- A birdwatcher is discovered murdered in the Saint-Marie jungle.
- A group of bird watchers are on the island to see its rare green parrots and one of them, Mark Talbot, is murdered with his hunting knife. Talbot was not a popular group member, another visitor Alec Burton threatening to kill him whilst his wife was having an affair with journalist Dan parish and is now a very wealthy widow. The most mystifying aspect of the case is the fact that the victim was only out of sight of the others for a few seconds before his corpse was found but Goodman works out the relevance of Talbot's walking cane and a single sock to solving the murder.—don @ minifie-1
- DI Goodman and the team investigate the murder of Mark Talbot, who is found with a knife in his back. Talbot was part of an organized bird watching tour with 3 other participants and 2 staffers from the tour company. Their goal was to find he very rare Sainte Marie Green parrot. The others include Alec Burton who had previously argued with Talbot and even threatened to kill him; Matt Webster, a professional photographer who had been on previous trips with Talbot; Daniel Parish a freelance journalist; tour guides Captain Jack Stanton, who is well known on the island and Yasmin Blake, a seasonal employee. Talbot's wife Gloria is also on the island but has an iron-clad alibi. DI Goodman initially suspects Burton but then learns that Gloria was not only going to inherit a large sum but was having an affair with one of the others. A discarded cane and a single clean sock are the vital clues that lead to the killer.—garykmcd
- Arrogant Mark Talbot rushed ahead of the rest of his group of tourist bird watchers to see the island's rare green parrot's nests first, but was beaten to death in the jungle habitat with bis own fancy cane. It looks like neither of his peers, nor the tour company staff of his wife, who stayed in a hotel had opportunity. DI Goodman's team finds several possible motives but wrestles with the means.—KGF Vissers
