"Bed of Roses" is an offbeat porn romance that I particularly enjoyed thanks to its unusual casting: talented performers who mainly are underappreciated or even unknown to many Adult Cinema fans, as opposed to reliance on the familiar big names. It's no classic, but worth seeking out for something different and a definite throwback to a "classy" approach.
Lauren Montgomery stars as a mature, neglected housewife, whose hubby Dave Hardman is a skirt-chasing plastic surgeon who offers women "discounts" (hint, hint) on upcoming boob jobs in return for sex in his office. Thrust of Phil M. Noir's script is a slow-developing romance between Lauren and her gardener, played by James Bonn. Each of them fantasizes about the other and their final reel romantic climax seems inevitable by soap opera logic.
All personal favorites of mine, Dee, Roxanne Hall and LIza Harper brighten up the movie with sexy performances, while Lauren remains regal, something of an Ice Queen, perhaps disappointing to fans desperate for "heat" but satisfyingly true to her character. With lovely visuals and a mainly classical music score it emerges as a pleasant Couples romance.
