- Sylvester is seriously injured when he accidentally triggers an explosive device during an investigation, and Team Scorpion searches for who is responsible.
- Gabe puts Walter's team on Javier's ruthless Latino robbers gang, who expertly use twenty custom-made explosive charges. One of their set of five bombs during a bank robbery goes off and lands already paranoid Sylvester in hospital. Now it's personal. The teams speculates on a next bank job, but comes to realize the charges only suffice to scare banks into evacuating their cash by armored truck, which won't withstand them.—KGF Vissers
- The FBI calls genius help to deal with "The Ghosts", an international, ruthless gang of thieves, who broke into a complex system safe from a warehouse, presumably a test how to handle this top-notch model at a nearby bank. During the investigation, Sylvester ends up seriously injured after accidentally triggering an explosive device that was left behind. Not only does the team have to keep their composure as their friend is in critical condition in the hospital and do his math work, they must work with Interpol and remain focused on finding the culprits by guessing their MO. Meanwhile, returned father Drew grows closer to Ralph and also wants to get close with Paige again, rendering Walter somewhat jealous.—KGF Vissers
- A crew of three masked gunmen break into a safe manufacturing company. After shooting the manager, they open a safe by placing a small glass of water on the door. Then they toss tiny explosive devices around the room, killing another employee on the way out.
At the Scorpion garage, Drew brings Ralph home from an overnight with his new Erector set. Walter is judgey. Drew asks Paige in private if she wants to get dinner. Knowing that the team is eavesdropping, she asks to think about it.
Cabe calls them to the crime scene when he says a friendly hello to Agent Simone Taylor from Interpol. She thinks they're on the trail of "the Ghost," a highly sophisticated gang of thieves for hire.
She shows them the safe they breeched, which uses new technology. Walter explains that the safe is wound so tight that when the combination is reached, the slight shift in tension would cause the water to ripple.
They're assuming the Ghost is going to rob a bank using the safe.
Simone explains the tiny explosive devices left behind have acid to kill any DNA and oil to wipe out any prints.
Sylvester tells Walter he doesn't think they're best suited for going after these types of people. Walter takes note. Sylvester nervously arranges boxes nearby and uncovering an IED. Before Simone can warn him, it explodes, blasting Sylvester to the ground.
At the hospital, the doctor explains that he's in surgery with burns and a bruised brain. The doctor isn't terribly reassuring. Walter calls his sister Megan to wait for Sylvester while the team works the case. Cabe worries the emotion of the case will cloud things for Walter, but he reminds Cabe he doesn't work that way.
Back at the garage, Toby is having a hard time focusing while Walter presses on. Outside, Toby tells Happy he's known Sylvester since he was 16 and one time Sylvester sold his entire comic book collection to pay Toby's rent. Toby's worried he won't ever get to pay him back.
At the hospital, the doctors have to wait to see the extent of damage to Sylvester's brain. The 1 inch piece of shrapnel near his heart was stopped by his sternum, or he'd be dead. Megan asks to show the shrapnel to Walter.
The team goes to the hospital. Simone has never had a piece of the shrapnel to examine before, but the chunk they have is intact because it was in Sylvester. Happy recognizes the process fixing the plastic to the metal and suggests three car guys who could do it. Toby winnows the list to the guy named Dirty John Tucker who did time.
Cabe drags Dirty John to the garage and sits him down next to Toby, who's handcuffed like he's a perp. Cabe approaches Toby with a scalpel and jams it into Toby's thigh and Simone takes Toby away screaming. Dirty John is ready to talk.
Happy just happened to have a fake blood pack and retractable knife on hand. Toby's fine, of course.
Dirty John tells Simone and Cabe about this client ordering 20 of the boxes, but he doesn't know his name. He IDs Javier from a mug shot Simone has of the Ghost ringleader. He describes Javier as being out of control, which doesn't fit his MO. Walter thinks he's rattled.
With five devices left, they look at vault in the smallest square footage.
At the hospital, Sylvester suffers a grand mal seizure.
Walter takes the news coolly and Simone goes to talk to him. Javier shot her partner seven years ago, putting him in a wheelchair. She tells Walter he'll be allowed to grieve, just not now.
Downstairs, Happy has reviewed all the vaults but none of them are small enough for the blast radius of the five remaining canisters. They wonder if maybe the safe company attack was an announcement to scare anyone with something in that kind of safe into moving it. They track down an armored car company with a new booking for safe deposit box transport. The client in Huertavas, which Simone explains is a Venezuelan cartel leader who double-crossed the Ghost a few years ago after hiring them to steal $100 million from a rival. The rumor is the money has been converted into diamonds, which would fit in a safe deposit box.
The armored car left the bank five minutes ago. As the car company boss is calling the driver, the Ghost attacks the van, killing the driver and other guard. They detonate the devices and take off with the diamonds.
Scorpion pulls up three minutes after the attack and follows them.
At the hospital, Sylvester wakes up.
Cabe follows the three Ghost team members on bikes and they run into Simone's car. Walter gets out and tries to grab one of the thieves, but gets elbowed in the face. He manages to wedge his phone into the thief's backpack and they track it.
Cops report to the location but so no sign of the bikes. Walter realizes they're near the aqueduct and the thieves went underground. Walter directs Cabe to where the aqueduct lets out and he comes up behind them. Happy hops out of the car, which is having trouble following the speedy, maneuverable bikes.
One thief turns and fires on Simone's SUV then drops his gun.
Happy grabs a giant wrench out of a nearby work vehicle and waits for Cabe to chase the thieves past her. She waits until the right second and smashes the cap off a fire hydrant. The water spray takes out the two bikers.
Simone follows the third biker into a warehouse and Walter rushes in (unarmed) after him. Javier makes it up to the roof. He starts to climb down a metal fire escape, but it falls away from the wall. With Cabe, Paige and others on the ground below, Javier grabs onto the roof ledge and begs Walter to help him. Walter hesitates.
He finally grabs for Javier but it's too late, and the ringleader slips from his grasp and falls several stories, crushing a car below as diamonds spray out all around him.
Later, Cabe worries about Walter, who says he doesn't feel bad about what happened. "You know me, you know I don't have those kinds of feelings," Walter says.
The team visits Sylvester in the hospital. Toby brings Sylvester the first 50 editions of his favorite Super Fun guy comics, finally repaying him. The team leaves to let Sylvester rest, but Walter has a brain teaser for him. He gives Sylvester the dimensions of a man trying to lift another man at a certain angle. Sylvester recognizes it as what Megan told him happened on the roof. He says Javier would have pulled him over, which Walter notes he didn't know when he hesitated.
When Walter leaves Sylvester has a panic attack about the fact that he never felt safe anywhere except Scorpion, and now not even there. Megan promises not to tell Walter and to help him through it.
In the hall, Walter runs into Simone, who asks him out for a drink to celebrate finally catching Javier.
Paige and Drew go on their date, milkshakes and fries. But Drew can tell her mind is somewhere else. She asks for a rain check.
Over drinks, Simone is into Walter and mentions her plane doesn't leave til the morning. He tells her he's flattered, but there's somewhere else he needs to be.
Paige shows up at the hospital to find Cabe and the entire team are already sitting around Sylvester as he sleeps.
