Right from the beginning this had a straight to DVD / TV feel to it. An excellent cast seem wasted and Connie Nielson is totally miscast with a horrible accent, I usually like her too. Like others have said, the action scenes are poor and the music was awful and brought nothing to the Film, maybe they didn't have the budget. At one point Chen's character mentions NATO rounds being 7.62, when they are now 5.56, but I am just being picky. Any way I lost interest after about 30 minutes. I have liked Simon West's movies in the past but he has seriously lost it of late. On the whole a Sub Par effort.

Enjoyed this more than I expected to. I've read the authors autobiography (Duncan Falconer) so was intrigued to see his fictional Stratton brought to life. Of course, it's a crowded market place and comparisons to Bourne and Bond are inevitable. I found most of the acting convincing, Sumner's character less so as some of the relationships between the characters. Plot development is difficult in the constrained 1h 50m time frame. Nevertheless, the action vs. storyline struck the right balance.

This film tells the story of a group of British and American intelligence officers, who carries out a secret mission to stop a man's plot of destroying a Court using weapon of mass destruction.

"Stratton" is a mainstream film, and it's a risk averse investment by the film producers. The characters are generic, the plot is formulaic and predictable, but it does entertain and help to kill time. It's not memorable, but it's not bad either.

I expected a somewhat decent action movie, but instead watched something that has the appeal of a damp rag. The writing is terrible, fight scenes and sound effects are very far from believable, acting is mediocre at best.

Don't waste your time.

Honestly this movie just felt like it was ticking off a checklist. Gun shoot out. check. Car chase. check. Underwater scene. check. It just kept going.

I went into the film with a good expectation especially from such a well known cast, but it fell flat. No chemistry among the cast, Dominic Cooper just didn't have the presence or physicality you would expect of a SBS Agent. The villain was underwhelming and even at the end of the film I'm still not sure what the motive was.

Even with all the great locations and scenery, it couldn't carry the bland and unimaginative story line. Do not watch.

I don't really have a polite thing to say about this film at all. It had so much promise but delivered jack!

There were some fine actors cast, but even they could not breathe any life into it. I actually feel sorry for the 17 individuals that were the main cast. Tom Felton, previously of the Harry Potter series, must wonder where his career failed so badly!

As the Military Adviser, Mr Richard Smedley should be ashamed of himself, that his name is against this shocking portray of our special forces. I really hope that he was overruled on how the final film would look!

Poorly filmed, poorly scripted, poorly acted and poorly advised!

Don't bother, unless you are extremely desperate!

I think reviewers are being a little harsh about this film. It's an action thriller featuring the SBS, MI6 etc. Mainly British cast with a couple of token Americans. Gemma Chan is superb, with a different actress her role wouldn't be memorable but she really helps things along. Derek Jacobi, unsurprisingly good. Unlike many reviews, I think Dominic Cooper did a good job, especially given the lack of time he had to prepare for this. Connie Nielsen however was an odd choice, her posh British accent varied in intensity and felt awkward. You can't compare this to a big budget Bond/Bourne/Mission Impossible, but I found it entertaining.

Action movie, how anyone could class this as an action movie is beyond me. It had no oomph, even the action scenes were boring! it was more like a very badly made soap. I could not gain affinity to any of the characters they just didn't make me care if they survived or not. The acting was generally dull, I wouldn't bother wasting your time watching it. It was like watching paint dry.

Dominic Cooper plays Stratton, an elite agent working for Mi6 who is tasked with taking down a terrorist who is planning on releasing a deadly nerve gas over London.

It has decent action scenes which are well filmed and bloody and Cooper is a good looking and charismatic lead. It's directed by Simon West who also made Con Air and The Expendables 2 so there's no issues at all with the action scenes.

At times though it's small budget and scope betray it as during the slower, more talky scenes it feels a bit like a TV movie.

It won't blow your mind but if you're looking for a good time action movie which is a very easy watch then check it out.

I didn't regret it.

I do wonder how so many bad (and I mean really bad) films get made - surely the people in charge must have some idea about film making otherwise how and why are they able to raise money for this kind of mindless nonsense? I wish there was something - anything - good about this movie but I can't think of a single thing. Everything was wrong from the basic premise to Connie Nielsen's accent (she is wasted in rubbish like this). It had the look and the feel of some low budget US TV 'thriller' along the lines of Scorpion. I've just thought of something good - it was only 94 minutes long!

I see a lot of decent, action-packed movies with humour, style, good, fast pace getting really lousy ratings, just like this one. I usually wonder if the reviewers saw the same movie, or wonder if they have an agenda, to pull down the rating, something like that. This one's fun, partly because of the European location, and European actors, though all the actors do a great job. The plot's fine, action's great, explosions, cinematography - plenty to like.

Great action movie - no, but a good one, after which I didn't feel as if I wasted my time. This movie reminds me a lot of a compressed season of "24", with Dominic Cooper's character analogous to Jack Bauer. Action was good, a couple of plot twists, casting was actually very good.

Bad guy was very good - not an over-the-top characterization, but something more believable.

The movie did play like a made-for-TV show, but not in a bad way. Less budget and special effects than a theatrical release, but still quite good. I'd watch it again.

If you like "24", you'll like this.

I think in essence this could have been a very good film . One big problem which really ruined the whole thing was the very poor sound and a soundtrack that was so cheap lacklustre and corny , for me spoilt the whole film . One small plus was Derrick Jacobi who was a joy along with his accent

Stratton is crummy on many levels......

