Billy Brown, the patriarch in the reality-documentary series “Alaskan Bush People,” which follows an isolated Alaskan family, died Sunday night after suffering a seizure. He was 68.
“We are devastated to hear of Billy Brown’s sudden passing,” a Discovery spokesperson said in a statement to Variety. “He has been part of the Discovery family for years — a trailblazer, a lovely man and most definitely one of a kind. Our heart is with his family and those that knew him and loved him as they deal with this devastating loss.”
“Alaskan Bush People,” which began airing in 2014, follows the patriarch and rest of the Brown family, including his wife, Ami, and their seven grown children who are “unlike any other family in America,” according to the Discovery Channel. Far removed from civilization and often going months at a time without seeing others, they refer to themselves as a “wolf pack.” The...

Not even the Covid-19 pandemic could stop Shark Week. The annual Discovery Channel franchise, now in its 32nd edition, remains a juggernaut for the company — which this year is using Shark Week to launch five new series while giving the network (and cable in general) a needed boost.
“I’ve worked at Discovery as a broad company for a long time, and Shark Week was always the biggest week of the year across the entire company,” says Nancy Daniels, the chief brand officer of Discovery & Factual. “Everybody loves Shark Week. Everybody loves talking about Shark Week.”
Shark Week has been called “Discovery’s Super Bowl,” and that’s not just hyperbole. “Shark Week brings in a different audience, a more expansive audience, than we get most other weeks of the year,” Daniels says. “We get a lot more A/B county people watching. We get just a lot more eyeballs...

Alaskan Bush People is a show that has been running for some time. For those who are unfamiliar, it is an unscripted show about the Brown family, who are supposed to be living off-of-the-grid in the state of Alaska. However, there is plenty of proof that Alaskan Bush People isn’t real, which has caused something of a divide in its fan-base. It Is Clear that Alaskan Bush People Isn’t Real Generally speaking, viewers tend to be pretty skeptical about the veracity of so-called unscripted shows. After all, they have earned a reputation for being less than faithful representations of what

Shows on the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Hgtv and Food Network may sound very different in the coming months. That’s because Discovery Networks, which owns those and other cable channels, is instituting a new pay policy that virtually assures no composer currently working on their programs will do so after Dec. 31.
Discovery has informed many of its top composers that, beginning in 2020, they must give up all performance royalties paid for U.S. airings, and that they must sign away their ability to collect royalties on all past shows on its networks.
Music makers surmise that the policy will result in an 80% to 90% drop in their income from these shows. It’s the last straw for many composers who say they will refuse to continue to score such series as “Gold Rush,” “Deadliest Catch” (pictured) and “Alaskan Bush People,” calling the new contract provisions “unprofessional,” “bullying,” “a corporate money grab” and “evil.

Mark your calendars! Alaskan Bush People fans better gear up because the reality show has reportedly been renewed for another season. The cast was last dealing with major personal issues, including Matt Brown's struggles with sobriety and Ami Brown's cancer battle. Matt recently returned to rehab for the second time and his progress will be covered during Season 9, according to Radar. "Everyone is interested to see if he is able to overcome his [alcohol] addiction," an insider said. The Discovery star had allegedly already relapsed by the time the footage was shot for the finale, the source added. Don't look down! Gabe Brown showed how incredibly brave he is while helping build a new structure on his family's property, on the upcoming episode of Alaskan Bush People. The reality star put his life at risk while taking on a "dangerous" construction project. “Gabe just needs to cut off the top of the poles,” Snowbird Brown explained while taking it step-by-step. Here's where things get tricky: the wooden poles are way too high up in the air for Gabe to reach them — that is, without trying something creative. “He’s just going to stand in the bucket of the skid-steer and Rain’s going to raise him up,” Snowbird says next. Mind you, Rain, 15, is still learning the ropes when it comes to operating heavy machinery. (Credit: Discovery) Using a chainsaw, Gabe starts cutting off the tops of the poles and successfully freaks out his family along the way.
