It all went wrong...
paulo-algarve27 January 2017
I read the reviews before watching the movie so I knew it was gonna be bad, but because Miesha Tate was on it I had to watch it. I'm a big Miesha Tate fan and a huge MMA fan. It also stars Cris Cyborg and Holly Holm (I think, didn't see much of her in the movie...) so I watched it.

But it all went wrong. Nothing worked. I'll not go into every detail saying this was bad because and that didn't work because here, and strangely, the correct and polity thing is to say that it all failed.

The viewer struggles to watch the movie, the first half of the movie pushes the inner will of power of the viewer to its limits not to do the logical thing which is just stop watching that thing that is on the screen. It's so bad and illogical and so badly made and so totally nonsense that you almost match Miesha's will of power when the grabbed Holly Holm on that rear neck choke when she won the UFC title, holding on to it and not letting go no matter what. Yes, the viewer really must hold on to his will to watch this entire 'movie', he has to be like a pit bull on a bone. ;)

And the second half of it doesn't get better. At all.

People can say it's a low budget movie, but the budget was 27 million US dollars. That's not a low budget and could never be an excuse for this to be as badly made as it is and as bad as it is. Have you ever watched Elite Squad (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0861739/)? It was made with 4 million US dollars! Seven times less than that!!!

I'll be honest, everyone involved in this thing (it's very hard to call it a movie) should not be a thousand miles near the movie business again, ever again. As for the actors, I know the script and the directing were, how should I say this politely, zero on the scale from 1 to 10, but still, the actors involved must work on their acting skills a lot.

So I gave it a 4 out of 10. I was very generous, I overrated it because Miesha Tate is on it.

Make sure everyone is safe

Warning: Spoilers
This film takes place in the alternate universe of Camden, New Jersey where the guys are all buddies and get along and women constantly have beefs and fight each other...because they steal a purse? (Seriously that is what the first fight was about.) People pay to see women fight and there is a group called "the knock around girls" who all do fights for small money, but all want two thousand dollars so they can leave town and rent an apartment instead of living rent free in Gino's basement.

The real money isn't made in these illegal street fights, but the other one no one knows about in "Fight Valley" whose first rule is don't talk about Fight Valley. Tori (Chelsea Durkalec) finds out about Fight Valley (something she didn't know about after fighting for how long?) and ends up dead. Her soft twinkie sister (Susie Celek) wants to know who did this and gets in shape for a fight in about half a music montage.

The plot had a lot of holes in it. I am not sure where there is a "valley" in Camden or how the women had more testosterone than men. I guess if you like watching women pummel each other with a "Lifetime" drama, this is it.

Guide: F-word. F/F sex. Nudity.

Trashy, but lacking form

Warning: Spoilers
Fight Valley is about a young woman being found dead after getting involved in an underground fighting ring. Her sister, windsor, begins training under a respected ex-fighter as she searches for the killer.

2016's Fight Valley pulls off a convincing depiction of female fight culture by having active female UFC fighters playing off their personas rather than being made to play actor. Mugging, grimacing are the name of the game as it feels like every exchange of dialogue is going to end up in a massive ruck. So it's a ton of fun.

It's loud, it's aggressive, it's operatic, it's very Italian feeling. Which i like. I'll try to be balanced with my critique, but I do warn you, it didn't take long for this film to win me over. So I said that the UFC fighters do not play actor and instead play themselves. I guess a more measured way of describing this would be to say that the majority of the cast play it way OTT and therefore make it hard for you to ignore them.

What also helps Fight Valley is it's New Jersey regional feel, it's colourful locations and background artists, tattooed up like they just walked off the set of fury road. The atmosphere achieved is what gives this film the gravitas which it's cast do not provide.

