- A controversy surrounding the defense puts Stone in the spotlight as Naz's trial reaches its climax.
- Det (Ret) Box has a drink at a bar and listens to two guys discuss plots for new cop shows. The next day he reviews the Andrea Cornish video and notices she appeared to be nervous about being followed.
In court Chandra Kapoor examines Trevor Williams. Williams explains he was with Dwayne Reed on the street outside Andrea's house. Weiss has no questions. Kapoor then questions Reed, wearing an orange prison suit. Reed has done 7 home break-ins with a knife and has a history of other violent crimes. Weiss has no questions.
Stone explains to Kapoor that Weiss is worried but is trying not to show the jury. Kapoor then questions the undertaker. He has had a previous knife violence incident and it cannot be verified where he went after leaving the gas station.
Stone gives Don Taylor a subpoena in an alleyway and angrily threatens Taylor with an ex-client from NewJersey, in response to their fitness club incident. Kapoor questions Taylor and brings out that he will be inheriting the $10million house. Taylor denies killing Andrea and is nonchalant about his gold-digging, he even applied for the estate before the funeral.
Box finds other video of Andrea leaving a restaurant and arguing with a man on the sidewalk. He forces the manager to give up the credit card receipts for that night.
Naz scrapes up his last crack for a hit.
Kapoor tells Stone she wants to call Naz to the stand, Stone says it is a mistake, they have already shown reasonable doubt and Naz could undo it all. In the holding cell, Kapoor asks Naz if he will do it, he agrees but needs a favour first.
Box meets an old buddy who runs a private Security firm, he asks him to get info on the credit card receipts. Kapoor buys condoms at a drug store then goes to a street drug dealer.
Naz is brought back to the Courthouse, suffering some withdrawal symptoms. Once again in the holding cell, Kapoor surreptitiously passes him a pill, and the package from her vagina.
On the stand, Naz is in his white shirt, Kapoor takes him through the night. Naz is calm, contrite and maintains his innocence. Helen Weiss goes on cross, she pressures Naz on his Adderall sales, the stolen cab, the details of the sex with Andrea, why he didn't call 911 and why he took the knife. Naz is left flustered and a little less sure. Kapoor then says the Defense rests.
Stone is pessimistic and tells Kapoor they have 0% chance of winning. Later, Stone brings the cat back to the Animal Shelter. On Friday, the Judge tells the jury to have an electronics- free weekend.
Naz gets a crown tattooed on his neck, Stone tosses the cat toys and litter box into a dumpster.
Box studies a list of phone numbers and calls. He underlines a series of calls from Raymond Halle. He tries to find out about a shooting in a strip club the year before. At a golf course he plays behind another group and watches them hole out. At a Casino, he plays slots and watches a young man do the same. At the bar Box introduces himself to Ray Halle, a financial advisor. Box remembers Halle had been shot in a strip club, then mentions Andrea Cornish. He shows the screenshot of Ray and Andrea arguing, and suspects the two had a relationship and probably unauthorized withdrawals from her trust fund. Halle leaves.
Freddy and Naz play cards, a new intake is brought in, Naz goes to speak to a nervous young man. He suggests he can get him some protection. Naz reports to Freddy the man is married.
Box reports his findings to Weiss, he shows a $300,000 withdrawal from Andrea's account, then a series of camera shots showing Halle's travels the murder night. Weiss doesn't take the new evidence.
In Rikers the guard gives Freddy a DVD showing Kapoor kissing Naz in the holding cell. Stone sees a package on his doorstep and watches the same video. Kapoor rehearses her closing argument. Stone goes to see Naz and says this could be grounds for a mistrial, and that Kapoor's career is probably over. Naz agrees to let Stone present the DVD. The judge watches the video with Weiss, Stone and Kapoor. He orders Stone to take over the Closing, who protests and has no luck pushing the mistrial. The disc will be given to the Legal Ethics Committee.
At a Chinese restaurant Stone runs into Box and says the video didn't work, Box denies it but Stone suspects Box has another lead in the case. Chandra Kapoor meets Alison Crowe, and is fired, after the trial.
Helen Weiss makes her closing statement, stressing Naz's blackout during the murder is a convenient excuse. Box is in the courtroom but leaves noisily when Weiss states Naz is the only suspect. She picks up the knife and points out the 22 stab wounds, then seems to pause as if in thought. In the evening Stone struggles with his draft Argument, his eczema breaks out. He takes a chlorine bath and goes to Emergency. The doctors toss out his Chinese herbal remedy, and hint this is stress-related.
In court, Stone wearing white gloves, speaks to the jury in plain fashion declaring Naz has the Constitutional Right of Presumption of Innocence Beyond a Reasonable Doubt. He acknowledges Naz stole a car, used illegal drugs, ran instead of reporting, made an illegal left turn, resisted arrest. However the murder case is only circumstantial and the police did not bother to investigate anyone else. Everyone then awaits the jury decision.
Naz is sent back to Rikers. Stone picks up a prescription but turns down the Viagra back order. Chandra cleans out her desk. Freddy reveals to Naz why he protected him, he sensed Naz had an innocence, and took care of him so as not to be a completely cold individual, Naz takes a hit of crack.
The next day the jury foreperson announces the jury is hung 6-6. The judge is upset. When offered, DA Helen Weiss declines to prosecute a re-trial. Stone tells Naz he is free. Chandra leaves the court. Weiss changes to sneakers and leaves, Box watches her.
Naz packs his stuff into a bag at Rikers and does his out routine. Freddy is in the gym punching the heavy bag, the guard passes on a gift to Naz, a paperback "Call of the Wild". Safir Khan is there to pick up his son, they hug on the sidewalk.
Box is working Campus Security. Weiss meets him and asks for his help to get Ray Halle.
Naz has an uneasy dinner at home with his family. He is upset his mother didn't support him. Naz goes out alone and meets Stone at a cafe in the Pakistani neighbourhood. The lawyer says life goes on and urges Naz to put it behind him and to disregard how others look at him. His old school friend comes in, the prosecution witness; Naz scares him off with a prison staredown. Stone takes a subway home, his advert, "no fee until you're free" is above the door. Naz takes crack at the same waterfront spot as the night of, and remembers sharing the moment with Andrea. Stone watches TV, a new client calls. An Animal Cruelty commercial plays, Stone goes to recover the cat.
