Project Eugenics: Good ideas, bad execution
Platypuschow8 September 2017
At the time of writing this movie has only been seen by 11 IMDb members so considering it's now a two year old film that raises eyebrows.

Within moments I found myself oddly drawn in, this film had some ideas and I was thoroughly entertained.

The movie bounces around telling several stories then gradually connects them. Sadly some parts are a lot stronger than others and very few end well.

It's been a while since I've seen a movie quite so on the pulse, it's social commentary is fantastic and it embraces the "Left & right" politics perfectly.

Sadly when it comes to the zombies it fails badly, in that there really isn't much in that regard and when it happens its poorly done and in some places painfully thought out.

At its core Project Eugenics has some great ideas but the movie is so spotty that it fails to deliver on them.

High potential squandered, and for a while I was thinking this was going to be the next best zombie movie I'd seen since Wyrmwood (2014). Never mind *Sadface*

The Good:

Some very good writing

Excellent social commentary

The Bad:

Gun effects are laughable

To be continued ending! Really?

Things I Learnt From This Movie:

When zombies break into your home they are respectful enough to shut doors behind them

During the zombie apocalypse it makes sense to leave your door unlocked

When concerned about limited ammo it should be used to scare off humans seeking aid but not to kill zombies

When investigating whether a zombie has gotten into your house give your only gun away before checking it out

Zombies randomly get glowing red eyes

For Independent, low budget Film, I liked it...

Warning: Spoilers
STORYLINE. A little muddled but it does come together.

PLOTTING, The film does jump around with multiple subplots and they are not well tided together but you do understand it.

ACTING. Mostly amateur but some of it is still surprisingly good. Certainly better than many low budget movies.

EFFECTS. Poor overall. There really aren't that many but all are lower quality esp the green gas floating everywhere.

FILMING/LIGHTING. The lighting was generally poor throughout. Very dark and grey. The night scenes were almost completely lost. Hard to tell if the film was recorded so dreary to reflect the situation or if it was by error.

DIALOGUE. Some were poor but there were other parts that I found convincing such as some of the activation of Plan B. The whole section with the guy uploading the video and giving a live speech was good. Felt actual tension in that scene.

ZOMBIES. I didn't really think of it as a zombie movie. More of a corrupt corporation and their supporting media and police minions. More like THEY LIVE than a zombie movie. There was one scene where one guy's girlfriend is turned in a car and she makes a fist and then just strikes him hard and we see blood splattered over the driver's window. That made me want to see a new type of zombie. One in which they are physically very strong with maybe some human retention. We don't see that version often. Although there was that zombie parcour movie.

Hard to complain too much about a free film on You Tube and I wish there was a second part to answer some questions. Worth a quick look even if you have to fast forward through a few scenes esp the night scenes when you can't see anything anyway.