How the hell this film got a $27,000,000 is beyond me, but upon learning of this absurd amount of money, I've become less forgiving of the film's rough edges such as it's poor sound mix and very bizarre cinematography. The moment I saw two directors of photography accredited, I knew I was in for a weird looking film. Fake cinema verite would be the most fitting umbrella to put it under as most interiors adhere to three point lighting, yet the camerawork for the most part is shaky and sloppily framed. When you think about it, it's a fitting look for MMA, a combination of glam and grit.

Fight Valley is probably the only 'Foxy Boxing' movie you will need to see. It has everything, fists, grapples, dixie jeans, lesbianism, thrash metal, New Jersey, geographically confusing montages and a lotta shouting. For a compelling story and good acting though, I'd look elsewhere.

Awful!
ralphmaessen23 July 2016
Plain simple it is rubbish! Awful acting, awful story (what story?) but awful FIGHT SCENES. Common people they're UFC fighters and it was just so bad i had to laugh. waste of time to watch! Big Miesha Tate fan as a person and a UFC fighter and her looks are the only positive i can say about this movie. I've seen better movies on YouTube so go figure. It makes me wonder how someone is able to make such a thing? I mean, somebody actually put effort in this movie thing. And this is the best you can do? Not blaming the actors, cos most of them aren't actors but UFC fighters. So i understand they want to participate in a movie and they think ow that's fun to do and try. but from the director to anyone creatively involved, please go find another job cos your not made for the movie industry.

Please skip this movie and spend you time on anything but watching this.

This is barely watchable!
dallenofficial17 September 2016
Let me first say, the only reason I wanted to watch this movie is because I'm a fan of WMMA as well as Miesha Tate and Holly Holm; so naturally I wanted to see how both would do in their feature film debut's. The verdict? They are better fighters than they are actors and that's clearly evident in this film.

To give my review some cred; I graduated from film school, have written numerous feature scripts, directed numerous shorts and short films and have taken acting lessons so I know how to make a film from script to screen (production through post).

That being said, this film is definitely high on the list of poorly made films.

Acting - nearly all the performances are stilted, stiff and lifeless. At times you can tell the actor is just waiting for their scene partner to finish their lines so they can say theirs; versus "being in the moment" and actually listening to what their scene partner is saying and evoking a real reaction. Additionally a lot of the performances are dramatic for the sake of being dramatic with no apparent motivation (called over acting). Everything must be motivated.

Dialogue - seems very contrived and often the dialogue is pointless and irrelevant. There's also too much of it. Film as a medium is primarily visual; i.e. you can still convey a message without speaking a word. Watch Don Cheadle, he's one of the best at doing that. Sometimes in a scene you just need to let it breathe and allow the viewer to consume what is happening rather than force feeding them dialogue non stop.

Writing - like the acting the dialogue is very stilted and contrived. I lost count on the numerous plot holes and setups without any payoff (screenwriting 101). One major plot hole is that none of the girls who "have to fight to survive" have any plan to better themselves, no plan to get out of there and make their life better. By doing that, I as a viewer couldn't care less about the characters because they don't care about themselves. The whole purpose of characters in a film is for the viewer to ride along with the characters along their journey. None of the characters have a transformational change in the film (even the main character which is highly unusual). Where's the character arcs? One major plot hole is the training of Windsor to eventually fight whoever killed her sister; but when the scene comes she doesn't fight her, Jabs fights her. Why build that up and not pay it off? As a viewer I feel let down. I was led to believe that Windsor would fight Church. Another example of setup with no pay off is Holly Holm's character. Animosity is created between her character and Miesha Tate's but then nothing comes of it. We never see her again after their confrontation in the bar. Why initiate that if you're not going to follow it through especially with a high profile fighter/star like Holly Holm.

Directing - There seems to be scenes of drama and emotion and/or hostility for no apparent reason. One minute a character is mad at another then all of a sudden they are completely calm, seems very unnatural. There's also issues with the blocking of the actors and framing issues (rule of thirds).

