Interesting Concept
adigarg9424 October 2014
I'm going to start with discrediting the person who wrote a review on this title after watching one single episode. Stop lashing out, this is a good show with potential. It shows a serious issue. Stalking is increasingly becoming a problem specially in todays world with the advent of social media.

This show portrays the psychological state of stalkers and why they do what they do. It has action, a little bit of comedy and a lot of darkness. But it constantly keeps me guessing what comes next.

I like the characters. Maggie Q has always been my absolute favorite and she is stunning in this show. So is Dylan. Their back stories are intriguing. The supporting cast seems pretty rad too!

I think this show should deal more with stalkers and not confuse them with serial killers/murderers. In all if you've got time, its a good show to watch. If it is VCR record worthy will be known after we get midway into the season but for now I am placing my bets on Stalker.

Good acting, good premise, interesting characters and mysterious plots.

I'm looking forward to more....

When you aren't trying to compare this to other crime shows, which it isn't, and watch it as it is intended, you'll find it is really well put together. I didn't care who directed it, wrote it, or what thev've done previously, so my judgment wasn't clouded by expectations of what it "will be like". I just am enjoying what it is.

Maggie Q is awesome at both hard and fragile sides to her character as is Dylan McDermott. I loved Mariana Klaveno in True Blood, so I'm expecting big things from her here as well.

The plots so far have been well thought out, believable and very creeper, creepy. If you've ever worried about being followed or foot shadows at your door at night, this is the show for you.

Stalker is worth the viewer's time
rnixon19744 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I started watching this after two episodes had already been broadcast. Had to play catchup with on-demand from my cable provider.

The show works for what it does, and is. These cops are chasing stalkers, and that entails a dark atmosphere that puts many base, irrational (and sometimes homicidal) human urges on display. The show is on at 10:00 pm for good reason.

Maggie Q is the team lead Beth Davis, a strong woman and a good cop. As well, there is a haunted quality to the character, as the audience learns as the show proceeds. It comes out, in time, that Beth herself has been stalked.

Maggie is more of an action heroine, in my opinion. She is asked to portray someone similar to Mariska Hargitay's character in Law and Order SVU. I think Olivia Benson may have been an archetype for Beth Davis. The CBS writers could have done far worse, if this is indeed the case.

If you want a show that mostly keeps it light, watch Castle. If you want NCIS and all the head slapping that comes with that show, by all means, keep Mark Harmon and company in the well paid manner to which they have become accustomed.

If you want something as dark as Law and Order SVU, with a bit of a twist... give this a shot.

One last point. The network has ordered a full season of the show. Someone was apparently trolling the IMDb.com boards saying the show had already been canceled.

Tim Surette at the site TV.com has an article showing this order.

Such a pity no season 2
vkforeversladja14 August 2017
Having seen so many TV shows so far, I still can't believe THIS ONE wasn't renewed for a second season. Such an amazing show, actors are perfect, not to mention good-looking, all of them, but like I said, more importantly, SO good at acting and, I mean, the way the story is developed... it's just WOW. I really don't understand how some stupid, bad quality shows stay on TV for such a long time and this one doesn't get to stay.

Ignore the negativity.
www-matthewbell13 November 2014
I'll keep it short, because Stalker is definitely a show to be enjoyed. There are a lot of negative reviews, and I'm a little surprised. While Stalker, as a police procedural anyway, is nothing original, it's a refreshing change to the genre. The writing isn't as bad as is being depicted, and the dark and gritty surrealism of the show is quite enjoyable. Add in strong actors, in particular the shows lead Maggie Q, and you have an extremely enjoyable show. The chemistry on screen is also solid, and for a show that's just started, I'm thoroughly engrossed. It's something to be given the benefit of the doubt, and to see how well it handles its material in the long run.

Informative, Intriguing & A Little Bit Dangerous
JasonDanielBaker2 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
New York Detective Jack Larsen (Dylan McDermott) relocates to Los Angeles and joins a special squad led by icy Detective Beth Davis (Maggie Q) which investigates serious cases of stalking. The two don't exactly hit it off but quickly come to respect each other's expertise in hunting stalkers.

Where the show diverges from a normal police procedural is in exploring personal habits of each protagonist which evoke behaviours of the people they deal with on cases.

Larsen is stalking his ex Amanda (Elisabeth Rohm) and her son which he believes to be his. This is the reason for his transfer from one coast to another. He has followed the woman and her child to Los Angeles but has, for obvious, concealed his true motives to the police department and his new partner Davis.

