Abstract Vision

Este Does Not Make a Movie does not disappoint. In fact it meets expectations and then leaves those preconceptions in the dust. Imagine if Picasso saw the world the way he painted, like his perception was altered in such an abstract way. This is what we are introduced to with the film: a man who's artistic vision is his only vision to the point where he doesn't know the difference between existence and a wide angle shot. Now sure, the premise is just a meta movie. You can get that from the title. The beauty comes from the execution. The movie plays with the fourth wall in a way where the audience isn't just bombarded with references and cute little nods. The meta aspect of "Este Does Not Make a Movie" while blatant, is strangely subtle and, at times, even unsettling. And therein lies another part of what makes the film so good. Some parts play like a horror flick and the viewer will experience moments of discomfort, yet somehow even in those moments the movie is so self aware that it manages to pierce through the eerie atmosphere with truly golden humor. Now you could say that I am biased about the movie given that I know the star, Estevan Munoz, and have worked with him in the past on lesser projects, but don't get me wrong; I was completely ready for this movie to be cute, or just an alright experience. But like I said: expectations left in the dust rotting away on the road a few miles back. If you get a chance to see. . .no, witness "Este Does Not Make a Movie" do so. Worth the 2 bucks and then some.
