Not Bad Good, Just Bad
johnnyrockets5515 June 2019
I don't do many reviews, but I was compelled on this one as I can't believe this movie. I gave it 2 stars because they finished a movie so that right there gives it a extra star. I am still trying to figure out what this was I just tried to watch. There is no massacre. There is nothing but bad editing and really bad dialogue. Diana Prince naked couldn't even save it as they couldn't even make the cut of her topless seamless. I have never seen so many jump cuts. I think the camera they used is the same one they used as a prop in the movie. You can try to watch this, but there is nothing remotely redeemable in this movie. Again the script is bad. There is actually a edit where the girls are talking but there is music over them. So again there is good bad, but this is just bad bad.

Female characters - I like :)
blondiecoolio26 August 2017
I rented this movie the other night, and I thought I was going to be watching a bloody horror movie. Instead, I got a very well done character movie. Being a woman myself, I found I connected with the characters and the situation that they were in.

This movie takes on some very intense themes about male violence towards women, that you don't see all the time in this genre. Specially with the twists that happen. I found myself thinking what would I do if this happened to me and my friends? Yes there were small things that could have been improved on, but I saw a post on the films fan page that said it was a micro low budget film, so taking that into consideration, I feel like they did a good job.

I would recommend this film, just on the fact that it tried hard to be something that other horror movies aren't.

There might be a movie in there somewhere...
jjturley21 August 2017
The "plot" here involves a woman going to a deserted beach house with her girlfriends over the same weekend that her violent ex-husband is getting released from prison. The beach house is very remote, so if something bad were to happen...

I see nothing wrong with the plot, though I would wonder why anyone would want to put themselves so out of contact, regardless of whether a violent ex-felon were suddenly looking for them.

The filmmakers here were extremely clever in convincing us that this beach house was remote. What they did was give many shots of the young women driving, and driving, and driving. Throw in some long shots of the beach, with nothing going on, with waves, and more waves, and we see that this place is really quite remote, I mean really far away, from civilization.

During some of the conversations, there were peculiar jump cuts that I could not quite understand. Since we are at the same point of view each time, it was distracting, especially when the cuts were in the middle of a sentence.

The sound sometimes also dropped off, which again made me wonder if it was intentional. It was too frequent to be just bad editing... Or was it? I think also a few people misspoke their lines, getting the phrase correct the second time. Normally, of course, this would be edited out, unless the editors thought that they did such a great job the first time that they decided to leave the whole thing in?

There is a very attractive woman (Diana Prince) who goes topless for about 30 seconds (jump cuts strung together, each 10 seconds long = 30 seconds) You can't miss it, since the lead (Taya Parker) exclaims something like "Look - She's going topless!" right beforehand. Lucky for me, otherwise I would have missed it. By that point, I was not looking. You see, while I watched this "movie," I found myself suddenly fascinated by things in my living room that I had not really appreciated before. The coffee table over the carpet, for example. I was fixating on that more and more as this "movie" played out.

Let me give them some credit, though. There was a surprise ending. Something did happen that was not expected. And a lot of women were quite easy on the eyes.

I think that this movie could have been done a lot better. First and foremost, the editing needed a lot of work.

Good looking but lots of mistakes...
JoferJeff13 August 2017
Simple story. A single mother heads to her parents beach house when her ex husband gets out of jail for assaulting her and their daughter. She brings along a few friends and when she gets there, she finds her sister is filming a short film with a couple of people as well. Meanwhile her ex and his uncle are looking for revenge and killing anyone who gets in their way. This could have been a great thriller. It has a lot of talented people involved and they do good work. The main problem with this movie is its so imcompentently made that you cant help but laugh. Lets begin with the sound. There are scenes where there are people having a conversation and they simply play music over it. There's another scene where the mother and father are in the same room talking and the sound is completely different. Its like the mother was re- recorded (badly) in another location and it was dubbed in. The second problem is the editing. Scenes begin and end with no transition. There's a scene with three girls in a hot tub talking about nothing and there are maybe five jump-cuts. The movie is simply pieced together badly. Third, the ages of the girls varies wildly. The lead is 38 (irl) and shes playing as a girl in the mid to late 20s. Taya Parker does an OK job but shes bland and her inexperience shows. One of the worst is Deborah Funes who plays Charliee. Funes has a VERY thick accent and its difficult to understand her lines in the movie. We are also supposed to believe shes a model. (NO NO NO NO) There are others, but the rest of the cast does a good job for the most part. This could have been a lot better, but it does look great and everyone puts effort into it. A shout out to Diana Prince and Elissa Dowling who are great in the movie.

(PS) The director has the balls to plug one of his upcoming films in the movie. Im serious. The girls are sitting on a couch looking at dvds and they start talking about how great "The Mangled" is. Funny thing, the director has an upcoming movie called The Mangled and it has the same plot.....shameless. I don't know if I should be impressed or embarrassed.

A fun cheesy movie
familymatters-9896723 August 2017
A simple plot, that is easy to follow. A mother takes her friends and her child to her parents secluded beach house. On the weekend that her crazy ex is getting out of prison.

