- Ryan and Mike concentrate on a new threat; Max rejoins the task force.
- It's now seven days until Joe Carroll's execution and Ryan once again visits him at the Virginia State Penitentiary hoping to learn the identity of Strauss' favorite student. Joe tells him that Strauss kept his students isolated so as to keep them dependent on him so, for the most part, the serial killers don't know one another. Two US marshals are killed however when Theo rescues Duncan Banks. Theo wants Banks to help him tie up a few loose ends. The FBI manages to trace the fake passports they found on Strauss and a suspended government employee, Luis, but Theo and Duncan are looking to get to him before they do. Max has been cleared to return to duty but Nick Donovan, who is now in charge, doesn't realize she hasn't fully recovered and sends her out into the field.—garykmcd
- The episode opens with our Mystery Hacker hacking into a US Marshall vehicle carrying Duncan Banks. He disables the car, kills the agents and tells Banks "we have work to do."
Hardy asks Carroll who Strauss' best student might have been. Carroll says only that Strauss kept his students isolated.
The consensus at the crime scene is that Strauss' best student freed Banks for a specific mission.
The Mystery Hacker makes it clear to Banks that they aren't buddies and he'll keep him alive only so long as he's helpful. The passports he made for Strauss have left our Mystery Hacker potentially vulnerable and he needs to tie up the loose end.
Pending Gina's disciplinary hearing, Donovan is placed in charge of the team. Quickly things become contentious with Hardy.
Having been cleared for duty, Max trying to work herself back into shape. Hardy is urging patience.
Weston tracks the fake passports to a government employee named Luis.
Cut to Luis leaving his regular poker game just moments before the Mystery Hacker and Banks arrive. The Mystery Hacker demands information and cuts of the hand of a guy who doesn't give him a straight answer.
We see that the poker game was in Luis' building. Ryan & Co. arrive to find all of the men have been killed.
Max helps discover that the hacker accessed the FBI via a vendor called Manitek Securities. She asks Donovan to work the lead with Sloan.
Banks and the Mystery Hacker spot Luis. The Mystery Hackers orders Banks to have Luis take him to his printing press and destroy all of his files.
We see that the Mystery Hacker is an employee at Manitek.
Banks spots Luis go into his girlfriend's house.
The man who oversees the FBI firewall for Manitek, Peter Collins, thinks there's no way one hacker did everything. Max quickly puts him in his place. The Mystery Hacker ducks into Collins' office and transfers files onto an external hard drive.
Luis goes downstairs to investigate a noise. When he comes back up his girlfriend is dead. Banks sneaks up from behind him and knocks him unconscious.
Once against Hardy and his men are late, arriving at Luis' girlfriend's place minutes after Banks did his business. When only the girlfriend is dead, Hardy realizes they are keeping Luis alive until the passport evidence is destroyed.
Sloan uncovers information that seems to tie Collins to some of the hacking. He is placed under arrest and the office is cleared out as a crime scene.
Banks brings Luis to his passport-forging warehouse. He beat him until he gives up the location of the back-ups.
Max tells Hardy about Collins. We see that the Mystery Hacker listening in on the conversation. Collins' male lover comes to Max and confesses that he was with him on the day he was supposed to have been engaged in wrongdoing. This information seems to clear Collins.
Banks burns all of Luis' back-up information. Just before he kills Luis the Mystery Hacker calls with one more job.
Hardy's team finally locates the location of Luis' forging warehouse.
Collins' boyfriend goes through the system and shows Max that two weeks earlier somebody cloned Collins' system and placed it on an external drive. While the two of them work the network goes down. The boyfriend goes to check it out and is promptly stabbed in the heart by the Mystery Hacker. Max follows him down there. When she spots the body she calls for back up. The Mystery Hacker follows her upstairs. He is moments from killing her when the back up arrives.
Hardy's team bursts into the warehouse in time to save Luis' life. Banks shoots Hardy in the chest with a shotgun, but hits only vest. Hardy pops up and kills Banks. They see that Luis was being forced to make one final passport before being killed. It is for the head of Manitek, Tucker.
Cut to Tucker coming home to find the Mystery Hacker waiting for him with a gun.
Given both the passport and the fact Tucker is now missing, Donovan thinks Tucker must be the hacker. Hardy doesn't buy it, but Donovan orders him to find Tucker as fast as he can.
We see the Mystery Hacker return home to his family.
The episode ends with Hardy having a dream in which he and Carroll play pool and have drinks.
