Lost among the slew of high-profile broadcast comedy pilots this season were two low-budget pilots/presentations created by and starring up-and-coming comedians few had heard of, Cristela Alonzo and Jerrod Carmichael. Ten days before the start of the upfronts, many of those big-budget, big-name pilots have fallen by the wayside. But the Cristela Alonzo and Jarrod Carmichael projects are still standing. Both have exceeded expectations, both have been very well received and both are in contention for a series pickup. Alonzo’s semi-autobiographical Cristela, from 20th TV and studio-based 21 Laps/Adelstein, has been a true Cinderella story. It was sold to ABC last summer with penalty. But with several high-profile multi-camera sitcoms landing pilot orders at the network, including two from 20th TV, The Winklers starring Henry Winkler, and the untitled Kevin Hart project, Cristela didn’t make the cut. However, the producers, who also are behind ABC’s Last Man Standing,...

Related: Pilots 2014: Early Buzz Edition Every year, there is at least one pilot that comes out of nowhere and surprises everyone. We may have that this season in ABC‘s multi-camera Cristela. It was not even supposed to be a pilot. Developed at 20th TV-based 21 Laps/Adelstein for more than a year, the semi-autobiographical project co-created by and starring rising Latina stand-up comedian Cristela Alonzo was sold to ABC last summer with significant penalty. But when pilot-pickup time came along, ABC quickly loaded on high-profile sitcoms, including the 20th TV-produced The Winklers,...

As Glee prepares for their 100th episode, they’re saying goodbye to Lima – for now. And the creative team is looking forward to telling more grownup stories for the adults of the cast, especially Kurt and Blaine. Executive Producer Brad Falchuk says he likes “seeing that relationship get tested and strengthened and sort of the adult version of those characters having real conversations about stuff and really making adult choices. They’re really having fun together.”
For someone like me, who really doesn’t like people, Cloak is the perfect app. It keeps track of your friends’ locations via Foursquare and Instagram so you can avoid running into them. Now if my friends were just more connected.

The earthquake that shook Southern California on Monday morning posed a practical problem for actress Eva Amurri Martino: hair care. It was all hands on deck as mom Susan Sarandon helped wash Amurri Martino's locks in the kitchen sink - and husband Kyle Martino stood by to capture their resourceful beauty routine. Eva Amurri Martino and Domenick Lombardozzi have joined The Winklers, Henry Winkler's semi-autobiographical new sitcom. The show revolves around the real-life relationship between Henry and his son-in-law Rob Reinis. Amurri will play Henry's daughter Emily, who is described by Deadline as "spoiled" and "somewhat controlling." So just so we're clear: Henry Winkler's sitcom daughter, who is ostensibly modeled on his actual daughter, is "spoiled" and "somewhat controlling." Won't his real-life daughter find that insulting? It's not like you can elbow her like a jukebox and make her get over it, Henry. This is real life.