Davis is less overt with Larsen and with the audience but it seems pretty clear she was the victim of a stalker. Her victimization has had the effect of giving her empathy with victims of such crime whilst also giving her darker impulses the motive to victimize stalkers by means both legal and illegal.

Unlike most network shows we have edgier heroes in this series which make it more like a cable show - audiences of which network TV is struggling to win back. Much of the hyperbole and vitriol directed at the comes in reaction to the violence and the darker aspects of the main characters.

It would be cynical to suggest that allies of opposing TV networks might formulate a campaign to discredit the show on the grounds that the gender of many of the victims could invite accusations of pandering to misogyny.

Cynicism is normal in considering both why some shows are on the air and why some get the criticism they do. The viewer can judge for themselves rather than avoiding programs based solely on the assertions presented by others.

Jury still out

Warning: Spoilers
I hate Dylan McDermott's character, He's supposed to be part of the stalker squad but he's stalking his ex-lover because he thinks her child is his. There are plenty of legal things he could do to see his son, stalking is not the answer given what he does for a living. Between that and his characterization, he doesn't (to me) have a whole lot of redeeming qualities.

I like Maggie Q and have ever since I saw her in the Die Hard movie. I was glad to see she got a lead role like this one. My problem has to do with the writers. She supposedly has been stalked before herself, and yet she lives in a home with see-through curtains; waits to close the curtains the first time we see her in her house until after she's gotten ready for bed; the window locks are child's play and the chain on the door is an absolute joke. I've never been stalked and I take more precautions. I know she's a cop with a gun and can handle herself, but if she's gripping a chair with her nails while listening to a stalking report, she's not over it and she's not going to live in a place she can't button up and black out peepers.

Over all the show is one I'm willing to give at least another episode or two. Handled right, it could be the next Criminal Minds - but Dylan's character has to be overhauled. He's no Thomas Gibson.

Addictive show
kimba1178-125 February 2015
This show is really well written. It's fascinating if you give it a real chance. I'm actually not someone who generally likes dark stories at all. This is better than a lot of hit shows on TV right now. I understand that the first episode may shock a few people feeling that it's harsh, but stalking does take place. Stalker is not any more violent then most police shows on television. The actors do a great job and the casting choices were spot on. The stories unfold in a way that you care about each of the characters. Folks I know who like Scandal or the Blacklist are all into this. Yes, those are both different types of shows, but the quality is the same. Try it. It's addictive.

Good Will Stalking...And Some Bad.
AudioFileZ2 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Stalker, as a subject matter, holds great promise for a TV-series. Stalker the actual TV-series seems to be trying too hard to make a big splash. The initial scene is an gasoline drenched murder, by, you guessed it, a young woman's stalker. It is actually a fairly sadistic trap, if rather "wam, bam" and over. Seemingly, this is also to make a point: this show is about some seriously evil sick bastards.

Time to meet the the characters. Maggie Q (fashion model cum actress, usually not a good combo) plays detective Beth Davis who is head of the, yes you're good, LA Staking Unit. A silly lecture (college students at some institution?) introduces viewers to her. I didn't like this scene because it was staged in a silly way and the cream of the brightest minds asked stupid questions shouting over one another. Next the show segues into the morning after the gas murder. Flat, rude, and flat come to mind as detective's personality is purposely without emotion (flat), cold to a fault (rude), and she's proud she doesn't need to wear a bra (flat).

Just as this is sinking in comes new transplanted detective Jack Larsen played by Dylan McDermott. After the mandatory "un-welcome" by detective Davis we quickly see this guy is the new Sherlock Holmes who can deduce a complex profile of a victim by osmosis or some skill set. Too bad he's immediately unlikeable because even though Sherlock Holmes was a bit of a narcissist at least he was lovable. This was not unlike the character trait of McDermott's last role in the one-season show Hostages, only is seemed much necessary there. The two other people under detective Davis are glossed over, though the somewhat attractive woman wants to throw herself on detective Larsen, apparently. Please.

In what seems like being beat over the head viewers are "forced" to get that detective Davis doesn't like detective Larsen, but when she goes through her own nightly ritual she has to give him credit for his superb criminal intuition. It seems detective Davis is not only a stalking specialist, but maybe she does this because this is her own personal fear - but how she handles her fears may be deeply rooted even more than her career choice and nightly protocol of sealing herself in? There's plot holes, but the good is that the story here (and each week?) moves so fast it keeps the viewer invested. While fast the details of who is involved in the crime comes slower and linearly. Again, this keeps one interested. Surprisingly, this fast/slow method works better than the quick character intros. And sure, you guessed it again, there's much more to the main characters of Beth and Jack. In the last minutes much is revealed. Beth is pro-active when she's not on duty in a bit of stalking herself, confronting perps head on if you will, fearlessly even. And Jack? Well, his move to LA was due to some "mistakes" he made. He had an affair, he lost his family, and he wants to be close to where his ex moved so he can once more have a relationship with his son. He might be more sympathetic than arrogant, but that remains to be seen.

