Lexi Wolfe sent the script to Andy Wolfe hoping for a critique of her writing style. He immediately responded they should make the short movie together.
Slate Cafe in Shoreditch became a part of the film after Lexi Wolfe and Andy Wolfe met up with a photographer there. They liked the café so much, Lexi suggested later, when the chance to film Learning To Talk came up, that they should film the emotional scenes there.
The part of Bex was originally written for actress Rebekah Watson, but she turned down the role shortly before production. The part instead went to Nina Flitman, after she appeared in the play 'Pride' at the Questors Theatre in Ealing.
The film was nominated for two awards at the Short Film Awards, and won three from the International Independent Short Film Awards and the Best Shorts Competition.
Most of the actors involved in the film have, at some point, been members of The Questors Theatre in Ealing, London.
