Disappointed
Pegasus-1014 July 2021
... that this series didn't continue. Fresh faces (to this US viewer) helped keep my interest, and it would have been good to see how David and Kate interact following the change of power. Only aspect I wasn't too interested in was Matilda's plot line. Well done.

Party Tricks not just a 2 member party...

The main storyline for this six part political drama involves a scandal between Senator Kate Ballard (Asher Keddie) and media personality and journalist David McLeod (Rodger Corser) that threatens to become public in the middle of state election which of the two are running for Premier. On Team Kate is Wayne Duffy (Angus Sampson) as her spin doctor press secretary and Oliver Parkham (Charlie Garber) as her speech writer and close ally, Geoff Ballard(Colin Moody) is her husband and Paula Doumani (Doris Younane) is the Deputy premier and minister for transport. Team David has his Public Relations maven Charlotte Wynn (Ash Ricardo) and his only child teenage Matilda McLeod (Kaiya Jones) who is a social media savvy to help her dad. Then there's Tom Worland (Oliver Ackland) who just happens to be Oliver's live in boyfriend who is the state political reporter that might or might not strain his relationship with Oliver. Writer Michael Lucas of Offspring and Not Suitable For Children has another hit on his resume.

This short little series was just so good I wish there had been another season. Roger Corser and Asher Keddie have such great chemistry, a wonderful supporting cast, writing, directing, the whole thing comes together so well. Sad to see it never received it's due acclaim.

Asher Keddie and Rodger Corser

This resembles all elections which are filled with disclosures. People of the best qualities don't run for office fearing some long ago mistake. Here the disclosure that the candidates feared is the central plot point. The way that the reveal happens is why this film is unique and filled with surprises. Keddie can act as Corser can. It's top TV from Australia.

I didn't expect much, but the more I got into this series, the more I became enmeshed. Great character development, interesting plot line, the director splices together this story with talent and insight. Well done.
