This simple, understated film faithfully tells the story within "The Giving Tree," a small but important book written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein. First published in 1964, it is ostensibly a children's book, but, judging from casual observation, is much adored also by children who have managed to grow old (like myself).
I won't retell the story here - I heartily recommend that you watch this short video and, better yet, obtain a copy of the book, read it to yourself and to anyone who wants a sweet story about life as a human.
