One of our own, the incorrigibly wicked Izzy Lee, is back with another macabrely mirthsome short film - A Favor - which just screened at no less a "dark heart of cinema" than FrightFest. Though I have only seen Lee's most recent other short, Postpartum, which impregnated my mind for days, her latest demonstrates a rapidly maturing prowess behind the camera. Coming in at 10 minutes, A Favor is a serious piece of film-making, polished on every level, and to my mind heralds Lee's transition from aspiring auteur to bona fide film-maker. A Favor is also hilarious throughout, though progressively darker, and pitch-black by the crescendo. Laughs flow freely thanks to a great performance by Shaun Callaghan as Jackson, a somewhat schluby hipster who gets called on...

The 19th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival concludes tonight with sold out repeat screenings of festival favorites Cop Car, Attack on Titan and Deathgasm. There are also screenings of Assassination Classroom and a repeat screening of A Christmas Horror Story. Team Twitch grew a bit more this year with four of us at ground zero during the Frontières Industry weekend. Our own Izzy Lee had her own short film Postpartum in the fest along with her performance in Tales From Beyond the Pale. We will have our own wrap up article and more reviews in the next couple days. The 17th annual Boston Underground Film Festival is set to explode all over the Brattle Theater in Harvard Square on March 25-29.
Opening Night: The fun kicks off on the 25th at 7:30 p.m. with the exciting new flick from the always amazing Astron-6 collective, The Editor, an homage to the brutal Giallo movies of the ’70s and ’80s directed by Adam Brooks and Matthew Kennedy. This will be followed by the restored version of the legendary cult classic Gone With the Pope by the notorious Duke Mitchell.
Closing Night: Goodnight Mommy the debut feature film by Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz, will screen at 8:30 p.m. on the 29th and is a nightmarish vision of familial dread when twin brothers believe their cosmetically altered mother is literally not the woman she used to be.

For those arching an eyebrow at the name, yes. Kasey Lansdale is indeed the daughter of acclaimed author Joe R Lansdale and she takes a starring in role in Postpartum - the fourth short film directed by Izzy Lee in the past two years.And if you're arching a brow at that name, well that may be because Lee is better known around these parts as regular contributor to Twitch Michele Galgana.Her latest directing effort now wrapped up and primed to premiere as part of the Nacogdoches Film Festival the first teaser has arrived online.
