Just prior to the collision when the camera is showing truck 66 inches away from hitting truck 81, the corner traffic signal on the left side of the screen for truck 66 was shown as being red. When the collision takes place, from the side view where 81 is shown, the corner signal for the street 66 was on was also red. As 81 is shown overturning, the corner signal it was facing was red. About 7 seconds later, the same signal is now green. Traffic signals have what is known as a "red clearance" period where both signals are red so as to allow a vehicle that missed the yellow/red cycle to clear the intersection. Since this was a business area with a lower speed limit, the red clearance period would be relatively short, such as 2-3 seconds. Based on this information, what had taken place was as 66 approached, the signal was going from yellow to red and was red prior to the truck entering the intersection. As 81 approached, the signal was red. Both trucks ran the red light.
Even though Cruz was cleared in the crash, both drivers were negligent.