The acting in this movie is pretty good, although, the age ranges are confusing. Their suppose to be friends since they were in their teens, however, most look like they're in their upper thirties. I realize that people act outside of their age range all the time, but for me it kind of took me out of the story.

The lead who is played by Taya Parker, who I guess before this was in a reality TV show a while back, is pretty good as the lead. Their are some scenes however, that her acting does show, but for the most part everyone in the film is trying their best.

I had expectations going into this film that it wasn't going to be that great. Given the title, but I was actually laughing at some of the scenes that were suppose to be funny and enjoyed the overall film.

What this film really is lacking is some of the other things, one the sound does go a little funny here and there. And it was distracting at times. But I feel like that kind of stuff goes with indie horror films, where the budget isn't that high. So you just kind of have to go with it.

The film it self looks great, and they do some very interesting choices with some of the scenes in terms of color and editing.

Overall, I think if you're looking for a fun cheesy movie, not going in with high expectations then you will enjoy this film too.

Worst movie i have watched in years.
tigermel19 August 2017
This movie sucked. I guess the makers of this filmed only spent a couple hundred dollars to film this movie. I don't suggest anyone wasting there $1. 50 to rent this movie. It doesn't even end right. What idiot came up with this idea for a movie. Maybe if the makers would have thought it through a little better then this, it might have had a chance to score a rating of 3.

Who? Where?
kosmasp25 October 2022
No pun intended - if you'd ask me where the movie is supposed to be playing, I couldn't really tell you. Though to be fair, the Beach Massacre title is quite catchy to say the least. Apart from the massacre part, there is also a nudity part. Not too much, but some either have issues with that or are looking forward to it .. so for your information if you will.

There is also one actress who has so much botox in here face, that trying to figure out what she is currently feeling ... well is quite the impossible task. No pun intended of course and no offense (?). All kidding aside, the movie has some finer moments, but the acting in it isn't it ... at least not for the most part(s) ... I don't even know where those puns come from. Which is also true about two strangers ... but you know what they say? You don't? Me neither ... maybe they say, do not watch this? On the other hand, there have been worse movies out there, so there is that.

Will it ever end
goldenageoffilm18 October 2019
The writing and directing kill this film. The actors have very small moments, but really nothing to work with. The story line is terrible. But ultimately it's the Director that should be given a 1, for just not trying.

2 Words: Bor Ing
vlcupper127 December 2022
I'm staying at my friends' house, and we picked this because we always watch laughably bad movies when I stay with them. It's bad, but it's the worst kind of bad. It's not even funny bad. It's just BORING. It's an absolute slog that could have been trimmed down by 30 minutes. Almost every scene drags for about 10 minutes longer than it should. Except for the little girl, the characters are unlikeable at best, and the dialogue sounds like it was written by high school boys. About 40 minutes in we forgot what we were watching.

If you're looking for a bad movie, skip this and watch something by Mark Polonia instead.

Tried to be more than what it was capable of being.
philip-g-9509230 September 2017
Beach Massacre at Kill Devil Hill kind of surprised me, but not necessarily in a good way. From the attention grabbing cover of a young woman in a bikini, with a knife, body, and blood, one would think this has all the classic markings of being a B level slasher flick. While it by all means is B level, it is actually less your typical teen slasher flick, and tries to take things in a more story driven direction. Unfortunately, the budget and talent just wasn't here to successfully pull off what they tried to do.

1- The cuts, transitions, and in general the editing is awful, even by B movie standards. Jarring and distracting camera cuts all through the movie, awkward dialogue with possibly some mistakes that weren't edited out correctly, loud music that doesn't cut out at the right time and drowns out the first part of dialogue scenes. Some of this stuff may have been design decisions rather than all being mistakes, but it all came off as distracting and almost unfinished.

2- the acting, while not "good", also wasn't terrible for your average indi film. Some dialogue scenes tended to draw out longer than needed and the writing was hit and miss, but I've seen worse.

3- The story tried to be something more than your typical indi horror slasher, but it just didn't all gel together very well, and came off as long winded. This movie was certainly a slow burner with a majority of the film time spent introducing characters, the plot situation and multiple different threads. While somewhat unique, it just wasn't very interesting, and while there is a twist in how the movie ends, it leaves you more thinking "ok....?" than being surprised or entertained by it.

IMO, anyone looking for some slasher movie fun will likely be disappointed, and people who are wanting a dark story will want something with more quality and meat to it.

B-hororr = fun movie!
jackavery24 August 2017
I don't know what all of these people are talking about, I thought this film was fun. The acting wasn't horrible like some other b-horror movies I've watched. The film actually looked good! And the story line was pretty rad too.

I would rent it again or even buy it to put in my collection. Every b-horror movie as flaws. I liked it.

P.S. Taya Parker is hot! And I love her acting in this film! Actually the entire cast is hot! It's worth to at least check out once.

everyone in this movie is as good as Deborah Funes' Plastic surgeon..
warehousereviews1 October 2020
Take out all the "artistic" beach shots and the movie would be a much, much, much shorter incoherent mess of bad acting and uncomfortable hot tub scenes..

