In ancient Roman religion and myth, Portunus (alternately spelled "Portunes") was the god of keys and doors, later associated with ports and harbors. Portunus is behind both opportunity and importunate or badly timed solicitations.
The US Army logo that appears on the cover of the prospectus Gennaro examines is doctored to resemble the double-faced head of the Roman god, Janus. "Janus" is the code-word used for the device Gennaro is hired to procure.
