Documentary that will keep you hungry for more
Goblini are a band that was founded and rocked Serbian music stage at the time I had no idea what music was. I remember seeing their video "U magnovenju" on the national TV, but at the time was completely clueless on the importance of it. But, soon after that they stopped their work, Golub moved abroad, I went to high school, then university... And in 2010, the news boomed that they were gathering again and that their first concert was going to be in abac, at "abački letnji festival" (abac summer festival). I wasn't there, but I was told there were many buses with Croatian and other Balkan countries license plates, meaning people gathered and organised their transport and came to see and hear Goblini again. Then, a bit later, they played "Koncert godine" in Novi Sad. I heard from an insider that the crowd was mostly dressed in Goblini t-shirts and that they were the only band the crowd knew all songs of, although there were many, many more bands that are actively playing for decades now. So I started realising that Goblini are a phenomenon: a band that existed for 10 years during the '90s, had two albums at the time, hundreds of gigs, then they were gone for a decade, but when they returned to the stage the people still remembered them and wanted them to keep playing, maybe even more than before. If you think about it, a band with a 10-year-long break, with no advertisements, no new music, no concerts, is hard to survive, but Goblini managed it, and even more importantly, have a lot more to say.
To this day, Goblini regularly have concerts in Serbia and the neigbouring countries, but there's a catch: Golub, lead vocal, is in Asia. He flies to Serbia, arrives several hours prior to the concert, gives a stunning performance, and catches the first flight back and is gone for several months.
This documentary is a story of how Goblini started, and what took them to get where they are now. Band members, many of whom are no longer in the band but had an important role back in the days, managers, supporters, friends; videos; newspaper articles; are all here as a testimony of the greatness and the importance of one of the most important bands in newer history of Serbian music - GOBLINI.
