Bringing 'Dolls' To Life
Toys of Terror: The Making of 'Dolls' (2014)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Another extremely entertaining documentary from Shout Factory! that can be found on their Blu-ray of DOLLS. The documentary clocks in at 38-minutes and features interviews with Charles Band, Stuart Gordon, Brian Yunza, Gabe Bartolos, Carolyn Purdy-Gordon, Ian Patrick Williams and others. Fans of DOLLS are certainly going to have a good time with this documentary because it gives you a very clear idea of what was going on during the entire production time. Gordon discusses a lot of the pre-production while Band talks about the financial side of things and what impact RE-ANIMATOR had on this film. From here we learn about the shooting of the film with the special effects getting a lot of attention. There's also a lot of discussion about the tone of the film and everyone discusses some of the graphic and gory content that they ended up not using.
Fans of DOLLS are certainly going to want to watch this since you get to see those behind-the-scenes who actually made the film. It's clear that everyone looks back quite fondly of the picture and getting to hear the various directions that the film almost went into was also very fascinating.
