Originally from Taiwan with they adhering to many of the customs and mores of their homeland, Mr. and Mrs. Chen - Li Bing and Meifeng - on the far side of middle age, operate an Asian curio stand in an open air public market somewhere in the US, friendly Mr. Chen well liked among the regular customers of the market. That mixture gets Mr. Chen into trouble when in what was meant as a gesture of friendship and familiarity, one practiced in Taiwan, he is arrested for child molestation in touching the private part of Joey, the preschool age son of market regulars, in the market's men's room. Beyond what to do about the criminal proceedings with neither option good for Mr. Chen, the family, which includes their westernized young adult son David, have to deal with the clash of cultures, David who has always felt quietly ashamed of his parents in their old world ways, that clash which takes on a new resonance when Mr. Chen reveals a lifelong secret.
