Impressive for Low Budget Indie
Erin5026627 July 2016
My buddy Eric shared this with me and I thank him! Yes, it's a low budget film with non-'Alist' actors. I consider it to be a Christian film with a great message. It's probably not for those under 15, as there is an adult theme but clean language and action. (Best of all, no one smokes-a personal pet peeve! ;) But one must be impressed with Brian Reed Garvin's first, full length film. He wrote, directed, starred, etc.. The cast were all more than adequate and some were quite good. The dialogue was weak in a few places but overall a good story. Even the special effects were decent-not cheesy! The only real issue I have is most non Roman Catholics don't carry rosaries so why would Rev. Mason? And the King James is NOT the 'best translation' of the Holy Bible; the Coptic is with the Greek second.

Religious bore fest
johnharaldstad17 August 2018
I got curious about the movie based on the cover as it reminded me of Neil Breen covers. Unfortunately this movie has very little going for it.

The dialogue and story is the biggest problem as it is mostly bad jokes and religious preaching. The acting is ok to bad for the most part. Only one that stands out as really bad is the main character Archer.

There were some highlights in this movie however. Most in a so bad it's good kind of way. The fighting scenes were really funny with weird editing like fast cuts, speeding up and slowing down. Effects were also pretty bad, but it's a low budget picture so that's fine.

All in all a very preachy religious movie which is mostly filled with boring dialogue and bad acting.

Garbage film.

This movie is with a potato, and you can immediately tell how terrible it is. The acting is horrendous as well. I think this movie was literally a money laundering scheme.

CHristian Sci-fi garbage - 1 bonus point for the hilarious ITA subtitles
pippolomeo24 August 2021
Prime Video seems to have acquired rights for a bunch of christian sci-fi movies recently, this being probably the most confusing, poor made, full of religious nonsense and with less actual sci-fi of them all (at least I hope so).

The fun part is that, while the others are also boring, this one is so bad is good.

The complete nonsense feeling is even improved in the italian version (which has original audio and italian subtitles): they are so poorly translated that the dialogues make no sense at all in lots of parts.

One of the best: you know that "bike" can both mean "bicycle" and the fuel-propelled thing. Well, at one point, an actor is looking to another one riding a motorbyke and in italian he asks: "are you into bicycles?" "yes, they have two wheels and an engine, what's the problem?"

without hilarious italian subtitles, this would be a 2, but it gains a whole point more with them.

Absolute Trash
dwenner-320396 February 2020
As others have suggested, this may be a drug laundering effort as it is one of the poorest movies i have seen in a while. If this is supposed to be a thought provoking religious movie, then i can only laugh.

Archer Stone is on a mission which brings him up against impossible odds.
sunshineperson1 June 2014
On a shoe-string budget Brian Reed Garvin has managed to bring an epic-sized movie to the screen, and he has done so with an obvious love and passion for his subject matter and the characters he has created.

Katherine Randolf is captivating as "Kim", a nurse sucked into a situation she doesn't understand but which starts her on a journey to discovery and spirituality. Her accidental accomplice, "Rev. Basil Mason", played with aplomb by Martin Horsey, adds to the mystery of the story and tempers the excitement and action with a light touch of humor.

Speaking of excitement and action Centurion A.D. is loaded to go, and "Archer Stone", played by the writer and director supplies a larger-than-life hero who will steal your imagination and your admiration. His nemesis, F.B.I. agent," Rocco Rinaldi", played convincingly by Vincent Inneo ensures the action will never stop until the story ends with a heart-wrenching twist which makes it all make sense.

There are numerous other unforgettable performance. The evil "Michael Reilly" played by Aaron Hammond, and the young "Basil" played by Carter Thomas are two outstanding performances. And my favorite, the precocious "Cindy Travers" played by Carmina Garay who handily disarms the hard-boiled Agent Rinaldi and steals every scene she is in.

The action and visual effects are amazing and thrilling to watch, but they will not detract from the thought-provoking message the movie delivers. Centurion A.D. is a winner and a film every family will enjoy seeing.

Fantastic Film. Loved all that happened.
AnthonyUnbar26 June 2014
I was really impressed with this film. This is an intense fun family oriented film that grabs you from the opening scene. Katherine Randolph is really good, very believable, extremely easy on the eyes, and a fun character to watch. I also really liked that Martin Horsey guy who played the preacher, very funny. And I got a kick out of the FBI stuff, and the double talking silliness of that Agent Rinaldi. Although... my hat goes off to the Director Brian Garvin who pulled this thing together and had the tenacity to finish it. I read that it took 14 months to film and another year in post. Great job!

