Somewhat OK movie,can be a good one for Vijay fans but definitely not for others,visuals are fine but not PTO Baahubali' s level,same old story with very few unpredictable moments but very average time- passer,but a new try in Fantasy genre but certainly over-hyped.VJ,Sridevi,Sudeep,Shruti,Prabhu impress. Does not seem to justify its budget.Chimbudevan deserves an applause for trying to do something new but this movie definitely does not satisfy expectations.But certainly a new tryout for VJ also.His dance moves were better than the movie itself.A lazily told big budget fantasy action adventure that does not pack a punch.

Too much emphasis on the ingredients that went in to the film, but too little care for the end result? At least that's how I felt watching the movie. The best analogy I could give is trying to create a dish out of other tasty dishes like biryani, payasam, dosa etc., by mixing and mashing them together. By ingredients here, I mean all the characters like Lilliput, talking turtle, one eyed monster, the star cast, Visual effects etc., It's as if the makers were focused primarily on adding as much to the mix as possible.
It's a visual extravaganza for sure, but in the end isn't as engaging as one intend it to be, not by a long shot. I can't pin-point any single aspect because it fails on so many levels. For one the talent of so much star cast seemed to have been wasted. Is it the script? Is it the less than stellar songs and BGM? Is it the mismatch between the stars and the script? You decide. What I can say is that it failed to keep me engaged. Goes to show, just throwing in huge sum of money for extravagant sets, visual effects, big stars is not enough to create a successful movie.
Having said all of this I still gave it 4 stars for the bold attempt, which even though is a failed one. I really wished for this movie to match the hype surrounding it because at the end of the day I want our movie makers to think outside the box and such movies are hard to come by these days. I hope the makers can at least get the money they spent on it back, because I don't want the industry to get discouraged from making such movies.

A needed change in Vijay's movie career. Fantasy which has been less explored, the director has a decent imagination for a kid swapping Cartoon channels. Fantasy can be anything, as long as one can show it with visual appeal, and so is the VFX visually grand. Its almost like Disney created the movie with a dialectic touch of the south.
Since backed by a simple plot, the direction gets even simpler. The way the story is told is for just one good watch. While one cannot miss to criticize the lack of character and method adaptation from the lead actor, it is acknowledged that, there is an effort made.
Music not so compulsive to the ears if one has a wide imagination of background scores folding up parallelly while watching any movie. Songs are over-employed for the sake of it. Directors need to have the fist to ignore them, instead of pushing them into screen as some Kollywood movie mandate element.
Even a black mind can be filled with vivid colors, and visually a good treat. Comparison with other movies will be a stupid mind activity. Baahubali, Puli are different. If Baahubali is from the land, then Puli is depcited to be like the one from the Sky. You don't know what the Sky has in it without exploration, and one has to at the least appreciate the imagination of the director before pulling the tiger's tail.
The dialogues are lamely sensible and do not pitch well for the story that is Puli.
There's a lot done with what is totally mad. How does one not recognize the attempt crazy, if a madman wears a doctor's coat?
Overall, some more experiments could have parred the movie to a decent run and reception. Though 'Puli' a title not suitable, but there is some cat roar and is well heard through distances.

I expected a minimum level of entertainment when I decided to watch the show in the first day itself. Also the campaigns for the promotion of the movie added much weight to the expectations, which always highlighted the big names casted in the film.
Yes! The thread had a lot of potential. Even though it was a centuries old storyline in the fantasy genre. A hero, going on a hunt to retrieve his love from a scary castle. A lot of hurdles on the way, lot of fantasy creatures, and never seen before places to pass through.... There was more than enough room for an Adventure, action packed visual treat in the given plot. Even with this familiar fantasy thread, the movie could have been made a memorable one, with a strong screenplay and some advanced cinematography and editing. Even the background scores and the songs were well below the average, which made it painful for the audience.
Starting 3-4 scenes, had somewhere some resemblance with bahubali. I am not complaining, but this is what i felt. Again, the camera didn't seem to use any kind of tints to create a feel of ancient days. Video as well as the audio department failed pathetically in taking the audience to another world. Even switching between scenes was not fluidic. The frames which displays the title for the first time and the introduction scene of the hero were at wrong timings, and couldn't generate any punch. The nicely trimmed hair of hero again added artificiality in the age in which the story happens. The costumes and make-up was not that bad , but lack of that colored tint in the scenes revealed that the materials were all modern.
In many occasions, we could feel the resemblance with many famous fantasy movies, and it was expected. The castle area appeared to have been adapted from the prince of Persia video game, and some monsters, weapons, and some fight sequences adds strength to that belief. Any one who have played that game(warrior within) would have come across the same feelings when he watch this movie. This opinion is just my own feelings and i don't want to argue about this.
Anyway, there were some occasions, or moments which gives the idea that direcion was not completely dry. And in many scenes VFX could show its potential too. Graphics was strong, but couldn't make its use to the best extent. Writer had good idea and good level of imagination and failed badly in the execution part. With this much amount of money and a proved set of actors, the movie fell miles short of a masterpiece.

