Unlike the broadcast pilot this episode has several distinct differences. First , the scene where the earthquake occurs is at a bowling alley. Second Audri DuBois portrays Trini in this episode. Third, Zordon is called Zoltar . By the time the broadcast pilot was filmed several changes were made Thuy Trang took over the part due to DuBois quitting, the earthquake scene is moved to a juice bar, and Zoltar is renamed Zordon.
This episode didn't air on TV until four years after the original TV series ended. It was broadcast on the Fox Kids block only once as a TV special with Austin St. John & Walter Jones as the hosts presenting the "lost" episode along with a recap of the first five Power Ranger shows.
The original unaired pilot episode was created with a budget of 200.000 dollars. Fox Kids paid half of the amount (100.000) while Saban also paid half of the amount (100.000).
In the pilot "zords"are referred to as "droids" and "Megazord" is referred to as "Mega Dino Droid."
Bryan Dattilo auditioned for the role of Tommy Oliver but was cast as Lucas Roberts in Days Of Our Lives (1965) which prevented him from accepting the role.
