A Moroccan-scented film that, at least, does something minimally satisfying.
filipemanuelneto22 September 2022
When I decided to see this movie, I thought it was Moroccan. I haven't seen many Moroccan films, if any. However, when I went to read about it, I discovered that, despite the aroma, it is actually a very American film: directed and written by Aziz Tazi, a Moroccan who lives in California, it is overwhelmingly spoken in English and the actors are almost all Americans.

The film has a good story, but it has some problems. It begins with the meeting between Frank and Sarah, a young Moroccan girl. When romance begins to gain strength, she decides to take him to her country, to know the land and her family. However, a tragic incident occurs, in which the local police end up shooting Sarah. Charged with murder, Frank will serve time in the US. In prison, he goes on a journey of moral and spiritual rediscovery, hoping to prove his innocence and punish the culprits of his personal tragedy.

The script has some sugary moments, but I took it well. I had more difficulties with the non-linear narrative and flashbacks: I think the film dispensed the intensive use of this resource. But where I really believe the script failed was the sheer amount of illogical details: for example, Sarah's mother's house looks like a rich people's palace, her father never shows up, and never her mother, nor Sarah herself, wears the Islamic veil, although Islamic states usually impose it (or strongly recommend it). I also can't imagine where in the US you can have a prison with a Muslim population as relevant as the one in this film (except maybe Guantánamo). After all, there are very few practicing Muslims in the US.

The actors' work is satisfactory: Sean Stone and Sarah Alami have good chemistry together and work well as a romantic couple. They're not brilliant, but they do what it takes. The rest of the cast is not so good: I liked Laouni Mouhid and Ricco Ross, but I'm still not sure why Ivana Nguyen's character was created. She appears little and has no relevance. Finally, Mickey Rourke, Patrick Kilpatrick and Eric Roberts have reason to forget this film: I know they played some obnoxious villains, but in addition to being very superficial, they histrionically overacted all the time.

Technically, the best thing that the film presents us is the way Tazi dominates the flashbacks, although he exaggerates a lot in their use. I also really liked the sets and filming locations. I believe that part of the film was shot in Morocco, and that gives the film greater authenticity. Furthermore, I also enjoyed hearing people speak a language other than English. These details are important to me, and I learned to appreciate them. Unfortunately, the cinematography is very regular, and the editing is relatively poor. Also, the soundtrack is never able to stand out or add value to the film.

Bad acting, but an OK movie
zeikluz15 April 2022
Looks like the lowest budget movie i have ever watched from beginning to the end.

Full of bad acting.

But for some reason i still liked it. I like to see justice in movies and some form of justice prevailed this time as well.

What a joke
Top_Dawg_Critic20 June 2021
When you see headliner names like Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts and Louis Mandylor, you'd expect a fairly decent B-grade film with the trio as leads. Wrong. If there was such a thing, this would be a F-grade film. Firstly, Mandylor may have had 30 seconds tops of screen time. Roberts, maybe 2 minutes, if even that, total screen time. Rourke, maybe 3 minutes total, tops - in a miserably long and dragged out 97 minute religious propaganda film. I'm questioning if they even knew they were being cast in a religious propaganda film.

Writer, director, producer, and actor in this film Aziz Tazi wrote a sloppy convoluted plot-issues riddled cringe-worthy story which didn't know what it wanted to focus on; wrongfully accused? High level corruption? Religious conversion? Prison escape? Retribution? It was just a sloppy convoluted mess.

The directing, cinematography and editing was probably the worst I've ever seen. You will shake your head when you see how some of the scenes were filmed. The score and sound were atrocious. The cast were not properly directed, and most looked like it was there first acting gig. Aside from the top trio (non)leads, the (at)best and only convincing performance was by Patrick Kilpatrick, who basically carried the performances on his shoulder.

I've reviewed over 1,000 films on this site, and this has to be in my top 10 worst films of all time. I's a very generous 2/10 from me, all going to the absentee trio stars and Kilpatrick.

A Total Failure
Tweetienator27 September 2021
I tried to watch (because of Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts of course) but had to quit - this is really a bad movie and not one of the bad kind that somehow manages by magick or other unknown forces to strike back as an entertaining and funny queen of cheese. On top, we get one cliche after another served, scenes and character wise. Everyone who watches this from the beginning to the end should get something like the Purple Heart - be warned: the damage to your mind and heart may be of sincere and permanent nature ;)

A Total Embarassment
livingsacrifice-4982419 June 2021
I wouldn't want my name attached to this steaming pile of garbage! It's all over the place, constantly jumping back and forth in time, people are referencing things that we're not shown, but we're expected to know what they're talking about. I honestly felt like the editor accidentally cut out crucial bits of the movie and no one realized it until the movie was released.

The writing isn't the only thing that sucks; the acting is ATROCIOUS! Not even Mickey Rourke nor Erc Robert's, legends of the acting world, could save this stinker! It's a disjointed embarasment and I highly recommend saving your time and money!

Shame on you, Mickey!
dcrocetti21 June 2021
I don't know what the psyche is with Rourke nowadays. There once was a time after his 10 yr hiatus where he mentioned he admitted his mistakes, etc...and that it was a humbling experience.

It appears that he's on the mindset like he was before all of that happened. In his recent comment on marvel, he said its "crap" acting. How could he say that compare to what he's been doing lately. First of all, he's completely type casted because he's so worried about his looks.

As a fan of the younger Rourke, I can't believe what officially crap movies he's doing and the acting esp! Are you kidding me? He's comparing what he's been doing to Marvel???

Yes, Marvel is purely eye candy..but guess what?? The acting in it is 100 times more believable than the quality of acting and films he has been doing.