Let me tell u this in the beginning itself. This is one of the worst Tamil movies ever made. And wait. Some one else told here that this movie deserves and Oscar. Please man. I hope you 've out of asylum. This is movie was completely senseless. Vijay has no expressions on his face and is completely dull. Poor screenplay. Poor direction. In fact I think he dint even direct the movie. Worst music. Except one song every other songs in the movie seem to be "Kuthu". Can some one please explain me which music director will put such songs for a fantasy movie. And the other actors are also completely wasted. No one is given importance in this film . Just a usual masala flick with nonsense written all over it

Just clueless work done by the director.. Can appreciate Vijay for attempting something different in his career. But not matured enough. Music by DSP is complete disaster i should say. Forgettable movie for Vijay, worst than Sura. Shruthi voice is really not good to hear. Hansika was gorgeous though wasted by using for 1 song. Sridevi will definitely regret for opting this movie over Bahubali. Sudeep's potential unused.
Chimbu Devan being an director of historical movies failed even in costume design and script. very childish & dragging characters used.
Even VJ fans where not satisfied after seeing movies like Thupakki and Kathi.

Often Indian cinema is sheer fantasy, trying to spin the unbelievable into a story and script. And some Tamil films -- at least those that step into the genre of fantasy -- can be just unbearable to watch. Vijay, fantasy adventure Puli, despite all the hype it created in its release weeks, is utterly disappointing.There is one scene early on in the movie where the general chops off the arm of a man (Prabhu) who had been courageous enough to seek the Queen's help to end the tyranny. It reminded me of Gabbar Singh and that famous shot where he decapitates Thakur's arm. But Sudeep is no Amjad Khan.At 154 minutes, Puli is swamped with songs -- some of them titillating skins shows, and a few others, a mere ploy to get Maru Dheeran and his lover, Pavazhamani (Shruti Haasan), together on a romantic high. But there is little chemistry between the two, Vijay's stiffness and Haasan's laboured dialogue delivery making it just about impossible for Cupid to strike any real note.

First of all, the movie is not worst!! The main thing that spoils the film is screenplay...This is the fantasy adventure drama don't look for logics...Anything can done here...But worst thing here is unwanted songs in various sequence which made you to feel bored.When compared to first half, its full of fun and romance,the second half is much better...The director has completely failed to use the various popular artist which can be done better..But it will be loved by children when compared to adults...The VFX and CG is at best for the budget of the movie....one time watch-able!for the brave attempt in Indian cinema and for vjay screen presence!!

There is nothing much to write about this movie. A predictable storyline with no redeeming factor whatsoever. One of Vijay's worst show so far. He looks absolutely wooden. The ever reliable DSP has churned out the worst music. A black mark for Sudeep too. But the shock for me is that Sridevi decided to be a part of this movie. The director should be commended for getting the worst out of stalwarts. The VFX at some rare places is good but mostly amateurish. I would have rated this movie higher if it was made with newcomers. But with such great names on the cast and crew list, this should get negative stars. A much hyped movie with no substance and zero entertainment value, avoid by all means.