Technical - Bad and fake fight choreography. The actors take larger than life swings which look totally fake. Watch 'Bourne Identity' to see fight choreography done correctly. The audio mix in this is very poor; effects come in hot one minute, then too low the next minute (static shot of house, crickets are nearly distorting). Music is too low, dialogue cuts off from one scene to the next, there are scenes with dialogue out of sync, the volume goes up and down, etc.

According to the IMDb page the budget on this was $27,000,000 which has to be a typo because I find that extremely hard to believe based on the poor production quality. However their are some great aerial and crane shots in this so possibly that's where the majority of the budget was spent.

The reason I'm so critical is not to be demeaning or rude, or judgmental, but rather provide food for thought to those who desire to make films and encourage them to put out their best work. Don't put out crap, put out the best thing you can in anything you do. No one likes to see crap and this is pretty close to that.

An hour and a half of your life you will never get back.
unclecrip22 July 2016
First off Holly Holm is prominently featured on the cover of the movie yet is in it for all of 10 seconds. Now that I've got that out of the way on to the movie. This will be short and sweet. The acting, editing, sound, and anything else you can think of that's involved in making a movie is all horrible. The acting though takes the prize as all "actors" involved were so ridiculously bad that I started to think it was a joke, but my friends, unfortunately the only joke was that I watched the whole movie. The "actors" didn't seem to know when they were supposed to say their lines and most times their mannerisms didn't match what they were saying or supposed to be doing. The only reason I watched the entire movie is that I was not watching it alone because if I were alone I would have split after about 20 minutes if that. As bad as the editing was I feel that the fact that the director and actors did such a bad job hindered anything an editor could do with the slop in the can. As far as this movie having a 6.7 rating after only about 10 or so ratings, well I think that can be chalked up to paid for reviews. Either that or the handful of reviews were done by friends and/or family of the film maker . Truly awful!!!

An actual MMA beating is preferable to this steaming excrement
rpwfoster20 October 2016
If it were a student film, they'd barely pass, despite their $27,000,000 budget! (Could've fed 14k African villages for a decade - yes, I did the math).

Plot summary: remember that episode of friends, where Monica's millionaire boyfriend Jon Favrau wanted to suddenly become the UFC champion? That's the plot here, except with an all female cast in the ghetto.

The script is as stale as Adam Sandler's rotten tomatoes average. The acting as stiff as the late Roger Ebert's jaw.

Everything is awful. The sound, the cameras used, the editing, the sets, the make up, etc...

The single redeeming feature this film has is it's numerous lingering shots of Miesha Tate's ass.

Imagine Brock Lesnar reciting Shakespeare; same thing.

I can't believe this movie had a $27.000.000 budget
DogFilmCritic23 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Since I saw the trailer I knew this was going to bomb but I didn't had any idea of how bad it was, this movie can become The Room of fighting movies as it was as bad as it could yet unintentionally laughable.

The acting in this movie is a joke non of this girls ever set foot in a real ghetto and There acting was as stereotypical as you can imagine I can imagine the research for the roles were watching a lot of movies with Ice T on them. Windsor the protagonist says she is 30 but her mom looks 7 years younger than her, the knock around girls ( a crew of twenty something that look more like skaters that street fighters) are a bunch of brats pushing their luck every time there is a fight as all the fights are so choreograph non even the pros make it look real and they try to convince us they are hardcore ghetto. ( Cyborg, Tate and Holm included) speaking of Holly Holm she is in this movie probably for a few seconds and her character doesn't go anywhere, she has top billing and she is the biggest person in the poster and they do nothing with her their is also the Serrano sisters whom I'm told they are pro boxers but they don't give them nothing to work with and they end up like push overs. The fact this trio are fighters and not actresses is clearly a fact as their dialog is very forced, Rob Hawk probably said " just act as angry and ghetto as possible".