This is network TV. It needs to move differently than HBO or Showtime series, and it does. It started pedestrian, though with an excellent premise of exploring the criminal behavior of abhorrent stalkers. It was quick to give payoffs which kept one watching, and it got better. It isn't clear if this is going to be even a good series at this point, but I'm going to keep watching to see and you should too.

A review from a fan :)
bffever82019 February 2015
First, I want to make something known. I am in no way an expert at reviewing television or movies. I am simply typing my opinion of a show that I would love to see receive a second season. There are rumors of a cancellation, and I must say that I would be extremely upset to see that happen. This show provides viewers with a fast paced action base, with touches of drama. It really keeps a viewer on his or her toes, and albeit sometimes a bit predictable, there is usually a jump scare that I never see coming! I have always enjoyed crime dramas on television, but before stalker, I have never wanted to keep up with one as much! I am writing this review after watching season 1 episode 17 (Which I believe is the season 1 finale). The finale was a bit more elaborate than the rest of the season so far, and DEFINITELY calls for a second season. The plot of this show is spectacular, tracing a different stalking case each episode as well as following the private and work lives of four LAPD detectives. Be warned, the show can be quite violent, and that would be my primary criticism because it can be a bit much at times but it makes up for that with the suspenseful nature, and dramatic moments. If you are a fan of Kevin Williamson's other productions, or fancy a dramatic crime drama that delves into crazy stalking cases, I would recommend this one. I am hoping that CBS decides to renew Stalker for a second season and bring back this exciting new show. The cast is fabulous! Props to Dylan McDermott, Maggie Q, Victor Rasuk, and Mariana Klaveno especially. Also, the sound effects and music help the show reach extraordinary levels of suspense/drama. I am extremely happy I decided to start watching this show! See you all(hopefully) next season! -P

Looking forward...
janicegarey11 October 2014
The plot is really good, Dylan McDermott will be the reason for the success if it works. He seems to be a real cop. The idea that he too is a stalker makes it more interesting. Maggie Q and the blond (whoever she is) need to button up their blouses and ditch the 4 inch heels. It looks silly and inappropriate, as any real cop will tell you. Maggie Q as well as Elizabeth Rhom's characters are going to be interesting. Each appears to be a Stepford wife with plastic faces. Elizabeth does a good job being a cold hard-hearted ex. It reminds me of when she was on Law & Order. I like the way Jack (Dylan) role plays, interesting character for him. I'm looking forward to seeing it several times, maybe I'll like the rest of the cast after all, not just Dylan.

Love this show!
Drucilly4 May 2015
I absolutely love this show! and I was very upset to find out that it might get canceled! ;/ Why cancel something so awesome and renew something so crappy as NCIS New Orleans? I mean COMMON! We already have a NCIS several actually.

This show shows a serious issue and how to deal with it. It's well done! and the actors are awesome! I love Maggie Q! This show makes my heart skip several beats and my heart is often in my throat because it's so damn exciting! It's Ringer all over again! That show was also awesome, I felt my interest totally occupied with that show just as it does with Stalker. Whenever I watch other things I get easily distracted by my computer or even my phone! Pleas let stalker be!

A little underwhelmed
mrmungo9 October 2014
It's not bad at all. In fact there are moments when you are hooked, but those moments don't last very long.

Every year late summer time, I read all about the new shows, and this was the one that striked me as "must must must watch!". The premise is good, and it has/had a lot of potential but just get the feeling that the show has underachieved.

There are no characters that are likable, to be honest. If any of them got killed off in the next episode, I wouldn't give two hoots. That is one area where it falls apart.

It also feels a bit too much like a Criminal Minds spin-off, and not really any better than the spin-off that got cancelled after a dozen episodes or so. I half expect Spencer to come strolling into the office at some point, but not been that lucky, as of yet.

I'll keep watching for a little while to see what the secret is all about, but truth be told, I wouldn't be surprised to see this cancelled before the season is out.

Is this show trying to be ridiculous? If so, it deserves 10 stars!
jmcgil222 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This show suffers from ridiculous dialogue, exaggerated plot lines and cookie cutter characters. I have no idea where the high IMDb ratings came from, because this show is so awful.

