A beautiful black comedy, that explores the influence a parent's behavior has over their child.

I really enjoyed Cherokee. It's well shot and there's great performances from all of the cast. Rankin has a great ability, also present in his earlier work, of creating clean dialogue that's also absurdly funny. Particularly the dialogue he gives to the children which emulates the maturity of an adult. I really enjoyed these Brechtian moments as I felt I was sharing a laugh with Rankin. I felt like he was by my side, nudging me and pointing out just how crazy the situation was becoming. Cherokee is a perfect example of the high quality shorts that Melbourne's student film makers continue to make. I'm looking forward to what Jem Rankin produces in the future.
