Quotes

  • Mitsuki Usami : [Natsuki goes up to the front counter where the Proprietor and the other waitress, Kanna, are. Natsuki tries to get his attention]  Manager.

Hiroshi Sakota : [to Kanna]  It's that popular, huh?

Kanna Seki : You've never heard of it, manager?

    Hiroshi Sakota : Never have.

Mitsuki Usami : [still trying to get his attention]  Manager.

Hiroshi Sakota : Have you heard of it, Natsuki-chan?

Mitsuki Usami : Heard of what?

[Proprietor points to a photo of TV show Criminal Detective's lead actor in a publication about different television dramas]

Mitsuki Usami : Oh yeah, sure.

    Hiroshi Sakota : I guess everyone's heard.

Mitsuki Usami : By the way manager, what would you recommend?

Hiroshi Sakota : [He points to different part of the publication]  Personally, I like this War Without Delicacy.

Kanna Seki : [excited]  What? What is that?

Mitsuki Usami : I'm not talking about dramas.

    Hiroshi Sakota : Huh?

Mitsuki Usami : What would you recommend from the menu?

Hiroshi Sakota : I recommend everything.

Mitsuki Usami : [Natsuki returns to Eda's table]  I'm told everything is recommended.

Eda Wakare : I see... in that case... what would you recommend out of everything that is recommended?

Mitsuki Usami : [long pause]  One moment please.

[She returns to the front counter]

  • Mitsuki Usami : [Natsuki has returned to the front counter after being unable to get an answer from Eda on what he wants from the menu. The Proprietor and Kanna the waitress continue to discuss the TV drama Criminal Detective]  Manager.

Hiroshi Sakota : [to Kanna]  What is it about?

Kanna Seki : You see, he's a detective, but he's also a criminal.

Hiroshi Sakota : So he's a bad cop.

Kanna Seki : No, no, he's not. He's a really good cop. He has a strong sense of justice. But he also commits extremely horrible crimes.

Hiroshi Sakota : I get it. He's a reformed criminal that became a detective.

Kanna Seki : No, no, that's not it.

    Hiroshi Sakota : No?

Kanna Seki : He's always been a detective

Hiroshi Sakota : *He's always been a detective?*

Kanna Seki : He's always been a detective, but he's extremely evil.

Hiroshi Sakota : I don't get it at all.

Mitsuki Usami : [still trying to get Proprietor's attention]  Manager.

Hiroshi Sakota : [to Natsuki]  What kind of story is it?

    Mitsuki Usami : Well... he's a criminal, but he's a detective

Hiroshi Sakota : Oh. In other words, he's a criminal pretending to be a detective.

Mitsuki Usami : No, that's not it.

Hiroshi Sakota : It's not? What is this? It's way over my head.

Mitsuki Usami : Never mind that. What would you recommend out of everything recommended?

Hiroshi Sakota : [repeating]  What would I recommend out of everything recommended?

[He points to another listing in the same publication as earlier]

Hiroshi Sakota : It'd have to be *Planet of the Middle Aged*.

Kanna Seki : [excited]  *Planet of the Middle Aged*?

Mitsuki Usami : I'm not talking about dramas.

    Hiroshi Sakota : The menu?

    [Natsuki nods]

  • [Opening of Criminal Detective TV show plays]

TV Narrator : *Sometimes he commits crimes, sometimes he busts criminals. Who is he? Is he a detective, or is he a criminal? He walks the tightrope of good and evil, and baffles the world. They call him the Criminal Detective.*

    [Shirube changes the channel]

Kanna Seki : Hey. Shirube-san, don't change the channel.

    Michio Shirube : Huh?

Kanna Seki : I was watching that.

Michio Shirube : You were watching that?

    Kanna Seki : Yes.

Michio Shirube : But it's so confusing.

Hiroshi Sakota : I hear it's quite popular.

Michio Shirube : Is that right? What's the story about?

    Kanna Seki : He's a detective, but he's a criminal, you see?

Michio Shirube : What does that mean? He's a reformed detective who's become a criminal?

Kanna Seki : No, no, he's always been a detective, but he's really bad.

Michio Shirube : I don't get it at all.

  • Eda Wakare : [Last lines. Eda looks at camera, narrating]  Maybe it was me who made the wrong choice.

Mitsuki Usami : [interrupting]  Have you decided?

Eda Wakare : Oh sorry. I've decided.

    [looking at menu]

Eda Wakare : Let's see... The manager's recommendation: Set B.

    Mitsuki Usami : Right away.

[she bows to him before going back up to the front counter]

Mitsuki Usami : Manager, he's decided. The manager's recommendation: Set B.

Hiroshi Sakota : We're not serving that anymore.

[Dumbfounded, Natsuki's notepad slips out of her hands and falls to the floor. Eda, looking at the camera, blinks dazedly, and returns to looking at menu to find another selection]