I keep hoping that there will be a change...I've paid to see Night Walk..I paid to watch Adverse...I think perhaps "Tiger" looks like a quality film, but its MIA.

Anyway, I digress.... Night Walk was a serious waste...All actors in this film was horrid. Perhaps the only entertaining person in this film was Patrick Kilpatrick.

Rourke and Roberts duet is like Milli Vanilli of cinematography. It's just pathetic. And don't mess the religion with that stupid movie. Waste of time.

Bad enough to be good!
JoeHud15 June 2021
If you're into movies like Birdemic and Human Centipede 3, this one's for you. Full of bad acting and coma-inducing religious messages riddled throughout. To be fair, Roberts and Rourke weren't bad, what little you see of them. I wonder what that cost?

Kilpatrick kept me watching, even if his lines seemed adlibbed at times. No direction I suppose.

3/10.

Crime drama w/ deep spiritual meaning
hjzhao29 April 2021
Behind the scandal and action, there's actually a much deeper meaning to this film. The film reflects on the relationship between the Arab and Western World, and how these cultures can be at odds with each other -- through the romance between Sarah, who is Arab, and Frank, who is American. The film shows how and why the West can have a negative attitude toward Arabs and Muslims, but then attempts to shatter the assumptions and stereotypes that contribute to that negative bias. Great storytelling.

The message is precious
greenfield-574-5765987 October 2021
I saw this movie once and i did not like it. But i missed one point, last time: this movie, even if from an acting point of view is not excellent in some parts, has a clear scope that is breaking the prejudices among different cultures by establishing the rule, often forgotten, that bad and good are in all sides, regardless religions or others.

In this case, the love between a muslim / north african woman and a western man is the key to make us understand that the common sense, the natural love and the affection between two individuals belonging to such different cultures, wins over any kind of stereotypes.

Most horrible production I have seen in years.
evangelistatoricelli13 January 2022
I don't know what the hype is with this film but it definitely doesn't deserve the 6.1 rating it got. Being the kind of person who watches a film almost every single day, I have seen my fair share of terrible films but I had never felt the need to leave a review before. This film is the single most horrible production I have ever seen in my life. The story is quite uninteresting, the acting is horrendous, the characters are all extremely shallow and badly written. I wouldn't give it any stars if I could but unfortunately that's not possible.

Just Don't Bother...
andrewrhart1 January 2022
The other reviews are either 10 stars or, like mine, 1 star. If you are warmed by the religious sentiment I guess you'll love this film. If you love good films.... just don't watch it. Truly awful.

ATROCIOUS
huttunenjesse24 December 2021
From the get go you could already tell that this film is going to be a croc of S&@* my friend picked it and insisted we watch it and I had to agree, I thought well Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts might save it, well they were both bad in this one AND only appeared like 3min tops each in this. An absolute DISGRACE.

No clear storyline in plot in the film, all action/drama movie cliches mashed up all together spiced with HORRIBLE ACTING.

That equals a hot steaming pile of p**p, that actually amazed me by how bad a movie can actually be, please dont believe the 10/10 reviews.

A powerful film breaking stereotypes about the Arab and Muslim cuture
maryatazi25 April 2021
I saw the interview that Mickey Rourke did on GMB a few years ago and always wanted to watch this movie. I was glad I got access to an early screening.

Night Walk is not just an action thriller. It breaks stereotypes about the Arab and Muslim community. You see a young woman from the Arab world trying to keep her identity while living in America. A Muslim convert minding his business, corrupt cops abusing others, fundamentalist gang leaders... There's not just one depiction. It's diverse and it's real.

Watch it and learn about this part of the world quite often misrepresented in Hollywood.

Justice
kosmasp30 December 2021
Being right, does not always mean you are being treated that way. Or that others will accept that you are right. Not in the justice system, not when it comes to police or prison system. But knowing yourself that you did nothing wrong ... well it may help. With your own inner peace, with your connection to whatever and whomever you believe in.

Now in this case, we have to find out what happened and what lead to our main character to be imprisoned. Quite the cast this has assembled. And while the ending may be a bit overdramatic and the movie is a bit convoluted - it still sort of works if you let it. It also may show a side to certain religions you may not have seen that way. Yes there still are some cliches, but that doesn't mean there are also other things that are more subtle and detail orientated.

Still the ending bugs me quite a bit ... maybe you have a different view - or think this is overrated anyway.

Wonderful
abdoutazi-7446127 April 2021
Night Walk is a movie that I highly recommend. The story is very fascinating and the director nicely handled the passages from love scenes to more vigorous ones, dealing with corruption and cultural and religious conflicts in the prison environment.

The actors are top and we see some wonderful scenes between young actors and the old cavalry of Hollywood.

Great Movie
citylightslimos17 June 2021
I will definitely recommend to everyone to watch it. Director Aziz done fantastic job with this film. Broke down the barriers between two different cultures, a love relationship between Arabic Muslim women and an American. It was never done in a movie before in the west. It was different than what we usually see portrait in cinema about Muslims, and that what makes it unique. Also the film deals with religion conflicts in prison, and corruption. Great cast. Awesome story.

Awesome Action Movie
hatsmo-117 June 2021
Love Love Night Walk. It is a fun action movie that keeps you stuck to your seat waiting for the next scene and mesmerizing your imagination to figure out what's coming next. The young director Mr. Aziz Tazi has done an amazing job with his first blockbuster movie and I am pretty sure he will be a household name by the end of this decade. Mickey Rourke has outdone himself and it was great to see him embodying this role with perfection. In a year where we were watching many movies and series in our homes during the pandemic and thought we had seen it all, it was refreshing to see an awesome action movie and Hope everyone will be able to see it in Their neighborhood theaters. This movie will be a worldwide sensation without a doubt this year. Kuddos to everyone involved in this project.
