Glad for Crabtree
tert7210 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So glad for Crabtree. I figured he would cave like murdoch and let grace back in. He stood his ground and let the trollop know how he felt.... Will they get together? Not sure. But at least he stood his ground

The tyranny of the sound of progress
miles-3310820 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
A crowd has gathered in a Toronto street one Sunday. At the centre of the crowd is a telegraph pole with a man tied to the top of it. There are explosives strapped to the man, and a sign warning that the bomb will be detonated by a loud noise. As it is Sunday, the first thing for the police to do is to stop churches ringing their bells, but things will be worse come Monday when the nearby factories begin production.

It transpires that the trapped man is Richard Welch, an industrialist who has been operating one of the local factories for six months. Although Mr Welch is generally liked by those who know him socially, there is a group, known as the New Agrarians, whose mission is to reduce noise and pollution in the city, who have protested against the factory, and Mr Welch's nearby rival factory owners dislike him because he attracts the best workers by dint of paying higher wages.

Detective Murdoch visits Dr Ogden to seek her assistance in building a psychological profile of the bomber, and she wonders if perhaps there might be another question on his mind. Dr Grace also seeks out Constable Crabtree in order to apologise for her behaviour with Leslie Garland, but the words don't seem to come out correctly.

Following a request from the police, Mayor Clarkson persuades the local factory owners to suspend production while the situation is resolved, but time passes, without any resolution, and when the mayor gives in to the pressure from the local businessmen to permit them to resume working, Detective Murdoch takes the bull by the horns and begins to climb the telegraph pole to free Mr Welch. While he is climbing the pole, the sound of a car backfiring triggers the device, leaving The onlookers covered in bits of Mr Welch.

Having learned from Constable Crabtree that he believes things are over between him and Emily Grace, Constable Higgins visits the morgue to invite her out, but Dr Grace does not respond well to the suggestion.

Shortly thereafter, a masked man captures Mayor Clarkson and wires him up to a similar noise-activated device.

With time ticking away, can Murdoch identify the bomber or defuse the bomb? Or will the Mayor end up spread all over town? Will either of our female doctors find happiness?

This is a tautly-written episode, with an ingenious story. Well worth watching.