Firstly, its action lacks sparkle. There's nothing frenetic or really exciting about the action sequences, of what is supposed to be an action film.

Secondly, its characterizations feel awkward. The characters simply don't feel especially well rounded and in some instances, the special forces female executive officer, they are downright clumsy.

Thirdly, is the enemy as of late anyone other than the Russian's and the Syrian's? This is so tedious and is reminiscent of the one sided politics dished out by the mainstream media.

Are there any positives here? The acting is in some cases reasonable.The lead actor does a good job but everything else is so dismal any decent acting "goes down with the ship" (pun intended).

In short, this is one steer well clear of. Its generic, dull and predictable. Three out of ten from me.

Don't write reviews often. Just when they're really good, or really bad. Please trust me on this one: It's truly awful! Whether the direction, the script, or Connie Nielsen's accent is the worst part, is up for debate; personally I would have to say it has to be the director. I mean, seriously! What were they thinking was good about what they were doing? Some decent actors try to do their best. But the direction is painful, the dialogue is risible, and Connie Nielsen's accent.................! This is definitely a couple of hours you will regret on your deathbed! Such a shame, as could have been a grand action movie with the right person at the helm

I like Simon West as a director and think he really know how to direct big dumb-fun action movie with some of the best i see from him in the past like:Con Air(one of my favorite Nic Cage movie) and The Expendables 2(The best of the trilogy).His new movie Stratton (2017) although is not as bad as people said but still a pretty meh movie at best.The plot is very genetic,there some good acting but still suffer from one dimensional character.Nice cinematography and few good action scene with clear shot is the only saving point for this movie.If you like past Simon West movie you will highly disappointed with this movie

I think the movie is worth watching..yes the acting is a bit wooden at times some accents are over the top.. action scenes are good little corny now and then...but worth a watch

This is OK, to a little less than OK.

WTF is Connie Nielsen doing with some god-awful attempt at a well- spoken Brit? That was embarrassing and utterly cringeworthy to watch. A world away from her performance in Gladiator.

Special effects are well below par - and a competent film unit from the BBC would have done far, far better. Indeed - Dr Who is better made than this for explosive FX.

Fairly lame and clunky handover sequence during bus sequence from the entrance of Battersea Park to Millbrook Proving track! Boat sequence that preceded it was fairly good though. Sounds like the music owes a fair bit to the most recent Mission Impossible films (Rogue Nation) also...

Overall - reasonable popcorn fodder. Don't expect too much from it - it's totally generic.

This was a good movie... Had a "Strike Back" feel to it, of which I am a fan as well. There was action and military spy type of drama. It was enjoyable and I truly dont understand the harsh criticism. Definitely worth a watch.

This is a fun action flick that moves well. If anything, it moves TOO fast. They have one too many action setups, and too little character development, especially regarding the mole in their midst.

The realism factor is reasonable; nothing grotesquely improbable to pull you out of the story. The acting is at the usual action flick level, with an exceptional bonus from renowned british thespian derek jacoby.

This has the heavy handed smudged fingerprints of a sequel series, and Jacoby's character is a big clue for that -- the irascible old man sidekick with an unknown past. Besides, it's based on a series of books written by a former SBS operative, so there's plenty of potential action to mine.

I'm glad it's british -- their lower budgets keep their action flicks honest.

'Stratton' is very like 'Eat Locals' of the films seen recently. In that the concept showed a lot of promise, that could have worked when done right, and that talented actors were on board and could have been good with the right material.

Unfortunately the promise of 'Stratton's' premise is completely butchered by near-irredeemably bad execution. The cast also deserved much better than what they get here, and the performances are underwhelming nearly all round. Only some instances of slick cinematography and a fun boat chase save 'Stratton' from being worse. Oh, and Derek Jacobi, the fine actor and professional that he is, does his best with what he is given, though in a way he is wasted with an underwritten character and terrible dialogue.

The rest of the cast struggle. Dominic Cooper replaced Henry Cavill, who would have been a much better choice, at short notice, and he comes over as too lightweight for a role that really does not suit him at all and looks ill at ease. Tom Felton chews the scenery to pieces, one would not think that he was a bright spot in the 'Harry Potter' films judging from his performance here. Gemma Chan is also bland.

Worst of all is Connie Nielsen, who looks completely and utterly bored as a character who couldn't have been more uninteresting, one actually feels sorry for him. Furthermore, in a film full of execrable dialogue Nielsen has the duffest of the lot and it comes over loud and clear that she knows that, her English accent, which she really struggles with, is one of the worst of the past decade too. In fact, the best performance comes from Jacobi.

It's not just the cast that disappoints. Everything else is bad. 'Stratton' constantly has a straight-to-video look, which it would have been if made 20-25 years ago. Especially bad is the incomprehensible editing which makes the ho-hum at best (a lot of it is actually incredibly pedestrian and has no excitement at all, apart from one and even that, while fun, is not exactly mind-blowing) action indecipherable at times.

Music score is never dynamic or fitting, it even sounds cheap and like it would have been out of date even in a film from 20 plus years previously. The dialogue is execrable throughout, and the story is disjointed, dull and with no surprises at all. The characters are cardboard one-dimensional stereotypes that don't engage or relate to the audience in any way. Simon West's direction is completely devoid of tension, style or sense of pace, this is an amateur hour directing job.

Overall, very poor. 2/10 (in my first truly negative lowest-rating review since 'The Emoji Movie' three weeks ago). Bethany Cox