Then take those cut "artistic" beach shots and put together a live wallpaper for your laptop, and you will have made something decent and worthwhile.

I want the natural light
nogodnomasters31 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Bunch of young women at a "cabin in the woods" or in this case by the beach...which was in North Carolina and really wasn't much of a beach. It had sand so I guess it qualified. I didn't see any dunes, let alone hills.

The young women are there and the evil wife beating ex-husband is getting out of jail today which didn't work in the way you would expect it to, rather they made two films. I was impressed with Liane Langford, who had a Julia Roberts look to her and seems to be able to act.

Now most of the women in this film have done "B" horror films before, but you couldn't tell it by the script. There were scenes where you see the women talking, but all you hear is music. They couldn't even think of clever dialogue as filler. Boring hot tub scenes. The script was terrible. The killing effects were bad too.

Guide: F-word. Nudity (Alex Devivo) sex talk

In the #MeToo movement Beach Massacre gives a lot more heart
johnlangley-3386710 April 2018
Beach Massacre at Kill Devil Hills, the title a little cheesy, the poster of a hot girl and some bloody body parts made me think I'd give it a shot. I don't know if I was watching the same movie as some of the other reviewers on here. I'm not a big horror fan to begin with.

But this was a slow burner that kept my attention. Who would have thought from the cast listing that there would be some pretty good acting in it. Given the fact that the lead Taya Parker was in Rock of Love, and more of a reality TV star (nothing wrong with that) but in this role of Stacy, she is not a sex object for her looks, for the most part she is just a wholesome mom, who is trying to do the best for her daughter. And that's what gets me about this film, it tries so hard not to be a horror film, the director seemed to want to have more time building the relationships of the friends then on the actual horror itself. And lets a lot of the action play out in our minds, which some times is better than showing. And it could be true that a lot of this was subject to the budget of the film.

Back to my main point, in a time where we have #MeToo happening, and an op-head article by actress Molly Ringwald calling out horror movies about how women are merely sexually objects that die. Beach Massacre at Kill Devil Hills, keeps the cast grounded for the most part, and aren't subject to these horror troves that are normal for an indie B movie.

The real surprise for me is that Taya Parker shows that she can actually act, the surreal flashback scene is a powerful scene given it about domestic abuse, once again this is about a mother trying to protect her daughter, and in the end it doesn't play out the way you would think.

Beach Massacre tries to be more and I assume with a bigger budget it could have been great. But at least the film makers were trying to push for something different.

Also standouts were Sarah French, Elissa Dowling and Diana Priince, the guys in the film also did solid jobs as well.

Has enough to be watchable but still quite problematic
kannibalcorpsegrinder28 March 2020
Getting out of an abusive marriage, a woman and her friends head for a relaxing girls weekend, but they discover the indie movie shot happening there by her sister is the least of her worries when the house is invaded and forced to partake in wild games by a deranged pair of psychos for their enjoyment.

On the whole, this one was a decent enough indie slasher. Among the better qualities featured here is the strong central setup that proves to be far more empowering than expected. By exploring her history of abuse, not only the stories told about their relationship but the flashbacks we get featuring the physical side of their past, this one enhances the idea that there was emotional and physical damage she sustained that changed her personality. That the trip she takes and spends with her friends that give her the carnage to finally fight back against him, owning up to and overcoming the fear she has of her husband, and men in particular, save this one nicely. As well, the film turns itself around nicely in the final half where this features some rather dark and brutal concepts. That there are several fine twists in allegiances and alliances makes for a pretty shocking time. That we get several twists, from who the seemingly friendly couple is to the true nature of the couple filming the movie and the general reversals found in the latter half as just some of the swerves mentioned here that give this far more story than expected throughout here. With these coming along due to the stunning change in approach, they emerge in a fun way that keeps this one interesting for the most part, giving this one a lot to like about it. This does have a few major flaws. The main problem on display is the utterly lame way in which this turns away from a potential slasher into a flimsy home-invasion effort. By eschewing the escaped ex-husband as a nonsensical blimp in the road of his hacked-out plans, there's no need to focus on him for any amount of time as he's simply there to stretch out the running time in favor of these lame and non-threatening games which border on being horror at all. Even more so, the change to do this in a slasher setup with the ex-husband intending to knock them off rather than this is unearned, a complete cheat and serves to undermine a lot of the goodwill it built up beforehand. The other flaw is the rather obvious indie-flavored technical mistakes that can't go unanswered. Taking the budget into account, there's no excuse for how the sound-quality is so jarring and awful, with overdubbed conversations between two different levels as if they were done at a later state, on-set discussions that are drowned out by ambient noise or just drawing out the scene altogether for the soundtrack cues over the top of the scenes. As well, the laughable editing quality where things will jump to an obviously different take in the scene by switching camera positions slightly with a jarring jump or time-lapse montage for no reason, all of which combine to hold this one down.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language, Graphic Violence, Nudity and children-in-jeopardy.
