Vengeance is the order of the day as the hospitalized killer from The Grand Hotel case escapes his police guard in obsessed, continued pursuit of Baron Henry Fisher. The escape coincides with the murder of prize-winning scientist Quentin Tode, felled by a difficult-to-identify poison. The two incidents appear strongly connected, but as Phryne figuratively sprints non-stop to protect her father's life, Dot and Hugh contend with Father O'Leary, whose caustic Irish nature makes him an astonishing prime suspect in the killing, and a formidable stumbling block (even out of jail) in the couple's marriage plans. In the same time Phryne and Jack continues their relationship and recognize their feelings for eachother.