Rob Hawk worked his ass off trying to put this garbage together and you can tell how his experience is practically zero, the pacing is horrible it will jump from one scene to the other from night to day with no continuity and many scenes that were cut roughly , the editing is messed up a lot was cut in the editing room and what was left has a lot of plot holes and you can nip pick almost every scene and the continuity errors are all over, I've scene school protects that looked more decent than this.

In the raw and tough world of Fight Valley there no such thing as logic or cops Tori a skinny girl that we are supposed to believe is a bad ass gets herself killed street fighting and its up to her sister to find out the killer as she is trained by Jabz (Tate) for apparently no reason at all ...to survive as Jabz so wisely placed it, but those montages are wasted as she gets her ass kicked every time, we find out it was Church ( Cyborg) who killed Tori, the last fight is as a minute long and we find out Jabz helped to cover the murder....Oooh no not Jabz, it's a very anti climatic ending were everyone says their sorry and the end, no filling for murder or anything they said they were sorry that's enough to settle everything, as Windsor said she was ready to take back what they took from her sister but she finds comfort by Jabz and Church saying they are sorry and having shed some tiers.

So that's fight Valley an idea that made no sense, Rob Hawk I'm sure there are many career opportunities you can pursue besides filmmaking.

P.S: Rob stop making your friends write positive reviews on your garbage you call a film believe me anyone with common sense knows this is junk.

Fight Valley, overrated or spot on dribble.
Darld9927 August 2017
I agree that this is a poorly made film in almost all its aspects. Frankly, I don't care. I'm tired of everyone reviewing every film as if it were 'Chariots of Fire'. I couldn't stand that 4-star, Oscar winning piece of over-hyped dribble. 'Attack of the Killer Tomatoes', 'Showgirls' or 'Devil Dog, Hound from Hell' received an overrated 1- star. Cheap and shallow has its place and mindless entertainment is exactly what you want at times. Effort was put into this project and you can't take that away.

Forget using sleeping pills, watch this movie instead.
davillain-9210917 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I thought about not wanting to waste my time to write this review, then I thought...it's my duty to warn my fellow movie watchers.

I'm a huge fan of mma and was excited to see three of my favorite mixed martial artists. Miesha Tate, Holly Holm, and the amazing Cris Cyborg all in one film. Watching this film 'Fight Valley' almost made me feel ashamed that I'm a fan of the three. The story (if you wanna call it that) centered around the death of a female street fighter. Her sister comes home to mourn her and to seek revenge on the person(s) who killed her. Miesha a local fighter helps train the sister to become a fighter. Then they do a bootleg 'Rocky' training montage showing the sister in training. Weeks go by and after the training is over Miesha gives the sister the seal of approval telling her she's ready to fight. The sister sets up a money fight to face off with 'Cyborg', the one who (accidentally) killed her sister. Cyborg kicks the sister's butt and what seemed like 30 secs. The film ends with the sister telling Cyborg to say sorry for killing her (dead) sister. Cyborg saids "I do, every night"...the film ends.

That's basically what the film is about and other then a few sloppy street fights and a unbelievable sloppy uncoordinated cage fight featuring Holly Holm. Oh yeah they even threw in a lesbian love scene. And no, none of the aforementioned mma stars do not strip or expose any sort of nudity. The acting itself was appalling and the fight choreography was sloppy, boring and amateurish at best.

I almost fell asleep watching this film and I wasn't even tired?! So forget sleeping pills, watch this movie instead.

Fight Valley Knockaround girls
nikkersz29 July 2016
"No spoilers"

My opinion of the movie "Fight Valley" appears to be different than other reviews written so far. I actually enjoyed a lot of aspects of the movie:

I liked Meisha Tate's role as Jabs, even though she is not an actor she performed very well. I wouldn't mind seeing her in future films. Its refreshing seeing a fighter who has the potential to act.