I would just like to highlight few pros and cons and then finally ending up with my conclusion.
Pros: Boldness to make a fantasy film. VFX Vijay Cineamtography Art Direction
Cons: Screenplay Music Wasted the cast's potential
Opinion:
It is a fantasy film and they mentioned that it is a "Family entertainer". Let's say they tried doing a Disney- style film which didn't excel, but common it is a good attempt and encouraging these kinds of movies is something that I would love to. Now let me share my opinion.
Simbudevan tried giving a family entertainer with a unique movie genre that South Indian Industry is afraid to venture into. Also, I believe that he wanted to direct the overall story a simple one. But, the problem arises when the other small stories come into play where the main story of the movie gets saturated. however, if that's the case and he wanted to direct a typical commercial film, then the movie would have become a fantasy story tailored only for Vijay and it would have been a typical "Commercial" movie with just the word fantasy added in front.
No way I am telling this movie is Awesome. If people want a "Solid Mass commercial packed action fantasy drama film", then there is good chance for them to get disappointed. But, if people look this as enjoyable fantasy film that they would love to watch and appreciate or want too enjoy this with their family, then do give it a try.
I do support and like this movie, but, my request to Simbudevan is that that we need these kinds of movies and when you are planning to direct in this genre, please make a unique story coz we are known for fantasies and we can definitely make a "World Class Movie". And director like you, it is definitely possible.
So basically, I Liked it very much but not Loved it for sure. Even when I tried watching it 'open- minded', it did not get me intrigued enough throughout the movie. All I can say is go with an open mind and you will like it. I would also like to appreciate the entire Puli team to give us this genre of Tamil movie after a long time.

Overall----> To put in a nutshell, a journey(Movie) which was supposed to be amazing got tiring a bit due to many diversions(Screenplay) in the forest. Puli's roar is not majestic enough, but, it did try really hard.

I went expecting a fantasy film and it seemed like one to me. I did enjoy it.
Pros:
1) Loved the VFX, new in Tamil cinema. 2) It was entertaining. 3) There was a story line. 4) Songs were required to flaunt the visual effects and the amount of effort gone into making the costumes.
Cons:
1) The movie was lavish, cheap and dirty comedy dialogues made me cringe (there are better ways to compare a lady's beauty with poetry). 2) Kodangi's first night fiasco was disgusting. 3) Sridevi's potential was not fully utilized. 4) Script could have been better to keep the audience occupied.

Sorry VIJAY,you must try next time for the blockbuster movie.Many of VIJAY fans say that this film must get Oscar award,I like to ask to them that if they would know the value of Oscar award.This film may get a large stardom, so there will be collection but not for the story only for the stars.Chimbudevan,why have you made a cartoon movie for VIJAY. This movie can be a entertainer but it's not he success of the movie. Need to spend 3 hours laughing.. Then this one is the best option... The story line is a copy of many Hollywood films... Irritating Jingiliya song... Terrible BGM... Film is only for children less than 10 years old.. Of course a good try.. But next time mention the genre as comedy.. Not as fantasy... Vijay is a class actor... After Thupakki and kaththi these type of films are just reducing the interest towards him..Shruthi Hasan's voice is just irritating.. Thank god she don't speak often.. Hansikha's role is just a time pass.. Vijay's fight with black cat is terrible...Total waste of time and money.. #PULI_hilarious_fantasy_ever