SPOILER!!!!!! (specific review of the first episode)

For example, the scene where the new detective (McDermott) is assigned to the stalking squad. It's his first day on the job and he is asked by his new superior (Maggie Q, playing the 'seen it a million times' tough, loner cop character) why he chose this particular unit. He answers "I was hoping to meet Scarlett Johansson." He doesn't seem to notice her disgusted reaction, and continues with jokes about training for the job by watching Fatal Attraction and other stalker films. NO ONE could be this stupid, especially a decorated detective!

But apparently he IS that stupid, because afterward he asks his new superior why she doesn't like him, and wonders aloud if maybe it was because he was staring at her chest earlier. In his defense, he explains that he really thought that she would be flattered that he was staring at her chest, because she was wearing red nail polish. Um, what???

The plot line of the first episode is equally ridiculous. It has 2 ordinary guys with good jobs (and who barely know each other), come together to stalk 2 different girls. They murder one girl and try to kill the other - by dousing them with gasoline and setting them on fire. This isn't stalking, and I guess that the show writers can't come up with an original idea, because it looks like a storyline right out of Criminal Minds.

As if the show wasn't ridiculous enough already, you find out at the end of the first episode that the new detective to the stalking unit is a stalker himself. Yep! In fact that is why he took the new job, to be in the same city as the woman he is stalking.

If this show trying to be ridiculous, then it deserves 10 stars. Otherwise, they should cancel it and put it out of its misery as soon as possible.

***UPDATE***

Since I reviewed the show after only a single episode, I decided to give it another chance in case my opinion was too perfunctory. Unfortunately the second episode is not any better and confirms my original impression. McDermott's character is as creepy and oblivious as ever, and the storyline of the second episode was just as ridiculous as the first. As other reviewers have mentioned, the "stalkers" on this show are in fact murderers and kidnappers, so their cases would never be assigned to the stalker unit. The unit would also be investigating multiple cases at once, instead of assigning all of their agents to one case - imagine the backlog! There are also spontaneous confessions of the guilty parties which never happen in real life. This show is made for gullible teenagers - if that isn't you I'd skip it.

Just watched the third episode
pankaiwenplay16 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't really have any strong feelings either way about the show until the third episode. Granted, Maggie Q is the main reason for my watching Stalker in the first place. But the latest episode really explores much deeper into the life of Jack Larsen (by Dylan McDermott). The last scene with Jack standing outside the windows watching (stalking?) his ex-wife was sensitive and moving to the point where I was on the verge of tearing- up. Without spoiling anything, the episode also disclosed some dynamics about the lead the actors/actresses that made viewers want to delve straight into the next episode because the plot would likely be very intriguing. So far, it is a great show and I hope the next episodes won't disappoint either.

It honestly is amazing to me that the show like the bachelor gets season after season but a actual good show like stalker gets only 1 damn season!! Do people just not know good tv and would really rather watch the other? I mean I know the show has been cancelled for a few years now it just STILL makes me mad that good t.v. shows are being cancelled for shows like that bachelor and the all the 200 singing shows that we need for some reason. I really miss this show 😡

A typical police drama where STALKING is confused with SERIAL KILLING.
Dr_Sagan6 October 2014
This is one of the newest additions in police dramas for 2014. It is about a (fictional as far as I know) police unit who deals with stalkers and their victims.

It stars Maggie Q, an actress known for her credits in action movies and TV-series and Dylan McDermott, in two pretty standard roles for such series.

The first thing you might wonder by watching this series is if it really describes stalking i.e. the unwanted and even obsessive attention by an individual for another person.

In this series, so far, the stalkers can't be really distinguished from serial killers or other paranoid criminals.

I only imagined stalkers as shady persons hiding in the bushes, watching silhouettes behind a curtain in a bedroom! Taking the occasional photo maybe.

But this series goes to the realm of schizophrenia and mad killing sprees and reckless suicidal behavior, far far away from the regular harassment a stalker might cause.

Anyway. If you pass how truthful is this with its title, you get a standard police drama. Nothing impressive, nothing to actually hate.

Overall: There are more interesting shows out there, but if you have the time check it out and decide.

Stalked and put down by the PC police.
m-478268 June 2021
The reactions people, mostly critics, had with this show. Was disproportionate and ridiculous. It never intended to victimize women or other nonsense I've read on the internet. On the contrary even. The premise was great, but the series arc needed to be fleshed out more. Which it would've probably happened, had it was given a chance for a second season. You had all of Williamson's work wrapped into one. From Scream to The Following. And plethoras of popular TV actresses making their cameos, as supporting roles or cases of the week. The main mystery involving Q's character, reminded me a lot of the the Profiler series. And I was here for it. In fact, the show was like a re-reading of that series, only black bolded by the « right thinking » crowd. And never got to show its true potential...