I liked Cabrina Collesides who played the role of Jamie, She was believable in her character. For instance, some of the girls it felt forced either the way they dressed or came off as a hardass, Cabrina just fell into the role smoothly like it was really her and not a character. She didn't seem to be "acting" for example, Yanni felt forced and far fetched trying to play a ghetto girl with an attitude. It seemed she did more googling of how to live in the hood then actually being in the hood. And Windsor (that's another thing all together, she was simply NOT good).

Gracie, played by Ivy Lashawn Coleman did an amazing job as well. She was very intimidating on screen, always causing trouble and starting beef with the knockaround girls. And she was really pretty.

Duke, played by Erin O'Brien was a pleasure to watch on screen. She brought it! She may be tiny but she's got fight. And all of these girls did a great job, so i disagree with some reviews here saying ALL acting sucked, because no not everyone was a shitfest.

Windsor was a joke to watch, so maybe because she was the lead and had to carry the film, people don't look at the co-stars or supporting cast who played their roles without looking fake. Bottom line, Jabs, Jamie, Gracie and Duke KICKED ASS, and the score in the film really pumped me up when the fight scenes came about. As a whole, I give this movie an 8/10. Its a good movie (could've been better with the casting of certain roles) but all in all go grab some pizza and sit down and relax and watch this movie.

Surprisingly... not bad !!
destroyerwod18 August 2016
So being a Miesha Tate fan, i had to watch this movie. The trailer kinda gave me the vibe of a very cheap indy flick, which it is partly but somehow not bad at all for such thing.

The story is actually interesting, i did get emotionally involved in it, and if you want to see Miesha Tate movie debut, well she does have a real role in this. Holly Holm? Just a cameo, i guess they put her as the focus of the cover box because of her title win, cause really she is just a cameo. Cyborg is not too much in it either, and her acting is not good, i guess this is to expect as English ain't her first language from the start but thankfully since her role is small, it pass fine. Miesha really surprised me, i wouldn't say she put a "great performance" but she wasn't bad at all in her acting part. The other actress goes from decent to not too good, but they are not bad enough to put the movie in danger of looking awful either.

The fights? Well i have read lots of reactions to them and i would say this... They are "passable" if i can say. There not very long, there basics, they do there job OK to advance the plot, but clearly it show the director and fight choreographer are both very inexperienced in filming such things.

Movies like Never Back Down for example had much much better fights despite involving actors who are not really fighters. But as weird as it may sound, i had a feeling the fights where not the primary aspect of this movie, it was the plot and how it unfold, and the emotions involved, which surprisingly i got into.

So ... maybe its because i had very low expectation but i was pleased with my VOD rental... I would say if you treat this movie as an indy low budget film, it does a decent job. Forget about the 27 million budget on IMDb page, whoever put this is bogus... If the budget was 1 million i would be surprised... There is nothing costly in this movie beside maybe Miesha Tates pay check lol.

Lame, predictable, amateur
duvernetphotography18 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A bad episode from a mid day soup would be better. Entirely predictable from the characters to the dialogue and the story line. You've got the smoking hard ass types who swear like drunken sailors. You've got the tough guys from the hood, the disadvantaged, the pampered rich and powerful in different forms. The whole premise is just an excuse to flash some flesh. There are lots of tough guys movies with kick boxers and martial arts guys slaying the bad guys. This is just the female version of a predictable story line. J.C.V. Dame's been there done that so many years ago. It was Charles Bronson before that and the Clint in his silly movies. But the whole thing is so badly acted and badly filmed. This is the worst film I've seen this year. Seriously get a taser, says the movie. At least if it had some real time with butch actress/stunt girls like Zoe Bell who really knows how to kick ass.

