In the film, Kaspar is left bleeding in the snow and dies shortly after. He never has time to contact anyone for help. In real life, the injured Kaspar Hauser died 3 days following the stabbing incident. He interacted with several people and offered his own (inconclusive) clues about the identity of his killer.
The film depicts Kaspar Hauser stabbed by a shadowy figure, but otherwise offers no solution to the mystery of Kaspar's identity.
The film depicts the life and death of Kaspar Hauser (c. 1812-1833), a mysterious young man who claimed to have spend most of his life in solitary confinement. There were several theories on his real identity and family background. Hauser was discovered fatally stabbed on 14 December, 1833. He died days later, on 17 December. He claimed that he was stabbed by a stranger, but the authorities suspected that his wound was self-inflicted. The mystery concerning his life and death has never been resolved, but has inspired several books and films.