Why can't we see more films like this? It's fun, has a good story edge for a faith based film, and really paid off in the end! I'd pay $15 to see this. Best of all, I could associate with the characters. There was a lot said that I've heard myself saying and questioning. This film is a really good story that kept my attention for the entire time. Wonder if anyone has thought of making this into a series, I would totally watch it!

First off... Great film, seriously gifted actors and intense Visual Effects, all on a shoe string budget!!

I'm not one to write a review, but this one get a huge thumbs up! Roger Ebert should have stuck around for this one!

Although it was a seriously micro-budgeted film, it packs a huge wallop with masterfully done Acting, Direction, and Visual Effects. I must say it again, magnificent acting from the entire cast! What a gem of a film, with such a huge screen presence.

From the moment I started watching I was drawn into the story, and taken on a wonderful character driven roller-coaster ride with a huge pay-off at the end! Katherine Randolph was perfect in the Role of "Kim Harris" a nurse struggling to make sense of all that happens to her. Katherine's depth of a multi-layered character was absolutely perfect. Then the ever-endearing "Reverend Basil Mason" played effortlessly by Martin Horsey was smart and captivating. "Archer Stone", played by Brian Reed Garvin was just wonderful giving us a magnificent and a truly powerful performance. Why have these multi-talented actors been stuck in smaller roles, they have fantastic presence on film! Vincent Inneo was very good giving a strong performance as "FBI Agent Rocco Rinaldi". And we cannot forget child actor Carter Thomas, who was just perfect as the "Young Basil Mason", he was commanding and truly endearing.

It is amazing to me that Hollywood cannot make films like this. It is very apparent that this film was made from pure passion and a cast that was truly behind it from the beginning. With all the millions of dollars wasted on terrible films, why can't Hollywood do this?

My Hats off to the Cast and Crew, and especially the director Brian Reed Garvin for making this film! This Director will be an academy award winner if I have anything to do with it! Do Not Miss this, it is an amazing ride!

Does anyone know if a sequel is in the works?

Enjoyable and inspiring
jbentz-17-2413992 June 2014
I really enjoyed this movie. It is suspenseful and thought-provoking. I felt drawn into it from beginning to end. I like how it combines the centurion's Roman past, particularly his role in the death of Christ, with the action of the present. The film deals with issues of faith sensitively and believably, which is unusual.

When I look at the budget for this film, I am amazed that it could have been produced with such high quality. The acting is very good, and other aspects of the production came together very well.

I love how this film treats the mystery of the main character who shows up at the beginning on the black motorcycle and starts changing people's lives. Is he a good guy? A bad guy? Why is the FBI after him? Where did he come from, and what does he plan to do next? It takes the entire film to answer these questions, but it is a memorable ride.

Someone should make this film into a TV Series, it's Great!
megsarullocasting2 June 2014
Centurion AD was a real pleasure to watch! It really pulled me in and I just loved the characters! Katherine Randolph plays a young lady named Kim, who has a hard time believing all that is taking place. Which I think many of us can associate with. Then, I just loved Martin Horsey who played Basil, he was a lot of fun to watch and was a wonderful touch of comic relief. The character of Archer Stone is played by Brian Garvin who was just perfect. This role is one Brian Garvin should be truly proud of. You could tell Brian was very comfortable in this role, he was just Magnificent! I was astonished to see Brian also wrote and directed this film. Excellent work!

If the story and the characters are not enough, the special effects have a real wow factor! To see masterfully done effects, that actually have a purpose in the story, added to the story and provided a really good punch at the end of the film!

Honestly, you must see this film.

What a fun Film, lots of great story turns and some very Cool Effects.
bigbobbyjohnson28 March 2016
Wow, this film was a lot of fun. It said it was a clean family film, but I still watched it before I let my kids 8, 10, and 11, watch it. I loved it, and it was great sharing it with the kids as a family.

The kids loved the demon fight and all the effects, my wife liked the strong female lead who didn't put up with any bull. It was an easy watch, with some fun surprises in there. The Minister was very entertaining. So was the FBI guy. The guy playing Archer was good too, he seemed believable. I checked him out on the IMDb, pretty amazing guy, who also directed and worked on the editing and effects also. You could tell his heart was in this film!

I'm glad I found this film. I'm hoping they make more films like this, it was good to spend time with the kids. This show would be better as a series... kind of a "Touched by an Angel meets Super-Natural". I'd watch and it would become a TV night for us, like I used to have with my family when I was a kid.

Why can't Hollywood make these kind of films!

Inspiring and Suspenseful
scottmuir-440093 September 2017
I absolutely loved this movie. What a great message and great action and effects. Well done! Brian Reed Garvin has outdone himself! This movie is full of great acting and some off the wall humor. When you have a shoe-string budget, it can be hard to pull off a blockbuster. But Brian hit a home run with this one.