(no spoilers) WMMA fans, don't even waste your time.
dollfaceslayer11 September 2017
As a fan myself, I just felt the need to give this title a chance. What I found was beyond disappointing. A cast of AMAZING female fighters with not one good fight scene. Like hiring a crew of stunts and filming them laying on a couch for 90 min. The plot is dull, the acting makes you cringe. A nice movie to stare at our beloved girl warriors in costume, nothing else. 10/10 not worth it.

i love idea of this movie but it doesn't make jack sense
nikola1721 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
*** review contains spoilers*** well it's low budget Version of Fight Club but it's a Lesbian version of film the story doesn't make any sense at all famous UFC fighters like Cris Cyborg, Miesha Tate, Holly Holm all together 3 of them i wish it was movie of 3 of them Cris Cyborg is villain Miesha Tate is lead star the reason why they can't hire Ronda Rousey is because too expensive to hire because this movie is like far too cheap to hire her in this movie because it's low budget B-Class they never have that kinda money for director in his pocket. this movie is so bad direction it has a silly plot twist very stupid like director doesn't know how to write. characters aren't likable at all none of them noting to it. Holly Holm and Cris Cyborg, Mieseha Tate is not the lead role in this movie they are not Mieseha Tate and Cris cyborg are more in movie they act little more in movie director can't choose who is lead role for this movie first of all plot is about group of girls Lesbians you see less guys in movie but hey it's female fighting low cheap budget movie Tori Coro (Chelsea Durkalec), Yanni (Kari J. Kramer) (Erin O'Brien) Duke taken as guys name into girls name and (Cabrina Collesides) Jamie who goes to fight valley AKA fight club that everyone goes around street fighting as in girls version these characters aren't likable trying to act tough all that i like when characters of female is acting tough is into fighting i love when they have interest in fighting it but their personality as characters is not good they aren't likable just bunch of bi**h's group of girls that are just idiots without brains so anyway Tori wants to learn to fight she asks Jabs (Miesha Tate) but she refused not train her bad talent performance ? anyway Tori goes try fight club aka fight valley but then they didn't get her in she has a older sister who has a job and works (Susie Celek) Windsor is older sister Tori wants money is because she is not getting into a lot fights she's living with her father who is drunk she picked to live with her father she lives in town with not many jobs around it's small town they live in. Winsdor refused to give money to Tori i am like ?? OK why doesn't she give her chance give her money to get out of place of town. 2 days later Tori is dead died in fight so now direction of lead goes to Winsdor is going get out their fight for her own revenge type of thing group of girls don't even know how to get answers from people to know who was person fighting with sister.. god i am like these girls are dumb as dumber group of them Winsdor is new to be fighter like her younger sister. so group of girls are telling her to learn how fight she said no then she gets picked at bar with another group of girls i am like jeez this movie plot is so weak the plot and revenge story it's weak very weak. even Ronda Rousey and Gina Carino would say this movie sucks these girls are dumb there's scene where they show holy holms fighting in octagon cage didn't even say word Cris Cyborg comes out

nowhere i am like i didn't see that one coming says thing that's it jeez director can't give the them something to do what a useless script wasted Holly Holms in movie she is only in it for 5 minutes part when she says few words doesn't do noting in bar punch's girl push's someone over she walks out gets her paycheck that's end of Holly Holm. Miesha Tate OK she is pretty but her acting her character is wow useless rubbish acting terrible actress so as Holly Holm. Mieshia character trained lead character Windsor to be fighter like her sister she becomes so useless fighting and training Mieshia is been a pain in the butt as trainer even Rocky Balboa would train Windsor better then her. later on towards at end of film jeez the plot and twist is so stupid it's going to be spoiler alert Miesha Tate trained lead character Windsor like a loser she trained her to fight to lose not to win Windsor becomes useless fighter you have fighting with Cris Cyborg in final showdown witch is useless she can't fight for crap, later on Miesha Tate comes out nowhere goes fights with Cris Cyborg eh noting special fight scene stupid silly twist of movie will give you headaches a lot of it when Cris Cyborg Church that's her name Church killed Tori, Miesha Tate Jabs comes out nowhere sees Tori body Church said make it look like a accident, she knew all about she knew who killed Tori Winsdor trainer was part of murder helped Church help to take Tori Body. she helped her that would make her as villain as well she fights with Church for noting Windsor doesn't do anything like punch her or kill her movie ends i am like jeez this story, plot, the movie is SO confusing i know i should have not taken this seriously i understand it's a b class movie and it does have terrible performance but just because it's b movie doesn't mean i hate it so bad and ugly i loved and liked a lot b-class movies that has a simple plot of movie simple thing in movie without having confusing things in movie. this movie doesn't make a jack sense it's very weak movie very weak. director doesn't know or he didn't plan who is going to be lead role of movie who ever dies becomes a lead role character that's what it is.

