Kirill Käro: The Sniffer
Quotes
-
Psychiatrist : Children with autism are different. They have weak social ties. They live in their own world and don't like it when someone intervenes.
The Sniffer : Can autists be aggressive?
Psychiatrist : Only if someone tries disrupting their rituals or repeating actions. For example, flicking a switch like your boy.
-
The Sniffer : Where do these rituals come from?
Psychiatrist : An Autistic child chooses actions himself. He fixes them, repeats them and turns them into rituals. There are autistic children who need to spin something. Such a child who would use any object, e.g. a toy, as a spinner.
The Sniffer : Can you... introduce a new ritual?
Psychiatrist : You can only further develop the existing one, and only if the child likes the new action. Then he'll make it part of his ritual.
-
Col. Viktor Lebedev : Tell me, what's wrong with me?
The Sniffer : What do you mean?
Col. Viktor Lebedev : Yes, I'm no Brad Pitt, no oligarch or anyone else, but I'm a fine man anyway.
The Sniffer : What happened?
[pause]
Col. Viktor Lebedev : Nothing. I have to go.
-
The Sniffer : The kid never before threw a hairdryer in the water, but that morning he did. Why? Was that an accident or an addition to the ritual?
Col. Viktor Lebedev : What kind of ritual?
The Sniffer : Autistic children have their rituals, and any attempt to change them provokes aggression from the child; but, you can compliment the ritual and develop it further.
Col. Viktor Lebedev : What do you mean "develop?"
The Sniffer : Someone might have taught Igor to throw the dryer.
Col. Viktor Lebedev : How do we find out?
The Sniffer : We need to observe Igor. If he keeps throwing the dryer in the bathtub, that must be a complemented ritual.
-
The Sniffer : There were smells of four people around the body - Guskov, the nurse, the boy, and Novikov's sister. The killer is among them.