This is one of the worst Tamil movies ever made. Very very poor graphics. It is very difficult to point out what's good in the film as there is so much ameturishness and mediocrity in it. Anyways, here it goes. The film has been nicely shot and cinematography by Natty is top notch. The VFX work to create lilliputian characters and the giant tortoise is commendable. Vijay's dancing skills are a relief in otherwise lackluster songs. Vijay has great comic timing and is ably supported by Thambi Ramaiah and Sathyan. Few action scenes in the film have been brilliantly shot like the fight between Vijay and the giant, on top the maze of pointed needles at the courtyard. And the scene where Vijay walks through the hell fire and comes out unscathed is praiseworthy. But alas these scenes are few and far in between.
BUT THEN THE BAD THINGS !! Now where should I start? The clichéd plot of the film borrows all the fantasy elements from previously made hit films and knits an incoherent screenplay without putting much thought to the proceedings. The lack of novelty could have been ignored if the treatment of the story was fresh and entertaining. But the film plays out to be unintentionally hilarious all thanks to the makers who consider fans as 8 year old kids high on candy. There is no doubt that Puli is U rated as it is apt for 6-8 year old kids and it assaults our intelligence with kiddish stuff. I mean mild comedy with lilliputians and a giant tortoise barfing might make kids giggle but it feels like WTF to us adults who have grown up watching classic fantasy films like Chronicles of Narnia. Even if you try to look over the wafer thin plot, you are attacked by garish make up and tacky costumes. VFX is not the highlight of the film as it seldom appears to be of high standards. Sridevi, who makes her comeback in Tamil films, has absolutely nothing to do other than look arrogant and evil. While her costumes might give you creeps, she hardly has 15 minutes of screen time and has less than 10 dialogues in the film. It baffles me why a veteran actress like Sridevi resort to play such a demeaning and worthless role. Kiccha Sudeep, the Kannada superstar, who impressed us in Rajamouli's Eega is stuck in a typical villainous role. His role is so poorly written that it makes him look like mere caricature. Sudeep and Vijay's climax fights might induce a few unintentional laughs. Shruti Haasan plays sleeping beauty in more than half of the film and despite of her beautiful looks, her harsh voice makes you wanna close your ears. Hansika is there in the film for namesake as she just adds glamour in couple of songs. Coming to the songs, Devi Sri Prasad's music is not that great and it becomes very hard not to walk out of the theatre during the long drawn song sequences. The film is too long and has very little meat to hold it through for two and a half long hours. The jokes in the film are at times so childish that it makes you laugh at the film instead of laughing along with the film. Overall, it is a pathetic attempt at fantasy filmmaking by Chimbu Devan.
You must have heard the caption 'Save the tiger'. What is good about this movie. I really don't know. Probably it is funny for kids. Cheap comedy, cheap jewellery. Sridevi is old but I only liked her when she was young. How can someone even compare this movie to Baahubali. Baahubali - Each and every frame was magical. Glad that I did not go to theater. Vijays fights typically look like dummy fights where as Baahubali actors got trained in fighting. Vijay has no personality or nothing impressive about him. May be his fans might like this movie but it is hell to watch this movie. The comedy is hardly comedy. The story was good but screenplay is very cheap and bad. Nothing interesting, the movie just goes on. The screenplay is stale.

U can watch baahubali second time instead. Waste of time...don't watch it. First of all it does not suit vijay as expected. Also the graphics are not that great. Story is a drag. Sudeep is wasted. You cannot compare his performances in naan E with this. He is simply wasted. Sreedevi is OK and shruthi haasan is just for glamour. Nothing more. In some of the graphics...it feels like a comics book...man u guys need to spend more money, effort and time to get the output. Don't even compare this to baahubali. For vijay, its good that he wanted to do a different role than the usual masala roles but it did not work out for him. Better luck next time Vijay

Chimbudevan wasted the golden opportunity. Vijay have done well. Vfx and Visual Effects are good. But bad screenplay, Boring Script. Only Kids under age of 10 will love this movie. Most of the scenes are inspired from brave heart, Temple run and Mario games. Vijay looking smart and cute. But Director have wasted many of the main characters like shruthi, sridevi, hansika, sudeep and thambi ramaya. Chimbudevan have done his previous film with good script and comedy. But Puli movie is suffering from poor script and humor less comedy. Director didn't concentrate on script. Fantasy Movie always required attracting script and logic. But Chimbu only concentrate the Vijay's Hero Image, Visual Effects and Vfx. Movie mainly took for helping the political career of Vijay.

People who gives negatives about the film is totally disagree. Firstly we should have the mind to appreciate new things what they have achieved and support their effort. If don't have such mindset please don't speak up ! The film has fantastic CG work which is not lesser to Hollywood movies maybe 80% they have achieved ! Hats Off The movie lacks in Storyline and screenplay - Yes ! Director could have tried to keep the storyline simple and make the Visual grandeur. So people says there is no content, they have worked out 100% for Visual magic here..
Also for a Fantasy adventure movie, you cannot expect Performance oriented or concept oriented. Its fun filled ride for families and kids - A Visual treat ! Music is not up-to the mark - Yes. The fault is there in Music department totally which doesn't gel with the fantasy genre ..
Also director tried to make a Tamil film which has Hollywood movie flavor, Hence its a first time people watching this, they feel its not up-to what they expected..
Apart from the General audience, people who hates Vijay started making fun out of this film and his effort is surely underestimated.
Vijay's commitment and hard work totally is Commendable! Way to go.. Younger generation actors will follow his path..