If every movie was Oscar-worthy, the industry would be no fun.
amhickey2 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
OK - so after reading some of ya'll's reviews, I just wanted to start by saying this: take a step back, take a breath and laugh it off. Is Fight Valley the best movie you will ever have the privilege of seeing in this lifetime? Absolutely not. But, I think we can all agree that A. it's cool to see some huge UFC stars outside of the ring and B. if you just look at it aesthetically, and remember that this was not a million-dollar Spielberg blockbuster, it's 90-minutes worth of Camden, New Jersey realness! Director Rob Hawk takes audiences on an interesting ride they can enjoy from the comfort of their couches. Miesha Tate, I have to say, was probably the most natural, for never having acted a day in her life. She keeps it cool, keeps it badass and serves up some serious potential to land some future acting gigs if she wants to! Also, I personally really dug the makeup. Even though the fight scenes weren't as nail-bitingly gritty as one would expect from a film featuring primarily fighters, the makeup and special effects were cool to see on the screen! It's a quick 90-minutes. Take it for what it is, sit back and enjoy!!

mad_crack_scientist13 July 2019
The movie is so bad, so bad, SO BAD that you will feel your IQ dropping. Acting = 0/10 Story = 0.5/10 Direction = 0.5/10 Screenplay = 0.5/10 Cinematography = 1.5/10 Fight Choreography = 3/10

Verdict: UNWATCHABLE

I don't think Meisha or Holly or Cyborg are superbad actresses, considering they acted almost as good as Ronda Rousey, but the truth is, they can still try their luck in big blockbusters with more action and less dialogues. Cyborg actually does look menacing in her role. So with proper direction, she should be able to land a role in the next Expendables movie.

I Love Chick Fights
jesspalliser24 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I think Miesha Tate did a fantastic job with her first acting gig. She was natural and played her role just as though she was training with any one of her MMA peers. I think the other reviews left before mine are a little harsh considering this was a low budget movie you get what you pay for so chill folks. Holly Holm was also good for her first go on screen I wish she was in the movie a little more though. The buzz was all about "CupCake" + "The Preacher's Daughter" just saying maybe Rob Hawk shouldn't have edited down the scenes this much I know there was more to see.. And who on Earth would give speaking parts to "Cyborg" LOL come on now that's not her fault either her job was to look muscular and scary not scare us away with her English - I'm not throwing a dig at her I love her just as much as the other Fighters. I really liked the character JAIME one of the actresses (non fighters) Cabrina Collesides she was fantastic very comfortable on camera and funny as hell with her ghetto slang and lesbian humor. Just like Holly I wish we would have heard and seen more from Cabrina. There were a few casting question marks I had like who would believe the girl who played "Windsor" is only 30 the chick who played her Mom in the film looked younger - slight error there again not digging this actress just the person who cast her in this role in my opinion one of the younger girls should have played "Windsor" like for example "JAIME" / Cabrina. I give this film a 7 out of 10 because I wanted to see more fight scenes the music was fantastic and had me pumped up to see some punches thrown I think too much was put on the story line and not enough action. The hype for this film was the WMMA Fighters should have been more with that. The Serrano Sisters should have had bigger roles too. This film had all the right ingredients all of the right players just incorrect roles and not enough Kick Ass... I hope nobody gets offended by my review... I know most of the cast is actually from New Jersey so chill guys you did the best you could with your situation. Oh and out of the dudes in this film I liked "Stakes" Jefferson Sanders who is a trainer in real life maybe should have pursued a little something there in this film as well. Like I said before all the ingredients for an amazing feature were there they just weren't utilized to their best potential... 7/10 for an honest review. My 4 year old daughter gave it a 10/10 because Miesha Tate + Cabrina Collesides are her Idols put them together in a movie and this girl was in Heaven. You had some serious fighters on board for this how do you not even give the boxing sisters a chance to I don't know BOX - LOL

