Grinding never looked better...
residentgrigo14 May 2016
Ubisoft decided to jump on the loot-shooter-bandwagon but they had no idea how to brand the game so a Tom Clancy stamp it is. The game is thus as identity-deprived as one would expect, yet i have to acknowledge the exceptional production value. The Winter-Wonderland meets DMZ look is always worth a second glance yet the same can't be said about the actually shooter gameplay. The combo of knee-high walls, bullet sponge enemies and grinding isn't the most fun of formulas. Going through the motions has thus never looked better and i soon started to ask myself why i wasn't playing Destiny or Borderlands instead. I will admit that i have interest to see the From Software-esque Dark Zone concept explored further and a sequel could pull an Assassins Creed and fire on full cylinder next time but i will wait until that day to give this, admitted successful, franchise another go. The game is best enjoyed with a dedicated team, which can be a double edged sword. 6,5/10

Average game done good
85122227 April 2016
Greetings from Lithuania.

"The Division" (2016) is probably the first game i have ever bought right on it's release. I own like 5 legal games to say honestly (Diablo 3 included). I paid 41 EUR for it. When the first reviews came out just a couple of days before buying this game, they were all raving about how brilliant this game is. So after spending 103 hours in it (currently as i'm writing this review), i can safely say to You - this isn't a brilliant game. This isn't even a great game. "The Division" is a very average game made at it best. This is it - "The Division" is average game done at it's very best. By this time patch for incursion has already have been made. At this time i have done 100% story, i have done every single side quest, every encounter and found all collectibles. My current gear status is 190.

While i loved the main plot, the way it is presented in this game is below average. Each and every dialog in this game is absolutely average. Every phone recording is very uninvolving. The videos were OK. The main story is presented not interestingly at all. The characters in this game are below average. I couldn't remember their names nor who they were - i just didn't really care.

The shooting mechanics are very good in here. Shotouts are excellent, you can even feel some "Heat" like shootouts in the middle of downtown. Loot is also great. There are tons talent, perks and etc. So RPG mechanics are the highlight of this game. Music was OK, nothing special, as well as voice acting. This game in some sort reminded my of Diablo 3 - after you beat everything, there is also much of re playability here, because after you will finish main story, new possibilities for new gear are there.

The other very good thing about this game is "The Dark Zone". Basically this is PVP arena where you can shoot other agents and pick-up their loot, or what it's most fun about it you can go with friend to shoot tough enemies (or kill some rogue agents) to find some great loot. This place itself is the probably the highlight of this game. At each and every step you can feel tension, because in order to own loot found it this zone you have to extract it first - just don't think that other players won't have an idea of shooting you during the extraction or earlier - this is in our nature. "The Dark Zone" is the place where "The Division" truly shines.

Overall, "The Division" is kinda mixed bag for me. While the story didn't work at all, and there are many many things that could have been done much, much better, still this is a good game. Not great by any means (so far at least, because there are still 2 major expansions on the way). The main ingredients for excellent online based RPG shooter are here, and as goes for shooting itself, RPG elements and loot they are pretty great. But everything else (especialy quest, storytelling) are average at their best. I can't recommend to buy this game right now, probably wait for half or even a year, after Ubisoft will deliver every patch and expansion and the price will drop, then yes, it will be experience worth the lower price. Still, this isn't a letdown, this is fun game, which could have been so much better.

Fighting your way through the streets of a post apocalyptic New York City with ongoing actions of new updates and variety of playstyles with new game modes added to the storyline missions including new Gear & Exotic sets, but with a small downside to micro-transactions to buy Exclusive clothes, skins, & emotes Best game of 2017

Great Game...

If you like shooting things this game is great. The mechanics, the graphics and the sound all stack up in a Christmas winter environment. Beautiful to look at and enough stuff to keep you playing for months.

A very good loot RPG with some awful design choices.

