The gas masks donned by British troops in the trenches are Russian and include ShM-41s ("helmet mask" issued in 1941 but not worn by UK forces) and a PMG ("small mask" that was first made in 1963).
The narrator said that Lenin and Stalin stormed the Winter Palace and overthrew the Tsar. However, at the time the Tsar was overthrown in March 1917 (February on the Julian calendar in use in Russia at the time), Lenin was in exile in Switzerland while Stalin was in exile in Siberia. The government that was overthrown by the Bolsheviks in November 1917 (October on the Julian calendar) was the democratic Provisional Government headed by Alexander Kerensky, which was established after the overthrow of the Tsar. The Germans smuggled Lenin to Russia in the hopes that he would destabilize the Provisional Government.
According to the narration, Adolf Hitler attempted to enlist in the Austrian army at the outbreak of World War I. Hitler left Austria after claiming the inheritance due him from his father's estate, and moved to Munich in May 1913. Most historians believe this move was to avoid being conscripted into the Austrian army--which by August 1913 was already attempting to determine Hitler's whereabouts due to his failure to register for service as required by law. In January 1914, Hitler was arrested by the Munich Kriminalpolizei for extradition to Austria after the Kripo had received a summons for Hitler to return to Linz for induction. He reported in February 1914 and was found to be unfit for military service, and then returned to Munich--six months before the outbreak of war. Hitler volunteered for service in the Bavarian army on August 5, four days after the German declaration of war. He made no attempt to enlist in the Austrian forces. It is likely that he was only able to serve in the Bavarian army through a bureaucratic oversight, since he was not a German citizen and under the laws then in force, he should have been returned to Austria for military service there.
Young Mussolini is portrayed with a full beard and mustache. As a young man, he wore a mustache but no beard.
When Patton is shown meeting with MacArthur for the first time, he introduces himself with the rank of "Lieutenant". His rank at this time was Lieutenant Colonel. He is, however, wearing oak leaves on his shoulders.
While fighting in Mexico, George S. Patton is shown firing a Lee-Enfield rifle.
Because the machine gun fire is CGI, the ammo belt never feeds while Patton is firing it from the back of the car.
When Patton meets MacArthur; he introduces himself as Lt. George Patton. But the character is wearing Lt. Colonel insignia. Patton was a 1st Lt. when he was in Mexico fighting Villa. By the time he was assigned to Europe in early 1917 he was a Captain. He made major in Jan 1918 and Lt. Colonel in April 1918. So it's very likely that the actor simply made a mistake when he spoke the lines; saying Lt., instead of Lt. Colonel.
A very large number of the scenes are reversed images. This can be seen where the bolt levers on the rifles are on the left instead of the right side of the rifles, where nearly every character is firing or holding his rifle left handed, where the number on Lenin's railway car is reversed, etc.
Whenever Patton is shown standing or riding on a tank, the tank shown is an M3 Stuart which did not enter service until about 20 years after the end of World War I.
When the Germans sign the Treaty of Versailles, a close-up of the fountain pen shows the Ohto Japan logo. That company did not exist until 1929.
When the narrator describes Hitler training in 1914, the soldiers are all wearing Stahlhelms which did not come into service until 1916. They would have used the spiked Pickelhaube at this stage of the war.
The tank Patton is seen leading into battle is an M2, which was a 1930s era tank.
During a scene of the allies advancing, crew members and cranes can be scene in the background.
During the MacArthur/Patton attack, in a scene shot trailing a tank with troops behind, a white vehicle is visible in the upper right of the screen. For a moment, I thought it was Al Cowlings and OJ Simpson, with Lt. Col. George S. Patton hot on their heels! No kidding! It was so obvious, I posted it on my Facebook page.
A map indicates Gallipoli on the southern (Asian) side of the Dardanelles. It is actually located on the northern (European) side of that strait.
Video shows Hitler being spared by a British soldier during World War 1. However, only Hitler himself has ever told this story, and has never been confirmed by any other sources.
Video shows Stalin meeting Lenin in Petrograd, after arriving back in Russia from exile. However Stalin was not there to greet Lenin, he was in the Caucus region of Russia at that time.
When MacArthur and Patton meet, Patton refers to himself as a Lieutenant, when it is plainly visible that he has on shoulder rank insignia for a Lieutenant Colonel, his actual rank at the time.
