Life, like art, can be beautiful or not: we must look below the surface to truly understand either.

If viewed strictly as a crime drama, Zhizn posle zhizni (Life after Life), is a somewhat predictable movie. The viewer is not going to be too surprised by anything that happens. If viewed as a psychological thriller however, this movie has much to offer. You may think you know what's going to happen next, but the journey getting there is still going to be an emotional roller-coaster.

Yuliya Mavrina stars as a young writer who must choose between her secret love for her older, somewhat drab boss, and a young, handsome, wealthy suitor, well played by Anton Pampushnyy. Meanwhile, she also attempts to decide whether or not a very scary looking artist was indeed a murderer, or if perhaps the young boy who accused him might have been mistaken. Her young brother, played by Miroslav Belonogov, has accusations of his own. Who do we believe, and who do we want to believe, and why?

An excellent cast and beautiful photography help make this a memorable movie.