The Division may at first glance look like your typical cover system third-person shooter, but it has many RPG aspects that give it the edge. Tons of skills to use, weapons, armor, this game in terms of customization is exquisite. Shamefully, the game has several balance problems that remind me of other games of this style such as Horizon Zero Dawn or Patapon 3 (not as bad thankfully), where the recommended level of the mission is often false, and they blow you up despite exceeding it by far, the abusive grinding, or some enemies, even if they arent bosses, sometimes turn into bullet sponges, even enemies that don't seem to have any protection are inexplicably tough, and you have to shoot them like 50 rifle magazines down on their heads, while you could die with two or three shoots.

Apart from the balancing problems, I also have to present my complaints to the Dark Zone mode, which although it is very fun, it becomes a grinding mess to get the best equipment, besides that at a narrative level it does not make any sense. Why in an apocalypse would people stay in an area to fight for weapons and armor just to want to be stronger?

Despite all the criticism, The Division is a very addictive game, and that is why I give it a pretty high score, along with the great customization value, they give hours and hours of replayability. I was close to giving it a 6, but it was fun enough to give it a 7.

A true review
mailgamingu18 January 2022
The map is sectioned off into areas based on your current level or at least that's the common sense they are pretending to have. It doesn't matter if your level 15 and go back to level 3-5 zone to finish some side quests. They will place a legendary level 15 boss that's so over powered you cannot run away fast enough to not die if he sees you. So, what could have been great is destroyed by some idiot design and kept that way still by the same. I really wanted to love this game as I have most T. C. games. I really hope the division 2 hired someone with an IQ higher than a rock for it's game design. After giving a truthful review Ubisoft has blocked the digital division game I bought from playing. What a bunch of tools.

Beautiful yet repetitive
Heartburnt_Kid10 July 2021
Being an Ubisoft game the graphics are mesmerizing because of its careful attention to city details and rich snowy environment.

However, being an Ubisoft game it also has its problems with content quality. Story seems unimpressive, nothing much to remember. It feels like it is there just so the game can be advertised to have a campaign. Your character doesn't say anything, it looks more like you're controlling an NPC. A proper character that cares about city's inhabitants would be enough, unfortunately we have to spend 40ish hours with this faceless robot.

Difficulty is only measured in length of health bars and the quantity of enemy spawns. Gadgets and special weapons, which I hoped the gameplay was primary about, are used only for the 1/10 of combat time, the rest of the shootout feels like a boring gun fight against damage sponge enemies.

It's a game that mainly focuses on exploring the city and finding various loots.

Single player review
strizbiz-9942916 August 2022
So this isn't for the multiplayer part of the game, this is regarding the single player mode, which is for the most part , pretty bad. First of all I've played Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell years back, I didn't like the gameplay as far as the controller goes then and I still don't. Moving your character around just feels Awkward and clumsy compared to call of duty, with The Division you can't really duck down when you run, only when you find something the hide behind and even then there's just a certain lack of freedom of movement.

Getting to the game itself, a lot 0f it is very non intuitive and you really don't know what some of the things you are collecting is for, but besides that, for the most part you are hopelessly out maned and out gunned, and pretty much don't have armor to outlast the endless onslaught of enemies, and it takes only a few hits from the enemies to kill you vs how many it takes to kill them. There are medkits that are unreliable half the time and sometimes you get back up in the game buts it's pretty much for show as they really aren't any help, to be honest it's fun for a little while but then it gets repetitive, and even though you're moving up in levels it doesn't really feel like it because the number of enemies seem to increase but your character doesn't seem to get stronger, or rather you easily die no matter what, even if you're say level 12 but go do a mission on a part of the map that's level 5 or 8. Anyway at this point I'm definitely not interested in continuing playing. I'll check out division 2 and see if the developer has made any improvements or learned anything.

Repetition is the Name of the Game

Go here, push a button and wait to be attacked by forces. Go there push a button...

Pretty much the same thing over and over.

Repetitive and tooo much fights
AvionPrince165 April 2022
The open world is really interesting and we have a lot of things to explore but the gameplay in the fights are terribly repetitive and boring. The first two hours are incredible but after a few moments the game become too much repetitive and its the same thing over and over. Maybe more interesting with some friends.
