"Mom" Free Therapy and a Dead Lady's Yard Sale (TV Episode 2014) Poster

Anna Faris: Christy Plunkett

Quotes

  • Christy : [in a cemetery]  Okay, Violet... here he is.

Violet : [reads stone]  James Sutcliffe. I thought his name was Butch.

Christy : Butch was his nickname.

Violet : How did he die?

Christy : Car accident. I know this isn't how you wanted to meet, but... this is your dad.

  • Violet : [to her father's tombstone]  Why couldn't you be a cool guy?

Christy : He was cool, Violet. He was so cool, I couldn't believe he wanted to date me.

    Violet : So what happened?

Christy : One night we're at a bar doing tequila shots and he comes up and says 'Kirk Cobain just died'. And I said 'No, Butch, it's Kurt, with a T', and everybody started laughing, no big deal, then they started crying because Kurt Cobain died. And he was so mad, when we got in the car he yelled at me for embarrassing him. And his reaction was so crazy that I thought he was kidding, so I laughed... then he slapped me so hard I could hear my ears ringing. I packed my bags so many times, but he always said he loved me and that it would never happen again... until it did, and after a while, I just started to think that I deserved it.

  • Bonnie : So who is James Sutcliffe?

Christy : I don't know... but I thought it'd be better for Violet to think Butch was dead than for her to try tracking down that monster.

Bonnie : Understood... I'm sorry I said you're a bad liar, you are a *great* liar.

Christy : Thank you, I learn from the best.

Bonnie : [somberly]  I'm also sorry I wasn't there for you.

    Christy : Thanks.

  • Violet : I told Luke that I made out with another guy and he broke up with me.

Christy : I'm so sorry, honey.

Violet : Well, I haven't been the best girlfriend lately... or daughter for that matter, though it really goes without saying.

Christy : No, no, say it.

  • Violet : It never occurred to me that it was his fault. When you look at me... am I just a constant reminder of that horrible time?

Christy : Just the opposite. I probably wouldn't be here without you.

Violet : What do you mean?

Christy : When I found out I was pregnant, I realized it wasn't just about me anymore. That gave me the courage to leave... you saved my life.

  • Violet : [in therapy]  I bet I'd be much happier if *you* had been the one that walked out and I got to stay with Dad.

Bonnie : [laughs bitterly]  Oh you would lose that bet.

    Christy : Mom,

Bonnie : No, she's 18, she can hear this.

    [to Violet]

Bonnie : Your father beat the *crap* out of my daughter all the time, he sent her to the ER *twice*. I *seriously* doubt you would've been happier with him.

[silence, Christy gets up and leaves the room]

  • Luke : [the women tell him Violet's sick]  Is there anything I can do? Should I get her some soup?

Bonnie : If you really want to help, you can go to the store, get half a dozen cans of air freshener and a couple chocolate bars.

    Christy : Chocolate bars?

Bonnie : Yeah, dead people tweak my sweet tooth.

  • Bonnie : [comes in the door]  Oh God, I need a drink.

    Christy : What happened?

Bonnie : You know that smell coming from Mrs. Valinsky's apartment everybody's been complaining about? It's Mrs. Valinsky.

    Christy : Oh my God.

Bonnie : Yeah, she must've been there a couple days. She looked like a bean bag chair in a night gown.

  • Christy : There's free therapy?

    Bonnie : Yeah.

Christy : Why aren't you going?

  • Bonnie : [looks out window]  Ooh, makeout session. Oh yeah, you go girl, eat that face. Oh my God.

    Christy : What is it?

    Bonnie : It's your daughter.

Christy : It's okay, I saved all her old pregnancy clothes.

Bonnie : That's not her boyfriend.

    Christy : What?

  • Violet : How long were you with him?

    Bonnie : Too long.

Christy : It's not like I could run home to you.

Bonnie : Hey, back then I was in a prison of my own... prison.

  • Christy : [pats tombstone]  I'm sorry to drag you into this, James Sutcliffe, I'm sure you were a great man.

    Bonnie : She's watching.

Christy : [spits on tombstone and kicks at it]  I hope you rot in hell you bastard!

    [woman comes up with flowers]

Megan : Why are you spitting on my husband's grave?

Christy : Ohhh... I think you know.
