentary on one of my favorite movie, and it was a letdown. Many interviews were just dull to listen to. Even Tobe seemed uninterested. Steve and Mathilda were absent, and only 1 actor was interviewed. Should have been better. Very disappointed.
