props to the writers

TV is a different world than it was.

Now it is not only common for the producers of a successful series to shake things up a bit, it is expected.

I confess I had some problem with the whole "replace-Watson-with-another-protogee" thing but if the writers had to go through that to achieve this pitch-perfect episode, OK, it was worth the wait.

This script could be taught in film school. Perfect. Smooth. Hooks the viewer and drags you along. No lags or lulls.

"Cop killer" has been done to death but this is new and refreshing and oddly exhilarating.

Props all around.

Love this series but it is not perfect

Warning: Spoilers
At first glance, this is a dramatic manhunt but how the bad guys robbed the police armory is a little strange. Both bad guys are wearing masks and they didn't show a shootout at the armory so could the bad guys have just subdued the cops/employees in the armory? Buros was never shown as a madman so why kill everyone in the armory? The first two murders were designed to make the armory vulnerable but why would he want more police pressure - not for robbing the armory - but for killing more cops? I just don't buy that Buros didn't care about that, after all, he wasn't leaving the city immediately after the robbery. Also, the NYPD likely would involve the ATF and maybe the FBI. I would not want that much pressure if I was trying to lay low in the city where I had killed 4+ cops. I hate that I notice things like this in a series that I love. I view myself as a deductionist, just like Sherlock's character. I solved my Black Lab's mysterious problem years ago. My local veterinarian's office misdiagnosed him twice so I figured it out. He had Sarcoptic mites, which are too small to be seen under a microscope. They attack skin (everyone in the home) and with dogs it causes mange. That's also when I learned about Revolution, a treatment for fleas, ticks and mites. I demanded my vet prescribe it and it worked immediately. Since then, I keep my pets away from stray and wild animals.

A cop killer story with an interesting twist
pat428019 December 2014
Although it was just a subplot, I really liked how the situation with BrainAttic — the site created by a fellow AA member using comments Sherlock made there (all brilliant, of course)— was handled. Sherlock and AA, who woulda thunk it. BTW, as somewhat of a Holmesian, I recognized some of these comments as quotes from the original Sherlock Holmes stories, especially the famous, "You see, but you do not observe." Well, I "observed" a nice episode tonight, good plot, well directed. Overall, the show is a good addition to the Sherlock adaptations, different from any of the others. Was skeptical at first when I heard of a female Watson, thought it might be just a gimmick, but, wow, Lucy Liu does a hell of a job, and it now seems perfectly natural. Don't quite get the Kitty character though.

Best Episode Of This Season So Far
Matt-Nguyen19 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
While I do agree that this season started off a bit weak and rough, this episode was quite interesting. The concept of a dirty cop was nice as well as Sherlock's character development. His scene with the Brainattic owner was great. He is truly a quotable character. Although some hate has been placed upon the two ladies, they did not interfere too much this time.

Overall, the plot and atmosphere reminds me of Blue Bloods. When Bell arrested Buros, there was a feeling of satisfaction and justice shared by the characters as well as the audience. This demonstrates the closely connected police community.

The first episode of season 3 that didn't totally suck!
koohii26 April 2022
While the ending comes across as a bit of an appeal for a fascist police force/gang, this is the first episode of the season that wasn't utterly terrible. Let's face it--if any of the 7 episodes that came before was someone's first episode of the show, it would also likely be their last.

The story was interesting, the side story was interesting, and Kitty (The Scrappy Doo of the show) was kept from ruining it. This is a character that needs to just so.

Didn't age well I guess

No offense to all the brilliant actors and actresses, or even the writers. I know this was probably supposed to invoke sadness and empathy for the police officers losing their friends, and sympathy for the fallen police officers on duty, make me tear up with the comradery police feels among them, to feel complete as I watch justice finds the "bad guys" etc.. But all I feel is disgust as I listen Bell explaining how he intentionally put the handcuffs too tight and how they will make him suffer, as I watch an army of police glaring at the criminal promising pain and revenge. The story tells me 'they value human life', but we know better, so the intensity of the hypocracy makes me sick. To my eyes, they look like a gang at that scene. A legal-on-the-paper-criminal organisation, armed to the teeth with military grade weapons, and with laws always siding with them, and with entitlement, and with the knowledge their fellow gang members will avenge them and stick with them even if they screw up so majorly that they take lifes they pretend to care about... Overall, might be a good episode on a better world, I don't know. I hated it.