It's got heart, and, dare we say, charm.

Warning: Spoilers
On the mean streets of Camden, New Jersey ("the murder capital of America", as we're informed), there is an undisclosed location where girls go to fight. Naturally enough, it's called Fight Valley. It seems only the shady underground fight promoters and the fighters themselves know where it is. When one of the ladies, who is a bit more untrained than the other, more hardened fighters, enters Fight Valley, trouble follows. Tori Coro (Durkalec) finds Fight Valley...but never leaves. Soon thereafter, her sister Windsor (Celek) endeavors to find out what happened to her.

The problem: Windsor comes from an upper-middle class or possibly rich background, and she doesn't fit in at all with the dwellers of the ghettos of Camden. Despite their socioeconomic differences, Windsor ends up befriending the "Knockaround Girls" - Tori's friends Jabs (Tate), Duke (O'Brien), Yanni (Kramer), and Jamie (Collesides). When it becomes apparent that the evil, Tong Po or Ivan The Russian-style baddie is a frightening woman named Church (Cyborg), Windsor and all the others train their hearts out for a big, final showdown in Fight Valley. Who will emerge - if I may borrow a phrase from Tori Spelling (as I often do) - vicTORIous? You'll find out soon enough...

Yes, Fight Valley is a low-budget Punchfighter with non-professional actors. But it's got heart, and, dare we say, charm. We here at Comeuppance Reviews are incredibly impressed that this film was completed and released to the world. It's on Amazon Prime, DVD, cable, and presumably it will hit other formats such as Blu-Ray at some point in the future. It was clearly a labor of love and we respect that. To all the haters out there who are crying into their Tapout shirts and proclaiming this is "the worst movie ever!!!!!" we say: you try doing what the makers of Fight Valley did. How many movies have you made? Oh, zero? Okay. Come back when you've actually risked something, created something, and released something.

In the meantime, all of us non-haters can brush aside the negativity and see that the Fight Valley cast and crew were trying. That goes a long way with us. Sure, it's not perfect and it has its flaws, but we say that about big-budget Hollywood productions. We try to judge everything on a level playing field. Much like Fight Valley itself. Viewers should expect going in that you're not going to get Master Thespian-level acting, but is that why you're watching Fight Valley to begin with? Just about everyone in the cast speaks with what you might call a 'flat affect', which we found endearing, not irritating.

Compare that to Chokehold (2019), where the female fighters also had flat affects, but were also there to fight, primarily. Not win Oscars, Tonys, and Blockbuster Awards. Anyway, we wouldn't classify Fight Valley as a "Homie Movie", but it's THIS close. There are some strong Homie Movie influences on the production overall. Also, there's a good, old-fashioned training sequence towards the end that we enjoyed. Because it's 2016, the influence of Crossfit and moving tires around seems to have crept into the training montages. Call it a sign of the times.

The plot is your typical Punchfighting plot, and there's plenty of punching to go around. During the credits, in a little box on the side of the screen, we see behind-the-scenes stills that were taken during the production. It was endearing to see that. It's hard to beat the during-the-credits-and-in-a-box sequence of Attrition (2018), but, to be fair, no one could.

Fans of the real UFC fighters involved or anyone who enjoys female fight films will most likely be the target audience for Fight Valley.
