On the day of her birthday, the middle-aged Ariane (Ariane Ascaride) makes a cake to celebrate with family and friends. However, she receives flowers and phone calls with requests of apology, and nobody comes to see her. She drives her car without destination and while waiting for a bridge to open, she befriends the biker Raphaël (Adrien Jolivet), who invites her to have lunch at the Olympique Café at Marseilles. He drives her on his motorcycle, where she meets the owner Denis (Gérard Meylan). However, Raphaël meets his girlfriend Lola (Lola Naymark) and leaves Ariane in the restaurant. She takes a taxi to her car that was left at the harbor, but it was towed by the City Hall. The taxi driver (Jean-Pierre Darroussin) takes her to the municipal parking where the car was left. She goes to an ATM to take money to pay the cab driver and the authorities to release her car, but she is stolen by two men in a motorcycle. Ariane returns to the restaurant where she befriends clients including the French Jacques (Jacques Boudet) that likes to speak English and the watchman Marcial (Youssouf Djaoro Mbadi) and is hired by Denis to work at the Olympique Café. She helps all of them and meets a talkative turtle that becomes her friend.
"Au fil d'Ariane", a.k.a. "Ariane's Thread" (2014) is an entertaining French movie with a senseless story. The cast is charismatic, and the weird situations are explained in the end. Lola Naymark is very hot and her scene at the beach is probably the best moment of the film. The final plot point is surprising and makes worthwhile watching "Ariane's Thread". My vote is six.
Title (Brazil): "O Fio de Ariane" ("The Thread of Ariane")
