- A brutal murder involving a wealthy titled lady occurs one evening, and the team has until dawn to solve it before the lady's husband can use his influence to have her freed.
- The recovering Reid arrests Lady Vera Montacute, an aristocrat who enjoys slumming it, who has been found unconscious in a Whitechapel lodging house next to the corpse of flower seller Ida Watts. Both women were drugged and Ida's cousin Tom Denton, a known thief who drugs his victims, is also brought in. He explains that he procured Ida for sex with Lady Vera and her husband, who arrives at the police station demanding his wife's release. Lady Vera admits to the murder but the modern finger-printing device proves that hers was not the hand upon the fatal weapon. When Abberline intervenes Reid realizes that he may not be able to make an arrest after all.—don @ minifie-1
- Insp. Reid is back at work - too soon after his injuries as far as Insp. Drake is concerned - and they investigate the fatal stabbing of a young woman. The obvious suspect is the woman who was found in the same bed as and covered in her blood - Vera Carswell, Lady Montacute. Lord Montacute is soon at the station with few answers to Reid's many questions but with a singular assurance: when the courts open in the morning, his wife will be set free. Realizing they have only a few hours to solve the case, the police press Jackson onto service and he suggests using a fingerprint he's found to see if they can identify the killer.—garykmcd