Puli : A blunder film with idiotic story and poor execution

Films like this make the Indian films look bad. This is the worst film from Tamil film industry in a while, even though not from Vijay. He made even worst films than this. This film underestimated the viewers in a deep level and checks the patience at high level.
I seen the film but I didn't like a bit from it. Not even the graphics because it doesn't matter for a film like this with the poor story and script. The story is usual revenge film includes killing parents, kidnapping lover(s),item songs,exploiting feminine dances, etc. is not at all interesting. Puli had high resemblance with the BAAHUBALI in a very bad way even though it is an adventure fantasy film. Directors like Chimbudevan must see films like BAAHUBALI to get an idea about the current path and quality of Indian films. Even if it take in Tamil film standard Puli will be the black sheep because Tamil films is peak at its film's variety, quality and intelligent. This Puli is enriched with cheap Humors, bad actions and non sensing punch dialogs. It looks like a pollachi made film with bad dress.
Please guys learn a lesson from this film and please not encourage them to make this kinda films for the sake of existence of film industry.

An fantasy movie which can be watched by all audience. The script isn't absolutely new or fabulous but still it is very much engaging. Chimbu Devun has come up with a very different story line. He deserves distinction marks for thinking up an engrossing screenplay which has masala for the audience and yet is not frivolous.
As might be evident, the first half of Puli isn't exactly riveting. It teeters between funny, spectacular and tragic, depending upon how keen-eyed the viewer is and how much acting is required of the cast. Chimbu Devn gives us a terrific interval point, and the film moves briskly in its second half. Though this swashbuckling adventure relies heavily on CGI and VFX, it doesn't lack emotional resonance. Computer graphics, animation and visual effects are top notch. Production and technical values are grand. Cinematography is excellent. The music is decent and works well in the films. The editing should have been better though.
Vijay shines in each and every scene of the film. He brings much by way of performance through his sheer intensity. We could not imagine anyone else playing this role with such ease. Sudeep does what he is famous for. Shruti Hassan looks pretty and acts well. Hanski Motwani does a decent job in her short presence. But it is Sridevi who steals the show with her brilliant performance. Her stunning and never seen before avatar will mesmerize the audience.

WEAKNESSES:- * Character names and places seems to be complicated for viewers. * Palace song was disaster but visuals were good.....
FINAL VERDICT:- * Overall.. it is a clean mass fantasy entertainer. We can't expect the VFX work to be in Hollywood standard but they tried their best. Puli, a much hyped movie taking cue from Baahubali comes on to the canvas. However, it disappoints almost on every piece of film crafting. Songs, BGM, Choice of yesteryear actress Sridevi, what not. Vijay looks comical throughout the movie. What to say about CG work?? Especially the graphics in Jingliya song are at lower standard than Hooplakidz animations. Only saving thing for the movie is presence of vijay, the TN superstar. Otherwise it would have been a disaster. Please don't waste money in watching this.

Good-only few scene of vfx (only 3-5 minute),Shridevi performance and
the sets of palace.
Bad- vijay bad acting,childlish performance of all actor except
shridevi also not any seriousness for act related to story very very
bad vijay acting specially he acting in a movie like a school performane in a event + Irritating songs + length of movie (155 minutes approximately ) + bad jokes + irritating bird in all movie + list are very big sorry guys i don't want to waste my time for such a shameful movie plz stay away from this movie

As for vijay fans its better, As for audiences for heroines it shows clearly we have missed the good actress genelia in this movie, A perpectualty of Tamil girl who shows small small things cuteness and good looking.. or at least actress Nazeria here wil fulfill the role as the lovable heroine of Tamil audiences.. as Vijay played a vital role - only his stability shows as half cooked, but as on today no one can replace the place of genelia, other than this actress no one wil be better to this role which the first half heroine done in this movie.
As in vijay's movie songs wil be the vital things, as we see the making of the song "yendi,yendi" vijay looks smart in the blue shirt, but in the real picture - due to some glamors - we are unable to watch the song know..with family.
Please producers & Directors - please select the people who wil be liked by the Tamil audiences & make the movie much more better.
