- The murder of a young boy in the small town of Gracepoint brings accusations and a nationwide media frenzy, which threatens to tear the community apart.
- Seasoned detective Emmett Carver is hired, despite a tainted episode in San Francisco, as chief detective in northern Californian small beach town Gracepoint, instead of local police detective Ellie Miller. Their first case is the death, a staged cliff jump 'suicide' after a stump trauma, of Danny Solano, pre-teen class buddy of Ellie's son, who secretly tries to delete all traces of their recent contacts. Local newspaper reporter Owen deduces the victim' identity and tips off a San Francscio major newspaper.—KGF Vissers
- The show as presented on first watch is subtle. There's a boy, crying. A mother wakes up, is surprised her son's lunch was left behind. Her husband wanders through town greeting everyone. A happy woman returns from vacation to find her anticipated promotion, implicitly offered because she's a woman, is gone because they hired an out-of-towner. She cries on the phone about it. Behaves extremely unprofessionally in various ways that indicate that the writers want to make certain the audience agrees that she really did not deserve the promotion. The male lead is a kind of bland dead zone. If the only thing the producers are relying upon is David Tennant's name, I think the show needs to up its game.
In short, the first episode presents the mystery, introduces us to a varied cast who might be responsible, even to the murdered boy's best friend, and to make certain we don't turn away just because it's badly written and annoying, you can go to a special URL set up and put your two cents in on which character you think may be the murderer.
