Director Frank Dale Arroyo was influenced by the show Hannibal's cinematography when it came to shooting the styled food.
On the food motif, the director shared, "the color red and the food motifs were important because the film was ultimately about revenge and our take was it's a dish best served sweet. The film is all about not judging a book by its cover and I wanted to start it off with something foreshadowing the revenge and a bloody steak seemed perfect."
There are references to two Michael Jackson songs, Man in the Mirror and Billie Jean.