Ignore the early reviews
pk187318 February 2015
If you are checking out the reviews you will notice that the earlier ones are very negative at times about gratuitous violence against women in this show, if the reviewers had actually bothered to wait until they had seen a couple of episodes before judging they would come to realise that men get their fair share of gratuitous violence against them too. Is the show violent.. yes, but no more violent than many other 10pm shows. The ongoing narrative is good, the 'case of the week' is diverse and in many instances a bit different from the majority of what has gone before in the cop genre. Stalker certainly delivers some proper edge of the seat moments. Don't let the one episode wonders who seem to know everything on day one put you off, this is good TV.

Needs to work on the character development
Shopaholic353 June 2015
This show initially really interested me but unfortunately it hasn't been as entertaining as I would have hoped. Although the concept is good and overall the episodes are decent I just can't help but notice the shortcomings. For one thing some of the character backstories are rather odd and don't feel natural. They are too far fetched and a bit too melodramatic. Perhaps if they had let the drama unfold slowly instead of cramming everything into the first few episodes it would have been more believable. Right now they are all just completely dysfunctional and aggressive.

As a whole Stalker is full of suspense with lots of twists and turns. It's a solid idea and there's plenty of potential to develop into a really great show. The characters need to be worked on as they are not particularly charismatic at this stage even with the super talented cast but with time I believe it can only get better.

Deserved a second season.
itscat_xx19 May 2017
I literally just finished watching and thought this show was great, I don't get any of the negative reviews. It was thrilling, creepy and very Kevin Williamson. It's a shame it wasn't given a chance at a second season especially considering how it ended. I'd much rather watch this than the many season of reality shows like the Kardarshians and The Bachelor series!

dark and creepy police procedural
SnoopyStyle19 April 2015
Beth Davis (Maggie Q) leads the Threat Assessment Unit of LAPD detectives investigating stalkers. She was a victim of a stalker. Jack Larsen (Dylan McDermott) is a new transfer from NYPD Homicide. He has followed Deputy District Attorney Amanda Taylor (Elisabeth Röhm) to LA to stay close to the their son. Ben Caldwell and Janice Lawrence are the two other members of the small unit. They investigate college kid victim Perry Whitley who turns out to be mentally unstable and fixates on Beth after she threatens him.

This is actually pretty good for a police procedural. It's dark, creepy and a little scary. Both Maggie Q and McDermott are good in this. I really like the Perry Whitley character. He is a clingy weirdo who gets really creepy. The show is missing one particular stock character. It needs the wide-eyed rookie who the audience can empathize with. Otherwise, this is a nice dark procedural.

Honest Review
just_meth12 December 2014
This series is a great drama that depicts the lives of police officers who work in a division that deals with stalkers, not only does it show beautiful and strong women in a position of power it also shows that everyone has their own problems and demons that they fight with and that everyone has a past that could haunt them.

And just like almost every other TV show out there every once and a while we get to know more about the main characters and their stories which could be dark and dramatic (which by the way is a great change of the "everything is awesome, life is great" type of shows out there) and the rest of the time we get separate stories about stalking cases which they deal with on a daily bases, I mean the show is called "Stalker" after all.

S01 Episode 18 - How can a series that was such promising end so bad
lillebjoern-0206629 April 2015
A well trained police officer with martial arts skills get loose twice from her handcuffs, punch out the "Ray" the attacker, then run for the door. Why would he leave the keys for the handcuffs on the table?? Just to check if he could trust her... crap. Several times she have either a knife or other items she easily could have "killed" or harmed "Ray" with, why didn't she finish him off.... two times he was down, half unconscious. She is so clear and focused until she gets loose, then she starts panicking.... All this just so the others can come and save her.... what about reality... again wasted time starting following a show, then its crap at the end. Hollywood writers - wake up....

I'm liking this one
brian_dines19 January 2015
To me, this has been disappointing TV season. I started watching "Scandal" with great expectations, but after six episodes I decided to call it quits; "Scandal" is crap, predictable and always swinging for the lowest hanging fruit. Same for "Masters of Sex", which has been very dull. So with the sour taste still in my mouth from those disappointments, I didn't expect much if anything from "Stalker", but ...

it's a good show. The characters are written and acted well enough that I can't guess what's going to happen next, and the dynamics between the two-woman/two-man cast of main characters is compelling enough that their histories and interaction keep pulling me into the story.

So I'm adding this to my list of great shows: Walking Dead, Suits, Orange is the New Black, The Good Wife, Mad Men, Sherlock, The Americans, True Detective, etc.
