Throughout the safer-at-home order, hundreds of actors, musicians and the most powerful insiders in show business have been spending their socially distanced weekends on Quarantunes, one of the most exclusive A-list parties on Zoom.
The brainchild of William Morris Endeavor agent Richard Weitz and his 17-year-old daughter Demi, Quarantunes began as a way to celebrate Demi’s birthday before it became Hollywood’s go-to virtual event while mass physical gatherings are off-limits. It’s become a major fundraiser too. Starting with a $10,000 GoFundMe goal for Los Angeles’s Saban Community Clinic with various donor partners,...

J.D. Dillard to Helm Black Label Media’s Korean War Epic ‘Devotion’ Starring Glen Powell (Exclusive)
J.D. Dillard has signed on to helm Korean War epic “Devotion,” starring “Top Gun: Maverick” actor Glen Powell, sources tell Variety.
The film, from Black Label Media, is an aerial war epic that tells the harrowing true story of two elite U.S. Navy fighter pilots, Tom Hudner and Jesse L. Brown, during the Korean War. Their heroic sacrifices would ultimately make them the Navy’s most celebrated wingmen.
Powell will star as Hudner, whose life — along with Brown’s — was chronicled in Adam Makos’ book “Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice,” upon which the movie is based. Jake Crane and Jonathan Stewart wrote the screenplay. Blm’s Molly Smith, Rachel Smith, Thad Luckinbill and Trent Luckinbill will produce.
Dillard is best known for his debut feature film “Sleight,” which premiered at Sundance in 2016 and was acquired by WWE Studios and Blumhouse. His second film, “Sweetheart,” starring Kiersey Clemons,...

Melina Duterte (a.k.a. Jay Som) makes music that often gets lumped in with that intimately delicate, richly interior kind of indie-rock called “bedroom pop.” If that’s accurate, she’s got a pretty big bedroom.
Few artists these days are so good at turning their private worlds into wide-open biospheres of pleasure and discovery. Duterte’s excellent third LP Anak Ko follows her 2017 breakthrough Everybody Works, on which she gave her ethereal lo-fi musings an almost Brian Eno-esque richness, mixing in Eighties R&b, soft-rock, shoegaze, chillwave...

Dani Shapiro’s New York Times-bestselling memoir “Inheritance” is getting a movie adaptation at Killer Films with Cami Delavigne on board to write the script, Variety has learned exclusively.
The memoir, titled “Inheritance: A Memoir of Genealogy, Paternity, and Love,” centers on Shapiro’s discovery, after taking a commercial DNA test on a whim, that the man she’d known her whole life as her father was not biologically related to her. Shapiro goes on to uncover the truth about her identity, which had been kept from her for more than 50 years.
“Inheritance” will be produced by Pamela Koffler and Killer Films. Shapiro will executive produce along with Beverly Rogers.
Killer Films’ producing credits include the Oscar-nominated films “Still Alice,” “Carol,” “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Far From Heaven.” TV credits include the HBO miniseries “Mildred Pierce,” featuring Kate Winslet and Guy Pearce, which won five Emmys.
Shapiro also wrote the memoirs “Hourglass,...

The Taiwan Film Institute has released a two-minute (but nonetheless impressive) clip demonstrating the before and after of the digital restoration process for Hou Hsiao-hsien's 1982 film Cheerful Wind, a romantic comedy that follows the relationship between a photographer and the blind man who becomes the subject of her latest work. Though Cheerful Wind seems a more lighthearted example, Hou's observations of the political skeleton that envelops everyday life appear to be an overall and very strong influence on Devotion, an atmospheric horror video game by Taiwanese studio Red Candle Games. Set in Taiwan between 1980 to 1986, the game pairs a bloodied tale of family and religion against a backdrop of political suppression—the timeline takes place during the last days of Taiwan's White Terror, a period of martial law from 1947 to 1987, marked by the mass execution and imprisonment of thousands deemed anti-government, spies, or communist sympathizers. Hou Hsiao-hsien's A City of Sadness...

Beach House have premiered a live concert film depicting their August 23, 2018 performance at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre. Produced by Pitchfork, the film, titled “Beach House Live at Kings Theatre,” spans an hour and 30 minutes and includes songs from the band’s entire catalogue, including last year’s album 7.
In the film, band members Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally perform an extensive setlist stretching back to their 2008 album Devotion. The performance, which features dim lights and a moody vibe, showcases the group’s signature dream pop in both close-up stage shots and crowd shots.

A hidden joke involving Winnie the Pooh and China has caused a great deal of trouble for horror game Devotion.
Horror game Devotion has shockingly been removed from Steam following recent controversy surrounding it and the review bombs it resulted in.
At present, it's not possible to download Devotion from Steam (or anywhere else for that matter). In a statement on Steam, the developers mention that this is due to some technical issues with the title, but also acknowledge that it will help to "ease the heightened pressure in our community resulted from our previous Art Material Incident."
The "Art Material Incident" that the developers mention refers to an in-game joke involving Secretary Xi Jinping and Winnie the Pooh that led to the title being review bombed online. This whole thing started when developer some users noticed that one of the posters in Devotion featured some writing...

From the makers of Detention comes an intriguing slice of East Asian folklore called Devotion.
Red Candle Games, the developers of the brilliant indie horror game, Detention, have revealed their next project.
Titled Devotion, this project is both thankfully reminiscent of Detention and a surprisingly ambitious departure from what came before. Batting for the familiar is the game's use of an East Asian settting and foklore. This particular title takes place in Taiwan sometime during the '80s and tells the story of a deeply religious family that was burdened - perhaps even cursed - by their beliefs. You play a family member who must explore the family apartemnt and discover somedark truths.
The big change this time around is that Devotion plays out from a first-person perspective whereas Detention was a largely 2D minimalistic title. While the change in perspective may be attributed to an increase in resources and experience,...
